what are you the thread police?
but yeah, sorry
nope i just find the topic interesting and would rather not see the thread derailed. ON TOPIC: so will they start prescribing this to autistic people once it's gone through enough testing?

but like, who would they prescribe it to? isn't there a wide spectrum of autisms?

depends on how well this drug works, if it cures all forms of autism then...they'd give it to every autistic
if it cures only certain kinds then they'd prescribe it to certain autists.

what if it only works on mice!

Then it would be labeled Ritalin.
It would be weird if you tried it and got cured when you were expecting to induce it.
Just like if marijuana was legal everyone would always be constantly high.
These arguments make no sense at all, not everyone is constantly drunk all the time, are they?
Only because I can't afford it.
Seriously though this is really interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Would I try "temporary Autism"?
Thankfully I don't need this pill, but i'd jump at the chance to try the Cure pill, if the effects were temporary. Oh, what I would give to see the world through different eyes and a saner mind, if even just for a day...
It'd serve to offer quite a bounty of potential literary material concerning different perspectives. I just hope it doesn't evoke an alternate personality or nothing, 'cause I don't want no chavvy Jason character walking around whilst Edward sleeps.

i'm quite liberal when it comes to altering my state of mind but nothing i've heard about autism makes me think it'd be an enjoyable experience

It's to boost performance, not for fun.
Why is Minecraft autistic? or is it some circlejerk thing
Oh god it's a pill that makes into [img_thumb]http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ARKcIbd1M2oYLM:http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/3953/1237753125512.jpg&t=1[/img_thumb] for a little while :aaa:
Because autistic people are obsessed with organization and the like and are also anti-social, so Minecraft fits them perfectly.
If it cures autism then Notch is going to go bankrupt.
Wouldn't there be a stage as it wears off? Like just slightly autistic... an auti-comedown. "Sorry i don't know if i can be bothered to go to that party, gonna do some more maths since i've still got a bit of a hangover from those auties"
I want a pill that cures the absence of social life :smith:

I like how Facepunch thinks this is useful.
I read the description and I feel autistic already. This is a really coo excuse to be a virgin

in the article they state that people might use it for recreational purposes.
I'll believe it when I see it.

Finally Ill be able to play Minecraft without dying from boredom.
in the article they state that people might use it for recreational purposes.
Well if you read the "why" it's not really recreational it's for escaping from the drama and emotions of life.
Wouldn't people who use this to fight the inability to concentrate on something be prone to addiction in the first place?
Wouldn't someone have an even harder time getting things done without this, once used to it?

I guess it's the same for every drug. If you're doing a drug 'for fun' but you do it too often, you won't be able to have fun without it.
And in addition to the article: I think it's not a thing of "just give it to autistic people and they are cured"
Chemical and pharmacist reasons aside, suddenly being "cured" of autism seems like psychologic hell to me. YOu grew up like this. Now you get the stuff and BAM suddenly there are millions of feelings/thoughts/ actions you never even were able to HAVE before.
Frightening.

okay well i was just pointing out why i doubt it would be used recreationally.

Might be useful for those 5 hour long homework sessions I seem to be doing lately.
