They won't be in the commonwealth games anymore :'((((
Don't believe you have to acknowledge Her Maj to be part of the Commonwealth.
When's it gonna be our turn?
When's it gonna be our turn?
Why would you want to get rid of the Queen :(
Who cares about the empire anymore?
Noone. What is almost humorous to me is how a Frenchman gloats in a thread about his country's biggest riva- Oh, I could come up with something with a more thought but what would be the point. I hate France. Sorry guys.
Good. The sooner we forget the Empire happened, the better.
Well it's not like much happens in the Commonwealth. The only good thing about it is the games. [editline]7th January 2012[/editline]
Good. The sooner we forget the Empire happened, the better.
It's not really even an empire any more.
Looks like it's time for you to invade again.
Ahem, Monroe Doctrine...
Then they all forgot about the entire thing because the entire island blazed up for a month.
Jamaica still has ties to Britain? I thought they were pretty much a sovereign state.
I thought this as well, guess you learn something new every day.
They won't be in the commonwealth games anymore :'((((
I am sure they would remain a member of the commonwealth, it's happened when other countries have become republics (India is a prime example). [editline]7th January 2012[/editline]
Good. The sooner we forget the Empire happened, the better.
Why would people want to forget what is when it comes down to it pretty much the greatest achievement of GB.
[editline]7th January 2012[/editline] Why would people want to forget what is when it comes down to it pretty much the greatest achievement of GB.
Because we were assholes, man.
They are independent. They just recognise the Queen as their monarch. She holds no real power over the country, as it's membership of the Commonwealth is voluntary.
But is it like canada with the symbolic and pointless post of Governor general?

[editline]7th January 2012[/editline] Why would people want to forget what is when it comes down to it pretty much the greatest achievement of GB.
having what is possibly the largest empire of all time IS a pretty impressive achievement (I forget whether the Roman Empire was larger though)
Why would you want to get rid of the Queen :(
Regardless of how much effective power the monarch has, it's a position of authority derived from bloodline, and that's not right.
having what is possibly the largest empire of all time IS a pretty impressive achievement (I forget whether the Roman Empire was larger though)
No it was the largest ever. I'm proud to have had been born here, even though I did nothing to contribute :v:
Regardless of how much effective power the monarch has, it's a position of authority derived from bloodline, and that's not right.
They have no effective power, they're ceremonial at the most, that's kind of the point of a constitutional monarchy.. Any way all the cool countries have them, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and even Japan
jamaicans are the best dancers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2nmgcVbfKE [editline]h[/editline] ugh fuck embedding disabled
Uhm
That's Major Lazer for you.
The fuck they are. They're ours.

Why do they or their family deserve that kind of security when no other citizen does?
What right does the royal family have to be born into a position of authority by default?
having what is possibly the largest empire of all time IS a pretty impressive achievement (I forget whether the Roman Empire was larger though)
Our empire was much bigger than the Roman empire, Canada, India and Australia were all bigger than the Roman empire alone.
They won't be in the commonwealth games anymore :'((((
Lets hope so, we might actually win something for once!
When's it gonna be our turn?
When it stops being profitable for us. People love to see royalty. They're willing to spend money to do it and they love to spend money to remember it. I remember when the royal couple visited Ottawa last summer. Every hotel in the city was booked solid. It was great for the local economy.
Our empire was much bigger than the Roman empire, Canada, India and Australia were all bigger than the Roman empire alone.
Genghis Khan had the biggest of all time
Far as I know, Jamaica is in a similar situation to Australia where we recognise them as our head of state but they have virtually no influence on our politics whatsoever Good for Jamaica
Whats wrong with being part of the common wealth?
Because it means that we are your bitch. Nobody wants to be someone else's bitch.
ITT: Angsty republicans.
Because it means that we are your bitch. Nobody wants to be someone else's bitch.
Except being part of the common wealth doesn't make a country our bitch, most countries in it are completely sovereign
Two things will come of this. Jamacia will become poorer and they won't be allowed to get easy immigration into the uk. Good job Jamacia, i'm sure my jamacian friend is right behind you!
