This kid is incredibly lucky. He takes a digital clock, jams it into a poker chip case, and boom he gets scholarships and meets the president.
Do you not see how stupid it is that this boy got massive publicity and a free ticket to prestigious institutions because he pulled off that little stunt of his, while thousands of other students who are likely many times smarter than he is struggle to get through the education system without bankrupting their families?
i can sympathize with what you're going through here, but getting fussy about a single child's education isn't going to make the education of those other thousands of children any better. the fact that we're always so myopically obsessed with delusions of fairness is probably one of the reasons that we've yet to make necessary reform. if you want things to change, write your representative and vote in the 2016 election. if you don't want things to change and just want to satisfy your amygdala, then advocate for taking an education out of the hands of a child with no net benefit to you, me, or anyone else.
Those people got paid less than 2 dollars an hour for 13 hour days in incredibly dangerous working conditions. At least 5 workers died building it.
Poor fellas, making an adjusted $28.50 an hour, which at 13 hour days 5 days a week would be $96,330 a year. Iron working is a valuable skill that pays. Union Iron workers today make $31.50 an hour.
Those people got paid less than 2 dollars an hour for 13 hour days in incredibly dangerous working conditions. At least 5 workers died building it.
You know for 1900's statistics 5 people dying for a building like that is pretty incredible.
I don't think people are getting the point. It's not the fact that he cracked open a clock and put it in a slightly different container, it's that he got arrested for that. It's like how all Malala Yousafzai did was get shot on a bus. It's the fact she got shot on that bus for a retarded reason.
There's a dozen cases of American schools dropping the ball super hard and ending up suspending, suing or adding kids to the sex offender registry based on completely stupid shit. A kid got sued by a teacher this week for throwing a carrot at him, for crying out loud. Some kid being given shit by a school for something stupid isn't new. Even if it's racially motivated, it's not a case of society being rotten to its core and more a case of the school system being balls deep retarded. Besides, the chances of this being racially motivated are minimal, because the school system in America is known for doing stupid shit like that to anyone who goes ever so slightly out of line. Since the US is one of the most ungodly racist places on earth to begin with people immediately started looking for racial prejudice so that the story fits within their own little world of the authority hating a minority, even when it's actually irrelevant.
