Well for all of those missing it, I'd imagine the point is to highlight the human suffering that goes into the massive jewelry industry by coating a ring in what went into it, rather than the aesthetically pleasing product of the suffering. His intent had to be to make it aesthetically revolting, because there are many ways one can prepare flesh of any kind to be pleasing to the eye. He had it preserved in it's gross detail, as a snapshot of a body on the table in the morgue or after recently being dumped into a shallow grave. In fact, one could argue that that is the theme behind a lot of his work because it all highlights that we define fashion and beauty unknowingly on the amount of suffering that goes into it.
Nope, he's just weird.
Holy shit, Dwarf Fortress has become a reality
This must've been one hell of a fey mood...
When are pre-orders available?
;39463627']I'm just waiting for someone to arrive and start defending it as "art" and "expression"
Can't say I like the ring but literally everybody, especially on facepunch, says exactly what you're saying because they think it makes their "decision" about art immune from any kind of backlash or negative response. It doesn't, sorry. The ring's pretty gross, but in a way it looks pretty interesting and I've certainly never thought of something like this before. I find it pretty interesting. Just because you toss around the words "art" and "expression" in ironic and sarcastic tones doesn't change a thing, and if you think you're the first person to ever defend their criticism of it by implying everybody who disagrees with you is some form of pretentious then you're pretty wrong.
;39463627']I'm just waiting for someone to arrive and start defending it as "art" and "expression"
It is art and it is expression but it that doesn't mean it isn't gross. Hell if he made it just to gross people out then that still puts it under expression.
cant imagine what it would look like if they took the skin from his ballsack instead probably look like a ring made out of a brain or something
Holy shit, Dwarf Fortress has become a reality
Doesn't menace with spikes of human bone. 0/10 would not buy
I puked a little.

Doesn't explain the price, though. He "suffered" to make a point about suffering, then expects a hefty paycheck for it. Right.
Oh, I see. He only uses 'unconventional materials' so he doesn't have to put any real effort into his work.
I find this disgusting as well and while I am not a fan of srulis work he is one of the more innovative designers and you don't know how much effort designers put into their work.
Sure. Doesn't explain the price, though. He "suffered" to make a point about suffering, then expects a hefty paycheck for it. Right.
Well, what is a rare and precious diamond other than another rock to adorn jewelry with? I think the pricing is part of the message.
If he wants to go for the unnerving, borderline-red-flag-for-a-serial-killer vibe he should really go whole hog on it. Not coughing up cash until there's a ski mask made out of his actual face.
Wont the skin just rot pretty soon anyway?
Wont the skin just rot pretty soon anyway?
Not if it's properly tanned. http://www.humanleather.co.uk/index.html
I think it looks alright actually. Don't get me wrong it's disgusting, but looks sort of cool.
It would look well if it was leather from... something else... Not even Sauron would want that.
