People making shitty jokes please remember that a lot of friends, family members, and other people who live in the city are losing their homes and a lot of their possessions over this.

I think they put the tigers and lions into holding cells in the courthouse.

A moment of silence for the bears who lost their lives in this terrible tragedy.....
Bears; The commonly forgotten zoo animal.

as the king of my people i can say that the russians are assholes
I'm worried about this stormfront hitting Toronto, since it's already flooded Calgary and Winnipeg, and it makes me really glad I live up a hill.
Can confirm. I had some family members get evacuated near downtown Calgary. 10 minutes north got hit hard with rain too but we had no floods here in Airdrie.
Also one of my gaming buds got deployed out here to help out apart of the Canadian Forces.
Glad I live in the north end of the city.
Repairing the city is going to be a bitch though. Here's a picture of the Saddledome which is flooded in:

With all the damage of the Dome, they might have to tear it down. Maybe we will get a proper stadium and get more events coming to Calgary.
Southern Alberta's getting hammered, hows the University area? I visit it once a year. Pretty constant rain in Edmonton but looks like we're just catching the edge of the storm and the river is sunk low into the ground unlike calgary, less of a worry though some small areas have been getting flooded this year nothing on this scale though :(
Now Medicine Hat is getting hit since they are down river. They may have to close the Trans-Canada bridge which would split the city in half.
What's going to make this really bad in Medicine Hat is that the flooding is mostly going to affect low income neighbourhoods, and it's going to be the third time in four years those neighbourhoods have flooded.
The National Post is now reporting that 65,000 people now have the green light to return home. Their graphics department also came up with this handy chart for the flood scale:

As for the military, they're the only folks with the gear to handle situations like this. They have a long history of disaster relief, such as helping with flooding in Quebec, and the Ice Storm of '98.

Bit of an update, seems the rivers are done peaking. Stampede grounds have (mostly) dried up, and there's tons of awesome calgary-area-bros that are going around pumping out peoples' basements and houses that are flooded for free. such is the canadian way
