Macs are good for film editing and that is about it, and even then you can do it decently on a windows computer
I would say that the two operating systems only really differ on personal preference. Some tests OS X runs faster some tests Windows runs faster. That is really moot. A valid reason to buy a Mac would be the durability of the product.
I've traveled with 5 laptops over the past few years, and only my MacBook Pro has stayed in it's near perfect condition. Well worth the $400 more I spent on it compared to the Vaio counterpart. And it only weighs like 4 pounds, which is great for travel.
Macs are good for film editing and that is about it, and even then you can do it decently on a windows computer
Exactly, because of Avid
I agree that Apple's marketing and that particular fanbase are negative things. No doubt. But in defense, Apple has to fight a huge market that Windows completely dominates, so I guess they're doing whatever they can. Advertising aside, they're incredibly well made products.
because they r too dumb for computers
Yes, because it is a fact that younger people know how to use computer more than older people.
You can be a physics genius, and STILL don't know how to use a computer.

And yep, they would save a lot of money if they would stick to phones.
Not to mention the money they spend on commercials.
Macs are good for film editing and that is about it, and even then you can do it decently on a windows computer
Yeah. That's all I use them for at college. :3:
I don't like Macs myself but I think that anyone who doesn't see the most obvious use for them should have the right to an opinion revoked.
They're for people who don't give a shit about gaming, efficiency, optimization or customization, who simply want to pick up a computer with very little foreknowledge or technical skill and use it, nothing more and nothing less and I think that they fulfill that goal very well.
OSes are like religion, but in tech industry.

I love how you say this with a degree of certainty when in reality if Apple didn't make a ton of profit off Macs they wouldn't sell them anyway.
I dislike Macs purely because the target consumer group of them consists of idiots (nothing wrong with marketing to idiots though), not that all Mac users are like that but most are.
OSes are like religion, but in tech industry.
Wanna learn about Windows and how it saved my job and boosted my productivity? Don't fall into the temptation of a MAC
[editline]03:57AM[/editline]
Install Now
I'd have to say that for complete newbies, OSX / Mac definitely helps with simple tasks.
Mac generally have limited and specific usages. They're generally specialized computer, not general computers.
They say mac do everything, but mac are generally only good for one or two things and you can't just write your own software or have open source access to things.
Mac OS X has a lot more open components than Windows does (even though Apple are attempting vendor lock-in even more).
Mac users are just as annoying as their commercials, I'm talking from my experience with arguing with a Mac fan. They're the most naive people in the universe.
Fuck them.
Stereotype
Rich people who like to buy expensive things, people who think shiny makes it go faster, people who fall for those sleazy mac adverts
In my opinion they're a waste of money, what a windows can't do a Linux install can do for free. I suppose their notebooks are good though for business travelers, they're durable as fuck and all my previous schools ones which where 7 years old are still intact and working decently
You forgot the usability (yes, in my personal opinion Mac OS X feels a lot better than Windows and so does the hardware in comparison to most PC hardware) and great support.
For me it's that Mac OS X is unix-based (and fits desktops better than any other unixoid OS does).
I treat the macs I have access to like the easel for my work, and they're very efficient tools in that regard. I really feel a lot more relaxed working with them then with my laptop on projects in Photoshop/Illustrator/After Effects/Final Cut Pro, the workflow seems to be a lot smoother
I think this was quite obvious to begin with: When you can get a PC for £200+, and are ingrained in a society where the PC is the norm, you're going to get this level of market penetration
I own a Linux.
The only Linux you can "own" is Redhat, because it comes with Photoshop CS3 standard.
[editline]10:17AM[/editline]
In that case, if you are crazy enough to pay photoshop's price rather than get Gimp, you might as well get Linux with it too.
The only Linux you can "own" is Redhat, because it comes with Photoshop CS3 standard.
Err what, that makes no sense at all.
Also there's a lot more commercial/sold Linux systems.
And he was joking anyway, as Linux is an uncountable noun.

Gimp sucks, there's a reason everyone uses Photoshop.
People who dual-boot windows on a Mac are kind of missing the fucking point of the "debate"(I'm looking at you Xyrofen). It's like saying that your crippled OS is way better and has all the features a PC has but you need Windows to access certain features. It just doesn't make sense.
my school is full of PCs, but I found one mac, it had a touch screen attachment or maybe it was a drool shield, because it was for the retards, no joke.
OSX has no modularity so you're stuck with one computer or the other unless you install OSx86
I don't like that
Mac is suitable for graphic designers, cartoonist and film makers. But surprisingly it is very rare to see anyone here in Singapore using MAC for gaming.
I use my macbook for internet only really. I use my pc to work (graphics and such, photoshop dreamweaver illustrator 3ds etc) but would probably use a mac to work if it was not for the fact that I like to play games. My dad uses an Imac for work and my sister a macbook. My mother uses a windows PC and a windows laptop but she only really does email and internet browsing
No kidding, maybe Apple should stick to mobile devices? There pretty much wasting money on Macs.
no.
if they sell 1 macbook, its equivalent of earning as much as 3 PCs.
MAC user here. I'm ready for your pitchforks here. But I'm a temporary MAC user at the moment, though.

you poor thing
Yeah, It sucks. Only thing I can do is notepad and internet. As well as playing on a mac emulator for games. But not big games like DooM or Steam.
There's always BootCamp or VMWare.

Cont....that's when I get bored. But BootCamp or VMWare doesn't work on any version the mac I got, though. Dad's one is better. Mac is for workaholics. Win is for gamers. Get it? Win. Okay, not really.
Yep, nothing but two solid pages of OS elitism.
Guess what, I'm posting from a laptop running Linux.
Bitches. :v:
I hope your proud of yourself.

Linux sucks and I'm sick of giving it more chances.
My brother understands pretty much everything about Unix and still gets kernel panics. :v:
