or the sector being overwritten

it's true that files aren't deleted when you delete them in a windows user-interface, they're flagged as over-writable space however. there's a very large chance that, especially in an active computer, that it was just written over.
If it's hardware damage, fair enough. It's still not acceptable to not keep an off-site backup though.
Guess it all comes down to luck though in the end.
I really like to imagine that on some employee's desktop PC there is a "ps4 an winners.txt" file on his desktop and while he was bored and randomly dicking around on his PC he just deletes a few files including that and has it so that everything he deletes does not go straight to the bin but gets perma-deleted.
Couldn't Sony have acted like nothing ever happened and just handpick 123 new winners? i mean versus some bad PR
-snip wrong thread-
Probably stored them in the Recycle Bin.

If I had a dollar for every time...

I had to re-download something yesterday that was going to take several hours to download. About an hour in I decided to empty the recycle bin since there was something in it, half way through the deletion noticed that the thing in there was the extracted version of what I was re-downloading. Died a little inside.

How is that a thing Ô.o
Can't Sony re-run whatever number picker they had to get the same keys as they had?
I guess they actually deleted all information connected to the raffle.
Sounds more like a sneaky way to get more people to run for the raffle.

Why can't I edit my posts properly anymore *shakefist*
What are backups?

Could've also decided to play lose/lose, and got lucky
