There was was a man named Boba.
He was thick as a board, as I told'ja.
He once ate a brain eating bug, it found his head nice and snug,
Now he's the smartest he's been in his life.
That was a poem.
Do it over.
That was a poem.
Do it again.
visions dont make you money
Just one of many reasons why I love the Daily Show.
you do realize that virtually every major bill written in the last century has been longer than that, right?
they need to be thorough to avoid loopholes and vagueness
Yes, that is true. But if it needs 1000 pages to be thorough, then it's probably doing something that isn't a power given to the government by the Constitution.
Even the amendments are short, like Amendment 13
1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Didn't need 1000 pages to say "No slavery".
Yes, that is true. But if it needs 1000 pages to be thorough, then it's probably doing something that isn't a power given to the government by the Constitution.

It's official: PvtCupcakes doesn't trust big books with long words.
Big Books.
Anyone got a Canadian link?
The video links you to it. It's still on the front page of the comedy network.
She pulled some major bullshit during the interview, like the life expectancy one and reimbursement stuff.

Where the hell do you get THAT idea?
I mean, it would make sense that someone would slip something in there because the bill is long, but I hope you do realize that congressmen have to read it or get someone to summarize it for them, it's their fucking job. They don't just get paid to raise their hand or not.

If you're trying to avoid loopholes you're pretty much a terrorist.

Jon>>>>Steven I think.
Jon>>>>Steven I think.
Jon is a better debater, Steven is a better comedian.

Stephan* :3:
FUCK. Colbert, whatever man.
I just think Colbert Report is just an extension of the Daily Show. Kind of like New Jersey.
all opposition to universal healthcare is literally "fuck poor people I hate those bastards"
I don't see what there is to debate :/

After all, it's not like they're a matter of public record AND CAN BE READ BY ANYONE
John Stewart and Stephen Colbert are heroes.
PvtCupcakes you are wrong on just about every level possible.
Bills are big because the Constitution was NOT a list of laws, it was a foundational philosophy that needed to be elaborated on. The US Code is so huge because we NEED to be extremely detailed and precise with the law.
i.e. you can't fucking say "no slaves" if you don't define "slaves" "Slavery" "Slave trade" "abolition" and just about fifty thousand other things, and then elaborate in detail how each one interacts, and THEN start declaring VERY SPECIFIC laws.
[editline]08:03PM[/editline]
And FYI we DID need 1000 pages to say No Slavery.
The Emancipation Proclamation was a fucking proclamation, not a set of legitimate legal standards.
Stewart is fuckin awesome. Usually he sticks to good comedy, but once in a while he takes a break to expose people for the blatant frauds that they are.
The "Government will pull the plug on Grandma" hoax is nothing but fear tactics, plain and simple. The actual language of the bill, plain and simple, is nowhere near the shit these people are using to scare and intimidate the public into opposing badly needed reform.
After all, it's not like they're a matter of public record AND CAN BE READ BY ANYONE
Unfortunately, this means illiterates and morons can get their hands on the bills and misinterpret them.
If you enjoyed this, watch Stewart interview Jim Cramer

Most Americans won't be able to understand the bill.
