religion is no good though, 98% of people in jail follow some religion. Without religion there wouldnt be religious extremists, and the south park creators wouldnt have a death threat:D
That's an incredibly stupid comment. Without religion, we would just be fighting over something else, get over it. Religion doesn't cause problems, people do. People just fight over religion because it's there to fight over, pretend it never existed and there will still be wars and people fighting over different things.

Actually, I think South Park did an episode where Cartman went to the future and everyone was an atheist and they were still fighting eachother. It ended up being over what they should call themselves I think.

Atheists are easier to argue with because they think logically, and pay attention to facts that contradict their beliefs. On the contrary a religious fanatic beliefs that they are going to heaven for whatever crazy shit their god told them to do, and thus can't really be reasoned with.
america is simply christian
Ever heard of Thomas Jefferson?
Personally my favourite...

Pretty much. They act like children, throwing logical fallacies at you as if they were actual arguments.
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
Secular nation? Sure as fuck not.
We were founded by Christian ideals, but we let everyone worship as they please, which makes us a secular nation.
Yeah.

Yep, but with less reasons to bitch, then there's less fights.
Doesn't separation of church and state specifically mean that we are secular?
I don't think if religion disappeared fighting would just substitute for something else. There would still be a hell of a lot of fighting, but religion is certainly a barrier that causes alot of hatred. It does cause problems in its extreme forms because it teaches people to hate others. Even in its "milder" forms I think religion is an unecessary barrier between people, one that can physically be removed unlike nationality, race or gender. It creates tension for reasons that usually break down as soon as the superior forces of logic and science step in.

Religion, all together, has no use in the world. I still wonder why people continue to cling on to the explanations of the previously unexplainable. Science does that now, making the main point of a deity a useless concept.
Its irrelevant because regardless how your country may be up on top, you're still Americas bitch with cops on horses.

I'm so fucking glad I live in Canada.
We still have god in our national anthem, which would be fine if those were the original lyrics. But they aren't.
And guess whos PM loves our Presidents monster dong?
and thats a shame, thought canada still had class to ride around on ponies. Well enjoy your american squad cars.
I'd like to see you pussies brave some Canadian winters. BTW, enjoy your Canadian trained fighter pilots.

As an atheist myself, I must respectfully disagree with this. I have seen some people so fervantly defend atheism, it might as well have been a religion to them. My problem is not so much what people believe, but why, and if you're just some dipshit kid rebelling against your parents, that is not a good reason to call yourself an atheist. If you wish to deny the existence of any gods (which is the true definition of atheism btw, purely a lack of belief in gods. Has nothing to do with afterlife or other "higher powers" like fate and karma) then know that for some people, that's a pretty big deal.

This reminds me of the mentality of those Palestinian suicide bombers. If they blow themselves up, they will die an honorable martyr's death and strike a blow to their enemy, and because of that, they will go to heaven with their 72 virgins, and their family will get a $20,000 reward for their sacrifice.
There's no downside!
We were founded by Christian ideals, but we let everyone worship as they please, which makes us a secular nation.
Yeah.
We weren't founded on Christian ideals what the cunt are you talking about
"And this be our motto: "In God is our trust""
- American National Anthem.
Doesn't separation of church and state specifically mean that we are secular?
Why is in god we trust still on my god damn money?
A leftover of the cold war era, where america went the furthest to the right and stayed there until the end, and then some.
A leftover of the cold war era, where america went the furthest to the right and stayed there until the end, and then some.
A leftover which totally debunks the notion of the US being a secular nation.
"And this be our motto: "In God is our trust""

Added in the 50's to weed out dirty Commies, irrelevant.

cops on horses > cops without horses
conservatives know a lot economically they're just dumb socially
Eh sort of, until you get into tea partier territory. Then they're retarded economically as well.
John McCain caught flak for saying in 2007 that the Constitution established the U.S. as a Christian nation.
I'm glad he caught flak for that considering it's a fucking retarded thing to say.
Except England isn't a secular nation. We pay direct taxes to the head of the Anglican Church.
By De Jura we are still tied to the Anglican church, but by De Jura we have a fiercely secular political system (just look at the storm that Tony Blair caused when he said God would judge him on the Iraq war). This is kind of a bizarre oposite to the US where it's the other way round.
There are US citizens, a lot of them, who think the US IS a Christian nation. The money says "In God We Trust", the schools mention God in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Christmas is THE holiday, need I say more?
So, even though he didn't use the word secular, to deny for everyone that fact is going to offend and anger huge chunks of the population.
For that he has my appreciation, the more pissed off those people get the happier I am.
That huge chunk of the population offended me when they added "In God We Trust" and "under God" to money and the pledge 150 years after the constitution was written.
After Hitchens and Dawkins are done with the pope, they need to come deal with the Huckabees and Robertsons
O god christians are angry...

I wouldn't try tolerating intolerant fucktards.
