That doesn't look AoE2 related
The trebuchet and castle on the left is directly pulled from the AoE2 cover.
I feel like the only one who preferred the first aoe more.
You know, I never really got why Microsoft more or less got out of the game business. Maybe they got a quiet nudge that they shouldn't from the US or the EU or something. Either way, Microsoft Game Studios made a lot of really progressive games, most of which are pretty unmatched. And while AoE2 isn't so successful that it's still being played in tournaments, it's one of those games that people still talk about, along with Age of Mythology, the first Halo, etc.
They also made that combination space dogfighter/RTS called Ascension or Alliance or something like that. You had a commander who gave out orders, and players who acted as the soldiers and gatherers. It was pretty fun, and people still play it today. So very ahead of its time. I wish it would get a proper reboot, there's a big market for out-of-the-box ideas like that these days.

Also, I really hope the 'HD' graphics just means making the textures have proper and more modern depth/transparency. I installed AoE2 on my Vista SP1 machine, and while it works, the audio is slightly jagged, the game gets laggy past 75 pop cap easily, the water has a load of bright purple pixels, and the grass is a little fucked up.
But otherwise it's exactly how I remember.
Steam registry says 4-pack will be available for pre-order. ;)
The Spanish are the only overpowered empire in the game. Sorry.
Actually it's Turks. Getting more gold, going to next age faster and of course bonuses with gunpowder units.
I remember spending a lot of time with this game. I was not even remotely playing it as an actual strategy game whatsoever, and mostly shot the shit with it (similar to Galactic Battlegrounds, and to Warcraft III)
My actual strategy usually always ended up consisting of: focusing on making a completely unbreakable system of defense, making a giant unbreakable army, and then destroying everything with the said unbreakable army.
In the first one I always played that race with cheap villagers. Then I'd take over the map bit by bit through towers and strategically placed walls. Ended up looking like a massive labyrinth by the end if I didn't run out of sources of stone.
I feel like the only one who preferred the first aoe more.
I like the first one quite a lot (it was my first RTS ever in fact) but AoE II is generally an improvement over the first.
I'll be buying, with bells on.
Turns out that i kinda suck at AOE2, The AI can be brutal for me but at the same time, i go into old habits of turning the game into imperial age simcity.
I could only survive against the hardest AI by playing Team Islands only, so I can place towers around the island and ever prevent them from landing. It was the only way I could win.
Woo! Just yesterday we played this in LAN with 10 friends.
[editline]6th March 2013[/editline]
It was awesome
I'd have rather not known about this, the wait is killing me.
Does anyone know typically how long these things take to show?
ITS HAPPENING
[editline]6th March 2013[/editline]
Does this mean i will sit on my PC for the entire night trying to build 10 walls around my small village.

Post-Castle age Mongols are the beast

I'd just storm over and dump palisades around their town center. Didn't stop them cheating resources but stopped them making villagers.

It is until you realise they keep sending armies at you after you destroyed their economy and you're sitting there going "How are you able to do this??"
It's good for pissing people off on multiplayer though if you're quick though.I used to put pallisades around my tc and leave a 1 wall gap so I could town bell and block it to protect it from rushes. Granted I paid the price in wood having to build mills to keep my farms at the same efficiency but it was worth the trade-off to me.
No love for Age of Empires I ? :(
No love for Age of Empires I ? :(
Age of empires I was amazing, I remember on Gamespy the ego's people had if they were 1337 NS who could pop 200 in a few minutes.
Ha.

I haven't played AoE as much, but from what I've seen there really isn't anything in the game to be desired that AoE2 didn't do better.
AoE 1 is just for the nostalgia
AoE 2 is improved and better in every way.
AoE 3 is?
AoE 3 is?
AoE 3 is to the AOE series, what Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is to the Command & Conquer series...
Fun ... but kinda not really related anymore...
AoE 3 is?
Not as good

That too
It was like, good on it's own. But it's bad compared to the previous titles.

I always compare AoE3 to Doom 3. A good game in its own right but it just doesn't feel like it lives up to its name.
But hey guys.
Any EU fellas willing to play with me?
Please?
You can touch me if you want to...
We could play Team Islands with 500 population cap as Huns because fuck houses.

Mongols are where it's at. Wait till I come land on your Island and circlejerk your entire attack force with my Mangudais.

Good luck after I get my Missionaries and I just convert all of them and then suddenly donkey away.
I always play briton, max out archer tech stuff, get at least 75 elite longbow man and kite the enemy until there is no enemy.
It's happening!
Good luck after I get my Missionaries and I just convert all of them and then suddenly donkey away.
Except I tech up and get Faith, Heresy and by the time you've converted one unit (That you won't even gain) I'll have already nailed all your missionaries.
