are black guys allowed i would like to attend
Are black women allowed? I'm gay and take no offence to this. We have a gay pride parade every year. Go ahead and have a straight pride parade if you want.
I don't get it I'm a straight white guy and I don't complain about LGBT festivals? [sp]People are too damn sensitive really[/sp]
I think the issue is that LGBT pride exists as a counter to the hate and adversity gay people face, just for being who they are. and although anyone who isnt a fucking moron can see that straight white guys aren't somehow immune to all of the hardships of life, its clear to all that they don't face any for being born that way. Its not so much upsetting as it is irritating, because instead of running around moaning that they don't have a pride movement, they should just be grateful that they don't need one.
Why can't straight people be proud of their sexuality? It's not about being discriminatory to gays, it's about being happy who you are.
you can be happy being straight, the point of the gay pride movement is more about raising awareness that being gay isn't a bad thing but straightness doesn't need this kind of movement does it
Even if it's fucking pointless, I should be able to have a "straight white guy" festival. If I can't, then we aren't equal.
What about forming a "White Straight Guy Festival" takes away from what the LGBT community has already done. We're just expressing the same freedom to collectively exist in a location with a bunch of other people as they are. Holding a festival for a specific group in and of itself assumes that the group is somehow meant to be elevated above the rest of society at that point. If nothing else, I would say that any festival that only includes a specific subsection of society is discriminatory. More importantly, though, saying that the LGBT community can have a festival because they were oppressed in some way, and that the white/straight community can't have a festival because they're relatively left alone is just stupid. Being proud of what you are isn't a result of oppression, it's a result of...well...being proud of who you are. If you like who you are, you should be able to celebrate that without some other community (who by the way feels the same way about themselves and is allowed to celebrate that) getting upset about it. Fighting for equality while not allowing others to equally express themselves is counter productive. What they are inevitably doing is trying to bring attention to themselves (which in turn usually ends up annoying people and causing more of a problem) and bringing attention away from others. The end goal of this appears less to position themselves equally with the rest of society, but instead to get some sort of special treatment as a result of being different. This can be seen pretty obviously by looking at all of the special scholarships and benefits people ask for as a result of them being different. My personal philosophy is that I really don't care at all what you're like. I don't care if you're gay, straight, white, black, hispanic, bi, whatever. I don't think that any of those positions hold some sort of higher ground over the others. Equality is exactly that. Once we start giving people special treatment, people are going to feel left out and discriminated against, whether or not we're giving it to the people who were oppressed before. TL;DR I don't really see how they can hold parades and expect others not to. More importantly, demand others not to. If they are fighting for equality, they should support equal rights, not only rights that benefit them. In that sense, what they are doing is entirely counter productive to their movement.
Snip
Anyone can hold a straight pride parade and no one would stop them so if you want it so bad go fucking do it instead of whining about the imaginary people who trample on your rights by preventing you from doing it. But you don't want it, you just want to complain about how you "can't", just like nobody actually wants a white history month or a white entertainment television, it's just an excuse to bitch
Why can't straight people be proud of their sexuality? It's not about being discriminatory to gays, it's about being happy who you are.
It's probably the location. It's like being at an funeral and loudly declaring that you're proud not to die in car accident. You're likely going to rub people off since they assume that you consider yourself more important than the victim.
are black guys allowed i would like to attend
yes
Are black women allowed? I'm gay and take no offence to this. We have a gay pride parade every year. Go ahead and have a straight pride parade if you want.
yes But only if they're sassy and/or classy, no exceptions. That's just how we straight white guys do it, we go big or we go home. Or something.
All this discussion and debate over what was very obviously a joke. I think you guys are overthinking it a bit.
then go have a straight white guy festival? if you're really that proud of something as banal that then by all means! as long you manage to make it not homophobic or racist i don't see why you should have a problem. makes more sense than getting mad at other people for having a good time, don't you think? chill. [editline]ok[/editline] for real what would you even do at such an event? in my mind it'd go something like this: "so, you're straight?" says straight guy #1, trying to break the awkward silence after realizing they have no injustices to fight. "yeah dude, straight as fuck!" goes straight guy #2, trying to spice up the party. "cool, cool" says straight guy #1, nodding in approval and falling back into awkward silence.
By that logic, a gay pride festival is just a philosophical circlejerk, which we know is not the case. And is anyone here even advocating a white pride event? In all honesty, I don't think people should even really feel pride for being born a certain way, but if people want to stroke themselves over being straight/gay, black/white, or having some sort of ancestry or lineage whatever. Stopping them because you feel its pointless is... pointless. What I was getting at was that certain posters are legimately telling people they can't be proud of certain things but they can be of others, and that's a load of bullshit. This line of thinking always devolves into a fight over just how proud you can be based on how much your people have been mistreated. This type of thinking is stupid and promotes discrimination while also supporting people's victimization (and the occasional persecution complex).
Anyone can hold a straight pride parade and no one would stop them so if you want it so bad go fucking do it instead of whining about the imaginary people who trample on your rights by preventing you from doing it. tbh the more i hear about this hypothetical "white straight guy" festival, the more i want it to actually happen, if only to see how mind-bendingly boring and pointless it would be (if they somehow manage to not turn it into a tirade against minorities, of course!) seriously. go organize it, make it happen. gay people didn't ask anyone for a festival or moan because they didn't have one, they just did it. the only people here with the persecution complex are the dudes who think that gays getting a pride festival to celebrate (and contribute to) their struggle somehow oppresses them. this would be the same as crying injustice at a war vet parade (why do vets get a parade and not me, the guy that's never endured the horrors of war??) because again, it's not about celebrating their identity for the sake of it, it's about celebrating it within a society that still represses their very identities; the act of celebrating prior achievements is in itself a way to fight against inequality! it's an act of defiance towards a heternormative society.
No I'm not lol and I'm also not telling you "you can't be proud!!!" You'd be a much happier human being if you stopped intentionally misinterpreting everything to be a personal attack and making yourself a victim
these are the same guys who read about black history month and go "why don't we have a WHITE history month"?
You'd be a much happier human being if you stopped intentionally misinterpreting everything to be a personal attack and making yourself a victim
Kinda sounds like what the LGBT activists who complained about the fake festival did, eh?
holy shit this actually made the news? oh my god hahahahaha I live in Clintonville and I've been seeing these put up everywhere, the Dispatch reported they were real. Hysterical.
...We couldn't have more jokes. Nope, we had to fight over what exactly pride is. God fucking dammit People. [editline]26th July 2014[/editline] Almost everytime feminism or MRAs or even sexuality gets brought up everyone and their grandma suddenly starts acting like they know what's right.
It'd be really cool if a bunch of people showed up and actually made an impromptu festival.
I'm going to keep an eye open for one of these, they're fucking everywhere down here (esp. north clintonville) If I find one I'll post it

Its dumb because LGBT pride is more about being proud of the accomplishments of the movement and overcoming the persecution of society. Not celebrating the butt sex and sizzling(?). Well from what I gather.
All this discussion and debate over what was very obviously a joke. I think you guys are overthinking it a bit.
It's funny, because all this discussion and debate about it is what caused it to make the news in the first place.
then go have a straight white guy festival? if you're really that proud of something as banal that then by all means! as long you manage to make it not homophobic or racist i don't see why you should have a problem.
Clearly the OP is proof otherwise. [editline]26th July 2014[/editline]
Huh? Legitimately confused are you implying that gay people are somehow oppressing straight people?
No, only the ones bitching about people having a pride festival. [editline]a[/editline] Maybe the issue here is my not giving a shit about whether people are L, G, B, or T. I treat everyone the same, and I never see any difference. Everyone who goes "get back in the kitchen" or some super-sexist shit is always the obvious asshole in the room that nobody wants to be friends with, because being accepting is generally the norm in public. Honestly, I don't even care if you are against LGBT people, keep it out of my face. Unless someone wants a more-than-bff relationship with with someone else, it never comes up in conversation (around me, at least) unless something happens like someone accidentally saying something someone around them finds offensive. I wont say "that's retarded" around special needs children or their parents or people who work with them etc because I'm not an asshole trying to be offensive. I'll conform to people wanting me to stop something if they have a legitimate honest reason to be offended by it, and I just don't see that here. It's like the whole "you can't say that but we can" argument in my eyes. Like, I'm happy for everyone that we're finally making progress in acceptance, but when people turn to me and talk down like condescending cunts because I'm not one of them, I get a little pissed. In this instance, there's all these people preaching equality, and then complaining about the possibility that someone not in their group wants to do what they do. It's like the opening of D12's Fight Music music video in here.
Almost everytime feminism or MRAs or even sexuality gets brought up everyone and their grandma suddenly starts acting like they know what's right.
But I do know what's right, its just that everyone else is too dumb to realize it and therefore its my duty to tell them why everything they think is wrong.
It's funny, because all this discussion and debate about it is what caused it to make the news in the first place.
Its a joke poster pointing fun at people who think we need a white/straight pride event . I however really don't see the point. Heterosexuals haven't been persecuted.. like ever and white people don't need to overcome much discrimination in white majority countries, where most of the people calling for these events live. I really hate how alot of people blame white people for all of their problems, personal and political. They make a good scapegoat.

the dude in this video is obnoxious and retarded holy shit
