based on my extensive resarch of windows 8, i can confirm it's for big fat dumbies because it's "made for tablets" and the fact that every other windows OS has been bad, fact. look at me guys i am good at compuer
Posted by my MacBook Pro 15" Retina(tm)
The question remains, why didn't they give us Windows 8 the choice of a Start menu and aero (transparent theme/skin)? Why are they forcing people to use Metro UI, why do people need a start menu which keeps jumping up in front of the entire screen and gets in the way? Start8 is just a shitty third party tweak.
it wasnt a big flop
Except it was. If it wasn't such a big flop you wouldn't see 93% of brand new British PCs being sold with Win7 pre-installed. Windows 8 was a big flop. You can deny it all you want but that won't change anything.
I own a win8 key but I'm probably still going to use 7 for a good time to come until it becomes worth it. Windows 7 still interfaces with my windows phone so.
I've been on Windows 8 since the beginning of the year, Here are my opinions: + I personally like the visual style a bit more, this is entirely preference + Dual monitor support is better. Not quite like Ultramon, but they actually care this time around + I love the new task manager. So much more helpful and it looks modern. + The new stuff for explorer looks very nice + Boot times are much better + Every program/game I try with it works fine +/- Metro isn't good, but you don't really have to use it - The charms bar is annoying, I have yet to have any use for it other than checking the time when you have a fullscreen app open on your primary monitor. - Hot corners take some getting used to for dual monitors Thats pretty much it. I think it was worth the $30 for win8 pro, but everyone can make their own decisions
That's a really good question actually. The only way they could kill the start menu is to kill it completely without giving users a chance to cling to the start menu.

Since I can put any folders I want on there instead of having devices and printers. Have you even used Start8?
The list is also old, so many, if not all, have been fixed by now. It was also a 30 second google.
Only a very small number of those games had issues when Microsoft was still testing 8. Some of the games I've played on that list since 8 launched have worked without a problem. Also why link a 30 second google search if you know there's no problem with any of those games?
Hah! Who needs Windows 7 when I have my perfectly fine Windows XP computer to use! Heh heh heh..... [sp]kill me[/sp]
Makes sense in my opinion windows 7 is a lot better then windows 8!
Idort master race here. I am running win7 on my laptop and win8 on my desktop.
ok dude you win i cant even hold a light 2 ur awesomeness
why is everybody arguing about upgrades when it's even in the thread title that this was about new computers with an OS installed on them you're getting the computer with an OS on it either way, it isn't like you have to go out of your way to buy and install 8 to run new computers now. The OSs run practically the same for people who don't care about the under-the-hood stuff. Don't upgrade if you have 7. If you're stuck with a fresh copy of 7 or 8, it'll cost the same for the PC and they'll both support pretty much everything you want to do. Some people don't like metro, that's a legitimate complaint (that's fixed pretty easily with a start button mod), but people saying it's shit compared to 7 for any other reason confuse me.
why is everybody arguing about upgrades when it's even in the thread title that this was about new computers with an OS installed on them
this is the internet; people will use any excuse to unleash their seething rage
Just going to say windows 7 was an attempt to make it user friendly for tablets, hence pinning big icons to the taskbar
Or maybe that was because they knew people don't have 6k resolution widths and using the traditional xp way of having the name of them and the icon wouldn't fit on most peoples computer screens.
Hardware isn't ready for Windows 8 machines. Can't throw a tablet OS onto a laptop and call it good. P.S. posted from a Windows 8 machine - it "works" but to outright deny it's designed for touchscreens is like saying Hitler loved Jews.
To be honest the situation when vista came out was much muhc much worse. The only thing win8 laptops need are good trackpads. They don't crash and burn like the first wave of vista hardware.
