LGBT community in Ohio upset after someone puts up joke "Straight White Guy Festival" posters
It's a "thing" in that occasionally your Facebook friends post a picture about how they're proud to be straight because they apparently aren't allowed to by the PC liberals
Reactionary idiots who hate feeling excluded, basically
It's more that they hate other people being included. They like feeling exclusive. That's why things like "straight pride" "white power" and "mens rights" generally focus almost entirely on why they hate everyone else rather than why they enjoy themselves.
“This kind of thing implies there's some kind of struggle going on for being a straight white person in Ohio. Straight white people are doing just fine,” said Michael Premo.
Y'know, they may not be struggling because of being straight or white but not every white person is born with a trust fund and a Lamborghini. Plenty of straight white people have it bad
I'm totally up for two Saint Patrick's Days in a year I don't see the problem
We won't even need to dye the beer for this one because it's already kinda beige
Y'know, they may not be struggling because of being straight or white but not every white person is born with a trust fund and a Lamborghini. Plenty of straight white people have it bad
I think the bigger issue with that quote is that the poster itself doesn't suggest there's a struggle and instead says "help us celebrate our enjoyment"
It's clearly tongue-in-cheek
Using sarcasm on fp is like swimming with sharks, there's a pretty good chance chance you won't get out of it unscathed regardless of who you are... except Garry (unless it's Rust kiddies he's talking to).
Pretty sure everyone got the sarcasm, it was just a stupid joke that nobody found funny.

What I found funny about that quote is, literally no where on that poster does it imply what he's saying. It literally just say there's a festival, and everyone is included :v:

I'm not really sure you can lump in men's rights with white power.
There are legitimately areas of society where men are treated unfairly compared to women. See: child custody.
Unless you're referring to the ones on Reddit, then yeah they're terrible.
That's hilarious. Looks like my state isn't as gay as I thought... wait...

I totally agree, I'm just sayin' it's kinda weird how a lot of people who aren't straight and white automatically assume that if you're straight and white everything is fantastic for you :v:
Probably would be the most mundane festival ever because there's nothing to really celebrate other than genocide and maybe wiping out a few cultures
this is why we can't have nice things
I don't get it I'm a straight white guy and I don't complain about LGBT festivals?
[sp]People are too damn sensitive really[/sp]
I totally agree, I'm just sayin' it's kinda weird how a lot of people who aren't straight and white automatically assume that if you're straight and white everything is fantastic for you :v:
See I think less people assume that than the general public assumes. Most people seem to completely misunderstand the idea of privilege, it's not at all saying all white people have it good. Basically, there is an overreaching class divide that affects all people, but there is no real institutional disadvantage for white people on top of it.

I'm referring to the movement, not the concept. While there are some areas where men do genuinely get the short end of the stick (although if I recall correctly fathers seeking custody get it more often than mothers, but I don't have the documents on me to verify that at the moment), pretty much everyone who claims to actually be doing anything for "the mens rights movement" is actually just railing about how much they hate the womens rights movement.

there are rational men's rights activists though; they're called feminists/pro-feminists (men's rights are also a subject in feminist theory)
most people who care about men's rights just don't use the MRA label as it has become associated with the kind of bellends you'd find in reddit and pretty much every other large community. it's really kind of redundant.
I'm so triggered

:suicide: 4th post and the thread is ruined.
Why can't straight people be proud of their sexuality? It's not about being discriminatory to gays, it's about being happy who you are.
Why do you need to be proud? The only reason other people seek to express pride is they are constantly oppressed and insulted for the way they are. If I tell you right now, yeah you can be proud, is that really going to change anything with your life? You're not going to go out and throw a parade or anything because the truth is you don't care, you just want your share of the attention which you perceive as a feel-good celebration of oneself but what is actually a counter to being treated like a second class citizen
Why can't straight people be proud of their sexuality? It's not about being discriminatory to gays, it's about being happy who you are.
because it's not so much as being proud that you're gay, it's that you're happy you're gay in spite of all the things you've had to suffer because of your sexual orientation, yet still stood strong and you're proud of that. it's less a celebration of homosexuality itself and more of a statement along the lines of "we're here and we're not going anywhere". straight people never had to endure "heterophobia" or anything like that.
much in the same way you present your argument, it's not about denying the right of self-love to straight people (or exclude/segregate themselves from straight people, for that matter), it's about gay people being comfortable with who they are in a world that unfortunately is still hostile to them in many ways.
[editline]yeah[/editline]
or at least that's how i see it, so gay people please if correct me i'm wrong

You are literally telling straight white men that they can't be proud of who they are.

No one wants to use MRA or feminist labels because both have been tainted by fucking crazies.
And I can't say I've read much about men's rights in feminist literature: you might be confusing that with gender roles, which are a far more common topic.
if gay people didn't have problems then gay pride would be redundant. this is why there's no straight pride
You are literally telling straight white men that they can't be proud of who they are.
you can be proud of who you are if you want, it's just entirely devoid of meaning unless there's something to actually give it relevance. and because of that intrinsic lack of meaning it always defaults to being childish backlash against other things that actually serve some kind of purpose, because what the hell else do you do at straight pride or white pride or whatever

i am a white, straight, middle class dude and hey! i've done a lot of things i'm proud of, certainly! but being white or straight are not among them. why? because i did literally nothing to "achieve" that status.
i'm proud that i've overcome difficulties and, fucking, i don't know, worked into becoming a better person, managing to overcome my own shitty and bigoted ideas, etc. because those things involve struggle and effort, it makes sense to be proud of them; they're achievements. being white and straight is just me winning the genetic lottery.
there's black pride and gay pride and what have you because those groups have achieved things for themselves that make that pride warranted. that's not to say white, straight dudes have it easy and our lives are void of any problems or that we're evil oppressors.
think of it like this: as hard as your life might be as a white, straight guy, someone who is in the same conditions as you but isn't white or straight will probably have it worse.
well, either that or i'm a brainwashed gender/race traitor!

People can't ask to not be oppressed then proceed to try and oppress.

This is literally "I'm proud of my sexuality let's have a festival" and then turning around to someone else having the same stance and going "fuck off you're not special like me."
My mindset for "equality" is that people are actually fucking equal. Live and let live, don't try and start conflicts. Even if it's fucking pointless, I should be able to have a "straight white guy" festival.
If I can't, then we aren't equal.

then go have a straight white guy festival? if you're really that proud of something as banal that then by all means! as long you manage to make it not homophobic or racist i don't see why you should have a problem.
makes more sense than getting mad at other people for having a good time, don't you think? chill.
[editline]ok[/editline]
for real what would you even do at such an event? in my mind it'd go something like this:
"so, you're straight?" says straight guy #1, trying to break the awkward silence after realizing they have no injustices to fight.
"yeah dude, straight as fuck!" goes straight guy #2, trying to spice up the party.
"cool, cool" says straight guy #1, nodding in approval and falling back into awkward silence.
People can't ask to not be oppressed then proceed to try and oppress.
Huh? Legitimately confused are you implying that gay people are somehow oppressing straight people?
Why can't straight people be proud of their sexuality? It's not about being discriminatory to gays, it's about being happy who you are.
Cause its disagreeing with ma views!! At least thats why I think they're protesting.
good ol ohio
in other news i wish this actually existed, it's really close i could go to it

Me too. It would be a blast.
are black guys allowed
i would like to attend
Is getting offended like the trendy thing to do nowadays? This was clearly just poking fun. By the way, Ohio seems to have an overabundance of super serious people, especially around where I live. It's a little annoying to have to censor myself constantly.
I fucking despise it when people use the term 'LGBT Community', use a phrase like 'Some LGBT activists' or something.
Nothing more annoying than being associated with these crybabies.
Btw could somebody provide an actual explanation as to why they disagree to this?
It's like referring to 5 or 6 straight people as the 'Straight community' or 'American community'.
