I never said everyone all the time. I said a portion of the population could prefer this. Have you been around someone whose lifestyle is getting high? They're boring and useless, and I've seen it happen to people with real potential. And to respond to what you said earlier, my friends are idiots for getting that sucked into weed, yes. But it happens, and when one of the first things to come to these reporters' minds when writing about this new drugs is its recreational potential, that really worries me.
Yay, ignorance about drug users, this is off to a great start. I too have been around a lot of drug users and people who do them quite often, and very few of them are like that. Most of them are highly energetic and very creative people. Most of them have jobs in arts industries and do quite well for themselves. But your experience isn't all there is to these things.

Stan Lee must be shaking in his boots. :v:
This could be very, very useful.

I have no experience with hard drug users (if that's what you mean by drugs), nor am I trying to liken this autism pill to them. I'm talking about potheads who lose motivation and become almost completely apathetic. I'm not saying that happens to everyone who casually smokes, and I'm definitely not saying it will be the only result of the release of this new pill. But shit like this can happen, and I've seen it.

I'm curious what will happen to "95%" of Facepunch according to some people.
I mean, I smoke somewhat often and I still maintain a very high level of motivation, although senioritis is hitting me hard. You're right that it depends on the person, but there are people who will take advantage of another escape from reality, and it frustrates me that this is already being discussed as a new medium for doing so.
A future where everyone is autistic. Finally, people will appreciate the Sonic The Hedgehog fanbase.

No, I see what you're saying that plenty of people you know balance casual drug usage with productive lives. And I believe you. I don't know why you don't believe me when I say the opposite of that happens.

Never said I didn't believe in it, but it's just not as wide spread amongst the majority of drug users than people would like to believe.
I want to marry you, science.

I definitely would not like to believe it, I hope you're right. And I seriously doubt this pill will result in any Huxleyean world, but there's nothing wrong with staying wary.

I have to agree man.
As for the OP,
I'd gladly take this pill for studying, Why? I have a very hard time working on ANYTHING for longer then 5 mins - this would really help me become smarter and able to help with focusing on things that i need to get done

i think the drug will have to do something better than induce autism before it warrants any wariness.

ok??? so less reason to be wary of it?
The article is a bit misleading. Lacking emotions, having obsessions, and being detail-oriented isn't related to autism, but a different mental disorder. They should of termed it as asperger syndrome instead of autism to be more specific, as the kind of autism they are referring to is just that, asperger syndrome. Put simply, asperger syndrome just means that the social part of the brain is completely underdeveloped, and nearly nonexistant, while every other section of the brain is drastically improved. It's a trade off between having a very high IQ, great amount of focus, and fast processing capabilities. As for lack of emotions, don't judge a book by it's cover. While we may not outwardly express ourselves in the same manner as a 'neurotypical' person, and may very well seem that we do not have emotions, that doesn't mean that they aren't there. Put simply, people with asperger syndrome do have emotions, but they keep it hidden, and generally lack the knowledge of how to express it, and very well may have more empathy than a regular person. However, although social functions are nearly nonexistant, friends are still very, very important to us. While we may not have 300+ facebook friends, we do attempt to have friends, and may keep really close friends. Human relationships are very important, people with autism are generally friendless and lonely. But if you were to become a close friend with someone with autism, they may open up and seem just like everyone else.
I have a professional diagnosis of asperger syndrome, and I would rather not be cured of it. There is nothing bad about it at all. I consider it as who I am, and curing it would make me into a different person, which I would not want to be.

I think he misinterpreted what you meant by "better". I'll be wary of any pill that produces an altered state of mind and is designed to detach us from each other. It's not an inherently negative assumption, but I think it's better to play it safe.
This is one of very few drugs I actually want to try.

ok i just don't think it would be too dangerous. i'd much rather smoke weed or something than be autistic for however long the pill works.
Only problem is, you can only focus on things you're interested in.
Doesn't help in class, trust me. Or unless this is some kind of superpill.
This sounds really risky and dangerous for some reason. I wouldn't trust any pill that had such a drastic effect on my personality.
No thanks, I'd rather not be Autistic even for a second. Not to mention that if there is a project I want to finish, then I'll fucking finish it because I want to, no need for a pill.
