• Lib Dem conference in Sheffield, 1,000 police officers to deal with "excessive behaviour"

Nick Clegg will return to his hometown on Friday to hold a Liberal Democrat conference, however rather than being welcomed with open arms, heavy protests are expected to take place. 1,000 police officers will be used in South Yorkshire Police's biggest operation since the G8 summit in 2005, and will be costing around £2m, while being told to save £15m due to cuts. The conference was to be originally held in London in December, however this was changed due to fears of a repeat of the student protests Supt Martin Scothern said contingency plans were in place in case of "excessive behaviour". He added: "There needs to be an operation put together that can deal with all eventualities. "London is a different place, but I'm aware of some of the strength of feelings. "We are expecting some protests and we're talking to some protest groups and for that purpose we have set up a dedicated protest liaison team for people whose intentions are to peacefully protest." Labour Councillor Shaun Wright, from the police authority, said it was "ironic" the force would have to pay for the service for the political party who had a hand in devising its cuts. I wouldn't have thought of Cleggzilla as being appropriate. He's more like a mix between Dobby the house elf, Gollum and an abused wife.
well that's what you get for being a big far liar mate god forbid you fucking use skype like normal fucking people, no instead you have to spend 2 million fuck pounds just so you can reassure your shrinking voter base that you are not 100% with david cameron on all issues, disagreeing on vital subjects like which day should be sheppards pie day
Gotta say that poster is fucking awesome
I just love the fact it has David Cameron's irritating smiley face in the background
What is the UNISC?
What is the UNISC?
If you mean the poster, part has been cut off so it should say UNISON
Excessive behaviour? What's that, was everyone being very very polite?
Why aren't there any Cleggzilla posters where I live?
I was there a couple of hours ago, only 2 protesters but hundreds of police just around everywhere as they're expecting 10,000 protesters. They've completely blocked the city hall off (as this is where the conference is being held): The police have said protesters are only allowed in certain places and are banned from protesting in other parts. The shops around the city hall have metal walls in front of them with small gates so customers can enter but they can be closed to protect the shops. At the moment it's very quiet, just lots of police and police vans Nick Clegg has told Lib Dem MPs to 'hold their nerve' and to 'not be cowed by what protesters are saying'. He is still confident he can win the public over again.
