Air battery to let electric cars outlast gas guzzlers
In theory, great idea, but how much would it cost to do that?
a whole hell of a lot, maybe we can afford it when America eventually collapses and the replacement nation hits a economic boom.
Unless you're rich and can afford to buy a new car every year I don't see how it affects you, car aesthetics change every decade anyway, ten years from now you may end up finding a car that you think looks amazing and has great MPG as well.
About performance, I don't see the point in going over a hundred MPH unless you live out in the middle of nowhere, which I doubt you do, most modern cars perform decently enough anyway, I doubt car manufacturers will sacrifice that much performance, and even if they do it will probably only be the really cheap cars that sell for next to nothing.
Alright. You make a good point actually, I was just commenting on what appears to be the trend in new vehicles. I will get an EV someday, but I do want to hang on to my ICE car for the enjoyment of it. As to cars going over 100 MPH, super cars are a ton of fun. I can't afford one, and not many can, but if I can someday afford one, I would like there to still be big super cars with massive V12s. Just my .02 cents
And that's fine, ICE cars won't disappear overnight, there's nothing stopping you from driving them forever, I mean if all the oil reserves dried up that might but I don't see that happening any time soon. :v:
Also, I apologize for calling that guy a moron earlier.
Well thank you for seeing my point of view. I apologize for insulting you earlier, and I am glad that we could come to an understanding on the topic lol.
As to the original topic itself, as I said earlier, I think its great that they are improving battery technology, as not only will it be beneficial for better electric cars, but laptops, cell phones, anything battery powered. And I look forward to the day I can buy myself a nice electric car for my commute, it would save me quite a bit of money, and make my other car last that much longer so that I can enjoy it.
Btw the Leaf is pretty decent looking car, I mean there a few things I would like to see changed in its design, but if I could pick up one for under 15,000 that had a range of 100+ miles, I probably would.
Impressive, Facepunch manages to apologize to each other after a hissy fit argument over giant RC cars.
That is the biggest case of a straw-man and hyperbole ever I think.
Yeah, entertainment is great and all, thats why we make things specifically for entertainment like carnivals, movies, TV Shows and the lot. My complaint is that you're taking something specifically designed to go from Point A to Point B, and then instead of doing that, basically just driving around aimlessly for a bit, putting unnecessary wear on the vehicle and generating incredible amounts of pollution for gratification that could easily be found elsewhere and would be better off if found elsewhere.

Granted, but people do all sorts of stupid things that one can argue are harmful to the environment in some way. Pollution-producing power plants, for instance, power all the carnivals, amusement parks, TV broadcasters, etc. Right now, travel means burning fossil fuels to get to some river where you get to dangle yourself from a bridge by a big god-damn rubber-band. And alot of the devices people buy to amuse themselves, when they are broken, are often sent to land-fills where the mercury, phosphorus, cadmium, etc. will remain and seep into ground aquifers for years to come.
So really, enjoying the act of driving a car is no more weird or wasteful a hobby than many others.
