I thought it said "workforce" :(
probably needed more space so they can roll their desks to not doing anything
Will the cookies be in the new snack room too?
Wouldn't be too far off if there was a massively rich half-life fan in some saudi arabian city, that decided to hire mercenaries to hijack whatever transport vehicle they're using to transport whatever inhouse servers they've got.
This sounds like the plot to some goofy as fuck action-comedy movie.
Imagine how many people shitposting here would be effected if they ACTUALLY stopped doing anything Anywho, will servers be down for a bit during move? [editline]8th August 2016[/editline]
This sounds like the plot to some goofy as fuck action-comedy movie.
HEAT?
I'm pretty sure someone said that they were moving last year but in the end nothing happened, I wonder if they will leave one floor for all the visitors to show stuff
I'm pretty sure someone said that they were moving last year but in the end nothing happened, I wonder if they will leave one floor for all the visitors to show stuff
That'd be really cool actually.
the third floor will be where they pretend to work on secret unannounced projects
That'd be really cool actually.
I'd have no problem with a floor ala Pixar where it's "The history of Valve" and just be plastered with posters and whatnot. I think they do that already buit it'd be neat to see something dedicated
Valve are being roasted so hard right now Gabe might have to eat it. Also i think they're going to expand their staff into more support / PR people. Knowing valve it'll just be more VR and living room stuff :(
more space to walk in vr and nothing else
I guess they need a bigger vault for all their money
Gabe has been.......expanding
Is that a fat joke? [editline]9th August 2016[/editline] Also my friend works in IT at MOD, literally right down the street from where Valve is gonna be. Crazy.
Well they said they were training support people themselves after trying to outsource it so maybe space for that? though Valve is still making great games, I mean maybe you dont like Dota 2 and CS:GO but they are massively popular, even more popular then Half Life so there is that.
Are they going to have some nifty elevator they can use to have their desks moved up and down the floors?
Well they said they were training support people themselves after trying to outsource it so maybe space for that? though Valve is still making great games, I mean maybe you dont like Dota 2 and CS:GO but they are massively popular, even more popular then Half Life so there is that.
Those are games to make microtransaction money in, though. We want real games. Hats ruined Valve for the common man.
Those are games to make microtransaction money in, though. We want real games. Hats ruined Valve for the common man.
Yes, all those animations, models, game mechanics, those mean nothing, if hats are in it, its not a video game, nobody could possibly like it for being a video game. Those video games are not actually video games because of this one arbitrary reason i disagree with, it devalues literally everything anyone could ever possibly enjoy in these video games and negates everything else in the video game. Because it has hats. Christ.
Those games aren't fun for people like me, though. We want singleplayer games. Multiplayer-centric philosophy ruined Valve for singleplayer fans.
fixed
You could argue that the presence of hats creates incentives that pull players and developers from making good gameplay in favor of addictive gambling and cosmetic elements.
It also pulls incentive for people to continue playing hoping to make trades off of their free shit they get just by playing, whats the point [editline]9th August 2016[/editline] A lot of times I've played tf2/csgo I'm not sure I would've played it so much if there wasn't a way to profit off of spending time in it [editline]9th August 2016[/editline] I've gotten so many games just from things I got playing it lol [editline]9th August 2016[/editline] there's also really nothing wrong with the gameplay [editline]9th August 2016[/editline] plus hats are sent in by community for free by the thousands soooo literally people clamoring over each other to do work for them, it doesn't "take away" anything [editline]9th August 2016[/editline] one of my best friends since middle school has two hats in tf2, he pretty much did all the work with maybe some facepunch friends helping out but valve didn't do anything but put it in the schema which is probably seconds of work
You could argue that the presence of hats creates incentives that pull players and developers from making good gameplay in favor of addictive gambling and cosmetic elements.
I didnt know programmers, level designers, animators, concept artists all sat around and twiddled their thumbs because bob was making some hats. I also must have imagined that mysterious "workshop" thing that Valve put in place so the community could do that for them. Thats insane, btw. [editline]9th August 2016[/editline] Like, i dont play CS:GO all that much, but it plays like Counter Strike, and DOTA 2 i doubt got as popular as it did because it had cosmetics. The games themselves arent suffering.
You could argue that the presence of hats creates incentives that pull players and developers from making good gameplay in favor of addictive gambling and cosmetic elements.
I don't know much about the other games, but I find the TF2 team has been gradually getting better at balancing the game and learning what works and what doesn't. /the very recent update kinda discredits me here but there are theories about competitive players meddling behind the scenes [editline]10th August 2016[/editline] Besides, Valve doesn't make cosmetics. They have a workshop where people submit their shit, all Valve does is shovel that in and pay the respective contributors.
Gabe has been.......expanding
So... that's where Half-Life 3 went. [editline]10th August 2016[/editline]
Those are games to make microtransaction money in, though. We want real games. Hats ruined Valve for the common man.
Those games have no soul compared to the Half-Life series.
Gabe ran out of room for his knives did he?
No Valve ran out of room for Gabe. <3 really though.
Those games have no soul compared to the Half-Life series.
Dude they're competitive multiplayer-focused team games, one explicitly styled after counter-terrorism units, comparing that to a delicately crafted singleplayer experience thats entirely focused on story and characters (in the HL2 half of the series anyway) and saying they have no soul is kind of unfair.
Right, everything external and customer facing is hosted on a variety of cloud and distributed platforms, because anything else is retarded today. Having your own servers in your offices would be used for secure stuff like internal documentation, finances and possibly code version control. But even that can be on external servers if needed. Just keep on the ball with security in that case, pls. They almost certainly need room after room to store the archives of complaints about the Steam client though, I'm sure of it.
Such servers, even for a company like valve do not take up much space. You can fit that much on a single high end rack these days, Valve would fit it's internal use servers in a small room at most I'd bet. Could be wrong though.
Wonder how they are going to move everything if it's going to be in one go or in sections, server wise specifically cause don't they house the master servers or something? God I hope they have tidy cable management :v:
how else is ricochet 2 going to get made?
I think they're going to use the room to make haf life 3.
