Carl Paladino, a co-chair of President-elect Donald Trump's New York campaign, is facing a backlash over crude remarks about Barack and Michelle Obama. Asked by a newspaper what he would most like to happen in 2017, Mr Paladino said he hoped President Obama would die from mad cow disease and the first lady would "return to being a male".
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38423942
what. those weren't even jokes. just. ... what is wrong with people
On Mrs Obama, Mr Paladino said: "I'd like her to return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe where she lives comfortably in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla."
Imagine thinking this is an acceptable answer to "What are your hopes for 2017?"
On Mrs Obama, Mr Paladino said: "I'd like her to return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe where she lives comfortably in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla." The 70-year-old businessman later said his remarks were "about a little deprecating humour which America lost for a long time". And he added: "Merry Christmas and tough luck if you don't like my answer."
Just a little humor, no need to be outraged [sp]/s[/sp]
If he doesn't lose his job, we have 5o be fucked right?
What an ignorant, stupid asshole. Of course he should be under fire for those remarks. What the fuck kind of answer is that to "What would you like to most happen in 2017"? It should be something related to, iunno, "Hey, Trump is a good man, there's a lot of optimism for the next presidency, and I'm expecting [things here that would make Trump look good]". Not this derogatory shit.
They'll fire his son from an unrelated position.
If casual racism, trans-shaming and hoping someone dies is " a little deprecating humour which America lost for a long time" then I honestly don't think we lost anything of value.
pretty pathetic, and I can bet he at least partially believes that as well considering its in such bad taste.
Carl Paladino is scum, his slogan when running for school board director was "I mad as hell too, Carl."
If he doesn't lose his job, we have 5o be fucked right?
"it's just locker room talk"
thought trump had a paladin from the title being cut off for me.
Asked by a newspaper what he would most like to happen in 2017, Mr Paladino said he hoped President Obama would die from mad cow disease and the first lady would "return to being a male".
my expectations of the Trump camp are already lower than rock bottom but damn dude this is some next-level dumb ass shit
It's fucked up when you're the bad guy when running against Cuomo. Shame that the past gubernatorial elections here in New York that the Republicans have nominated shitty candidates like this.
Thats not even casual racism that is whole hearted "black people are literally subhuman" level racism. Like that would make a racist grandpa in 1963 uncomfortable.
What the fuck, Paladino? Is he protected under the First Amendment's Freedom of Speech, joke or not, with these comments? He may arguably be inciting violence with this, but as long as it's not "likely to happen", would it even matter? Shit, I'd feel that the Brandenburg Test isn't enough with shit like this.
sounds like typical daily radio talk show banter
What the fuck, Paladino? Is he protected under the First Amendment's Freedom of Speech, joke or not, with these comments? He may arguably be inciting violence with this
that depends on whether you count "hope he has sex with a cow, contracts mad cow disease, then dies of it" as inciting violence but I don't think that'd hold up in court
I don't think hes inciting violence at all However I'm sure some people will start doing so if this doesn't get addressed. This is just insulting and makes you look like an immature child - and it's probably grounds for being removed from his job hopefully. People like him don't deserve to have jobs like that, and if people feel the same as he does, at least have some logical to not run your mouth to the media about it like some "bad ass"
sounds like typical daily radio talk show banter
What radio talk show are you listening to? Most of the big one's I know of were huge critics of Trumps crassness.
Just a little humor, no need to be outraged [sp]/s[/sp]
The best part will be when Trump says something like this to the wrong foreign leader, causes an international crisis, and just defends his actions by saying it was just a joke.
The whole "Michelle Obama looks like a male" thing is so pathetically low-brow. I've heard wittier attempts at zingers from 4th graders.

Shit, I'd feel that the Brandenburg Test isn't enough with shit like this.
Trump got away with his "Second Amendment people" comment against Clinton during the campaign season. If that stands as a precedent for anything, and we need to start using it as one, then inciting violence is now meaningless; you can do it in vague enough terms, and it's perfectly legal. It would be funny if someone prominent among the protestors on Inauguration Day came out and turned that statement around against him. Having said that, Paladino isn't really inciting violence here. It's not a threat, it's a hopeful statement. You could freely retort with, "I hope Carl Paladino dies from mad cow disease," while we're on the subject. Whether or not he'll lose his job is a different story. Trump got away with his remarks because he has a shitload of money and was running for president. Paladino really isn't that important, so throwing him under the bus for this would not be a tremendous loss, and it would be good press for Trump; he could use it to put on a civilized face. "Mr. Paladino's remarks are totally unacceptable, and I do not condone them. I'm a good person." Etc. That is of course assuming he wants to put on a civilized face. Which given how he didn't really bother calling off his supporters who talked about revolution and assassination at his rallies when he was campaigning, I don't think it really means much to him whether he's seen as civilized.

Good part of Trump's appeal is his openly anti-PC stance, and this is a perfect example of that. I fully expect this level of bantz to surface much more and be used in more official contexts hence. Welcome to the era when you can say literally anything if you label it as a joke.

It will be especially important to attack him personally during the next four years. The man has the ego of a balloon: it needs constant pumping, and it's vulnerable to every pinpricking criticism. He can't even deal with Alec Baldwin's impersonation of him on SNL without suffering massive butthurt. Sad!
At least with that one you can go back and twist the words around to make it sound different. Dude straight up talked shit about veterans, mocked the disabled, and bragged about sexually harassing women and getting away with it because he was famous. If there was a bar for political discourse it has been irrevocably been lowered in 2016
Trump and his campaign won the election by being vile pieces of shit, why should they stop now?
So this is fine, but asking Mike Pence ensure Trump's administration looks after all Americans is horrible harassment, right?
I think it's a little funny because of how absurd it is but imagine thinking this is a cool public answer lol
