A friend of mine got threatened with suspension for making a facebook page about our favourite teacher because someone else insulted the teacher on it. Fucking ridiculous.
I really feel totally alien to American policies and laws, and I feel like a sheep thinking every policy in Finland is perfect because of your stupid bullshit like this.

US is weird, get used to it. Ranging from their politics to their education, it's all seemingly stupid and unnecessary.

yeah blame the whole country for one school's dumbass move real slick
Yes it's stupid bullshit, but that's why we have the ACLU - because without them and groups like them the US would probably be fascist today due to nobody fighting this stupid bullshit.

The joys of "anti-bullying" and "zero tolerance" policies.
One time, a guy punched my friend in the face. My friend stared him down and he walked away. Minutes later, he gets called into the office and suspended for 3 days. The reason? "We have zero-tolerance for violence at this school." It didn't matter that he was the victim, or that he was the only person who got hit anyway... all that mattered was that he was involved in a fight.
At school, my friends and I learned "You're going to get punished anyway, might as well make it worth it." and that is never a healthy way to think... but that's how it went down. From that point on, everyone knew: if someone attacks you, you might as well tear them a new asshole, because either way you're gone for 3 days.
Freedom of teach (typing speech) right here.
This happens more commonly than you'd think, my teacher got fired at the start of last month just for chatting on Facebook with a student. Still fairly absurd though, in no way should your social life be affected by your school/work life.

My school was the same way.
It didn't matter if you were a perpetrator or a victim, if you retaliated or walked it off - if you were involved, in any way, in violence, you were punished.
Was pretty dumb.
As fucked as it is, the girl violated the terms of service and that may have fucked her for any legal action
regardless of what the school did wrong. Her parents or facebook will probably be in more shit then the school for allowing her on there.
Silly school, why do you think your a private government with authority outside of school.
Pretty sure school rules only apply in school and they have no right to keep an eye on what you say in your personal life / time
Solution: Ban kids under age 13 from facebook.
Solution: Ban kids under age 13 from facebook.
yeah good idea, foolproof plan since everyone knows you have to tell the truth in those "enter your age" forms
violation of freedom of speech AND privacy.

if you go on a profile and the pictures are of someone who obviously looks eight years old, remove their profile?
Christian school, just a wild guess.

Then they just need to have parental permission to make an account or have someone over 13 make one for you. The one who makes the account is the one actually liable not the one using it.
