Obama calls America a secular nation, conservatives outraged

The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to dislike this country...
John McCain caught flak for saying in 2007 that the Constitution established the U.S. as a Christian nation.
Pfft I remember this, it honestly confused me, conservatives talk about the constitution so much yet they barely understand it.
Thats true, you are pretty much restating what i said\
religion is no good though, 98% of people in jail follow some religion.
That doesn't mean anything, if the percentage of atheists in America was higher, then that might correlate to something. And "I found god, I am now a devout and caring Christian" doesn't exactly damage someone at their parole hearing.
I don't think if religion disappeared fighting would just substitute for something else. There would still be a hell of a lot of fighting, but religion is certainly a barrier that causes alot of hatred. It does cause problems in its extreme forms because it teaches people to hate others. Even in its "milder" forms I think religion is an unecessary barrier between people, one that can physically be removed unlike nationality, race or gender. It creates tension for reasons that usually break down as soon as the superior forces of logic and science step in.
Religion does not teach people to hate others, people teach people to hate others.
Also I love how most Atheists complain about not being able to reason with religious people or how religion causes hatred. Really? You're hating on religious people for being religious, you're doing EXACTLY what you say is so bad and what you say religion causes.
Religion, all together, has no use in the world. I still wonder why people continue to cling on to the explanations of the previously unexplainable. Science does that now, making the main point of a deity a useless concept.
If you really think that then you have no idea religion is and why people believe in a God.
We were founded by Christian ideals.
not at all
not at all
The only thing "Christian" on our founding was the (probably very little) Christian founding fathers, but that doesn't mean shit
This reminds me of the mentality of those Palestinian suicide bombers. If they blow themselves up, they will die an honorable martyr's death and strike a blow to their enemy, and because of that, they will go to heaven with their 72 virgins, and their family will get a $20,000 reward for their sacrifice.
There's no downside!
It's more political then religious.
Its irrelevant because regardless how your country may be up on top, you're still Americas bitch with cops on horses.

If you really think that then you have no idea religion is and why people believe in a God.
They do now due to fear of nothing happening after death. That was always a core root. Those two reasons are in no way, excuses for hate, bigotry, and what religion has done to hinder our advancement.
Also, "A religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a supernatural agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs." -Wikipedia.
The cause, nature, and purpose of the universe? Like attempting to explain what we could not? People use it in fear, of a deity or their own loved ones. You just have to accept that nobody is going to a lake of fire, and nobody is going to a paradise. The concept of not being alive is strange, it is scary, but as an adult, you have to face up to it, and not hide behind religion. You can have your beliefs, whatever. But my beef with religion is the constant muck of it slowing us from wading to better, longer, and happier lives.
