So does this mean the hate brigade has to stop whining when they haven't actually used the operating system now? Or are they just going to get even more childish and declare "I HATE WINDOWS 8 BECAUSE IT SUCKS"?
Are all those dumbs because OP made a bad thread, or because people dislike the idea?
OP literally created the thread with a title and "-info coming soon-" or similar, which caused the boxocalypse.
So it's like metro only it's not obnoxiously fullscreen It's like they actually listened!
They listened when people asked for the Start button back and about something for the XBone Microsoft tends to listen I like the metro menu though, I hope I can keep it! edit: Looks like we can, nice!
Apps also comes from "applications", which are defined as "A computer program with an interface, enabling people to use the computer as a tool to accomplish a specific task." It's a stupid thing to sperg out about. I call Chrome, Steam and Photoshop apps because it's easier to say than "program" and means the same thing.
My reply was about him saying there is a difference between the two and seemingly using it to imply that Microsoft is incompetent.
I don't think metro is all that bad. I just don't think it meshes well at all with the typical "expected" experience. Its just jarring for people who aren't familiar with it and it really is confusing at first. I hope they can refine it and make things a little easier for the average user because right now there is absolutely no incentive for offices or casual users to upgrade to it.
Looks a lot better than that pos old start menu
This actually looks like a great mix of both.
So... we'll have the... choice to use either? FUCKING. THANK YOU.
Looks a lot better than that pos old start menu
Looks the same as 7's menu to me? except for the obvious metro on the right but i wasn't counting that
Nah son, Classic Shell Easy access to folders and without the shitty apps I'll never use Highly customizable too go home microsoft
It looks pretty nice but I still don't feel like I need to upgrade from 7.
Like you know, every company that rolls out an update or new product?

Exactly, it means they realized their feature bombed.
These are good points to make, but the thing is, if a company is doing something ONLY to rid bad PR because of horrible things they did, they do NOT deserve another chance. They are NOT doing it to be better, they're doing it for the money. And the only way to make the world a better place when it comes to these companies, is to vote with your wallet.

I don't see how metro+start hybrid works at all, it should be a dropdown menu as it has always worked efficiently as. of course this is too early to judge and they may make it have modes to change from but this is simply my working with what I see. Metro/start hybrid would be great but I don't like it. Either pure metro or pure classic. [editline]2nd April 2014[/editline] [t]http://cdn1.blogsdna.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/windows-7-start-menu-with-run-command.png[/t] the start menu as lord Jesus willed it when he invented it
but I like the Metro screen :c
Metro's perfectly good: if you have a touch screen. Otherwise it was just microsoft 'fixing' what wasn't broken.
Metro's perfectly good: if you have a touch screen. Otherwise it was just microsoft 'fixing' what wasn't broken.
But all of Windows 8 works perfectly fine with a mouse and keyboard.
But all of Windows 8 works perfectly fine with a mouse and keyboard.
It works but it was still a redesign that wasn't necessary. I've used windows 8 on both mouse and keyboard setups and touchscreen setups. Mouse and keyboard, yeah i could use it but was rather annoying, wasn't a matter of 'adjusting' to it either. On the touchscreen it was glorious, i loved it. It made sense when on a touchscreen setup.

Cause, ya know, I've had the misfortune of using it on more than one occasion. Will not be upgrading to it.
You DO know that they're doing this ONLY to get positive voices back.
ahahaha holy shit how do you run a company without doing shit that would garner positive review that's literally the point of maintaining and updating your products they fully admitted they fucked things up for the community and finally worked up a feature to appease all the complaints while maintaining their new system styling (for better or worse) if people complain that it's the utilities that used to be on the right they really wanted, that's been hidden as right click functionality right under your nose since 8's release
What gets me about these threads is usually that people sometime forgive microsoft and get all "oh i might actually use this system now".
What disappoints me the most about Windows 8 is whenever I drop back to Windows 7 I miss nothing about 8. There is no Windows Store app that I use (besides the things like mail and skype ones are beyond broken for me, even checked recently and there is no improvement), I barely touch the new stuff Windows 8 has because there is no point. I'm also using it since the pre release versions and Microsoft decided that two weeks ago it was a great idea to send a "Welcome to Windows 8" email :v:.
The feature i miss the most is mounting of the goddamn .iso files when i go back to 7.
You realize that you can't really interact with the rest of the screen with the old start menu up right? But you can bring both up and away quickly, so there's little to no functional loss to making it full screen.
Speaking of functionality how does the start screen work on different resolutions? On my tablet it's three rows of tiles. Would it be more on, say, a 2560x1440 monitor which is approximately twice the size in each direction? And what about multiple monitors too? Does it only show up on the primary or does it show tiles on the others as well?

People use the "right click start" argument and it's rubbish.

Opens only on the monitor you are currently on.
They listened when people asked for the Start button back
Who the fuck asked for the start button back? It's completely useless if you don't have the classic menu.
This is NOT a start menu, it's a crappy static right click context menu. People use the "right click start" argument and it's rubbish.
So what extra features does a button called "Control Panel" add in start menu that don't exist in the context menu? Or do you posses a mouse without the right button?
It's a good job that it's optional. The start screen is a million times better than the start menu.
So what extra features does a button called "Control Panel" add in start menu that don't exist in the context menu? Or do you posses a mouse without the right button?
Ability to have your own icons on the left and useless items hidden on the right. Are you for real or just messing with me?
if people complain that it's the utilities that used to be on the right they really wanted, that's been hidden as right click functionality right under your nose since 8's release
I'm a Windows 8 user, but to play devil's advocate, that's exactly the kind of thing that's annoying about Windows 8, that everything is hidden and unintuitive. I'm a power user, so I had read a lot articles about Windows 8 when it came out, so I knew how to do everything, but it was still an annoying learning curve.
What gets me about these threads is usually that people sometime forgive microsoft and get all "oh i might actually use this system now". So that's all it takes for you to sell your trust in a company? You DO know that they're doing this ONLY to get positive voices back.
So you're basically saying that once Microsoft makes a mistake people should permanently put them on their shitlist? That's fucking stupid. For many of us the fucktarded tablet-oriented UI is the only reason we don't like W8. I'm in that group myself. And now that there's more or less a start menu in the OS to begin with my main reason for refusing to use W8 is now gone. Of course I still hate the UI but it's useable to me now. I'm not 100% against using W8 on my machine anymore.
While the idea of desktop lists and tiles is kinda cool, it's pointless if that tile isn't a live tiles, like the small tiles have the same amount of use (or less if that program has a jump list) as the regular entry. Regardless what used to be on right isn't needed if you have file explorer's and control panel's jump list. When is the last time you needed to batch reprogram default programs or needed to open windows' awful help and support?
