doesnt this do the same thing ADD medication? If you ever taken it you would know what I mean.
When can i buy this retard pill?
This sounds like it could be dangerous.
question, would it work for some one who has aspergers? as that's apparently part of the autism scale
I think it's aimed at Aspergers. Article seems a little ignorant, though, doesn't it?
My sister has autism, lower functioning though. Even if the pill worked, would I really want to see the new her?
Mom can you get me these pills i want Autism :downs:
Curing autism seems like a pretty big step forward. Inducing it...that just sounds a little scary.
[img_thumb]http://golgotron.com/wp-content/uploads/Shut-up-and-take-my-money.jpg[/img_thumb] Disagreeing with leach139. I must experience life without ze aspergers. Many a painful day it has been in my life. Actually, fuck that, they have their facts wrong. "It might also lead to recreational autism, where people who want to take a break from having messy emotions about other people decide to unplug and enter a state where human relationships are no more important than inanimate objects." I don't recall deciding that human relationships are worthless. This sentence alone gives me the feeling they're just wanting to get rid of a group (prejudice). Giving me the image of bullying, right here. I have loved everything science has done so far, but if they feel like being dicks about it and making jokes like that, I'll give them the middle finger
Dude, it's an article on io9.com; don't take it so seriously.
My sister has autism, lower functioning though. Even if the pill worked, would I really want to see the new her?
It doesn't make a "new" her it just modifies an abnormality in brain function.
What if she turned out to be an asshole after taking the pill?
I consider it as who I am, and curing it would make me into a different person, which I would not want to be.
How do you know? You might like your non-burger self.
How do you know? You might like your non-burger self.
No thanks, I am doing perfectly fine in the world with asperger syndrome being close to the center of my success. A 4.0 GPA and a high paying IT job is very rewarding, as well as the fact that I like computers. Asperger syndrome merely augments what I like best so I can do them better. I'd rather not be a very social person, I have all the friends I need.

But some people would probably rather be different, no one should be forced into this, they should be given the choice when they're adults to make the decision. It'd be better that way.
That's neat and all, but I'd be utterly terrified of getting 'stuck' that way.
Welcome to my reality.
Once again, MAXIMUM SCIENCE!
What if she turned out to be an asshole after taking the pill?
Autism is not part of your developed personality or character, its the base for your personality and inhibits or exacerbates certain mannerisms. Maybe I didnt read the article enough, but it doesnt look like a cure, it looks like a treatment. If it is a cure, then |I dont see why a temporary treatment form couldn't be made for people to test themselves.

And there are plenty of high scoring computer programmers that aren't autistic. It's a one pill every day thing.
are these in repositories? i love shoving things up my ass
Plenty of people I know have had their lives consumed by weed, and alcoholism isn't exactly a joke. Now I'm not saying this pill could have those effects at all, I have no idea how its chemistry works, but if the "euphoria" it produces is appealing enough, it very well could be preferable to reality for people.
I don't smoke or reccomend weed, but it's nearly physicaly impossible to die from it. The ammount you need to smoke to die would kill you of smoke inhalation or dehydration.
That's neat and all, but I'd be utterly terrified of getting 'stuck' that way.
This, a thousand times this. Until I know exactly what this pill does, and what the risks associated with it are, I'm not going to even entertain the idea of trying it. I mean, no offence to people with autism, but jesus christ I'd hate to suddenly be struck with the condition permanently. It'd be okay if it was just as a temporary measure, but I really doubt I'd go in for it, messing with my mind and stuff. I have a feeling the news article may be fake anyways.
I like how it can cure people with autism, but have the pills locked up tightly, so you can't change yourself. Once you're you, you're you. If an autistic baby is born, the parents can cure it. But you shouldn't be able to find these pills and become autistic.
Wait, what happens if you have a mild case of Aspergers? Does it make it worse or do you feel no difference?
Why? [editline]2nd January 2011[/editline] You don't have a mild case of aspergers you're just anti-social.
Maybe so, but I have several of the symptoms listed on WebMD.
Maybe so, but I have several of the symptoms listed on WebMD.
Like what?
Maybe so, but I have several of the symptoms listed on WebMD.
Umm I used webmd the the other day because I had sharp pains in my chest when laying down and it told me to seek immediate medical attention and that it was either a pulmonary embolism or a sprained muscle. Well 2 days later I feel just fine. Morale of the story is, don't trust webmd, get an actual doctor's say in something.
I usually have a formal manner of speech, (though this could be me subconsciously being a douchebag) I can't look people in the eye, my voice is very monotone (I didn't even know that was a symptom until today) I catch myself thinking out loud A LOT and my handwriting is poor.
