"Good thing feminism wasn't held to this standard before it become an actual thing or it would have died before it ever started." Also I'm going back and saying that this is a really great point.
How could one fight for equality when only focusing on one group? Why not fight for rights for humans, and not solely human females?
Why don't we have hospitals for healthy people? Why don't we have cemeteries for alive people? Why don't we have parking spots for able-bodied peo- oh wait. [editline]17th July 2013[/editline]
Wrong. So wrong. There should be no prioritizing. There should only progress, on all fronts, simultaneously. Saying that something needs to happen first is just plain wrong. Everything should happen at the same time. Saying "women's rights supporters, TAKE THE WHEEL" will never lead to equality, it's just like saying the same for men's right supporters.
"What's this protest about?" "We're against (insert your favorite war) and demonstrating against it." "That's cute. I'm anti-violence. I believe that all violence everywhere is wrong, and that it's wrong to focus on just this war. How can you ignore domestic violence, or bar fights? End it all at once, I say, don't play favorites." And then he goes home. "Do it all at once or don't do it" is not the sort of position that leads to people doing things. SEE ALSO: "there's a clump of plastic bags twice the size of texas in the pacific, why are you picking up garbage," "there's other crimes across town, why are you arresting this particular murderer," "waaaahhhh what about white history month," and all kinds of other patently ridiculous shit
How could one fight for equality when only focusing on one group? Why not fight for rights for humans, and not solely human females?
You kind of halfway made a point but then didn't. Feminism is a movement that fights for the interests of women, there's nothing wrong with particular interest groups. If you only included your first sentence you would have a point, you need to understand what is experienced by the group you claim is not being oppressed on top of the group you claim is being oppressed before you can understand whether something is group specific oppression or just something that happens to everyone. For example, you could perform a study on how partner violence effects men and the rates of it. if you ignore women in your study it looks like there is an epidemic of violence against men, if you include women, you get see similar rates of violence from both sides, if you exclude men and make it a study only looking at women, it then looks like an epidemic of violence against women. I've seen a few too many studies that have been hailed as proof of widespread misogyny which fail to use men as a control group for comparison. On another note I don't really accept the claim that feminism looks out for men's interests, the beneficial changes to society for men as a result of feminism are really more of a byproduct of changes made for the benefit of women rather than an intended result, there are gonna be some issues therefore that are not alleviated by the efforts of feminism. I think if Feminism is a movement for women issues, then you can't reasonably not expect there to be a movement for men's issues. I don't agree with Men's Rights Movements as a response to Feminism though. And I don't support Feminism or MRM.
Idk, I think black rights should have certainly taken priority over white rights. Do you disagree?
wow, that's super racist. white people suffer at least as much as black people. do you have any idea how many times i've been told i can't dance or dunk because i'm white??!?
I still find the "anyone can be a rapist" argument to be hilarious. It's kinda hard not to link rape to men, no matter what you say. Most rapists are men, and rape is an issue involving a deep problem with how we treat gender in society. Rape is built into our society as a mechanism for the oppression of women, and saying that women can rape too moves the subject away from men's aggressions and sexism.
I figure the reason most rapists are men is because of natural causes. Men are by nature a stronger build than women and by nature are filled with more testosterone and that shit isn't to play around with. That's probably where the "She was dressing like a slut and had it coming" thing came from, because the guys who did rape anyone and tried to defend their act with that excuse probably literally feel that way because they got aroused. Doesn't excuse the act in the slightest though and they should of course still serve some good long jailtime for it. Inability to control your urges is pretty fucking uncivilized and as such, you aren't fit for civilized life, as such - jail and rehabilitation. Ta-da.
