We should help ourselves and forget the fuckin' animals. Once the animals start contributing the field of medicine and donating money to help us then we can start helping them back. It's a foolproof plan.
Testosterone everywhere
but there's humans out there
Let them rot.
Lion power. Fag.
That's really sweet...
But...Surely the money could be sent to better causes?
It often annoys me how inconsistent people are on the internet. They save a lion because of cute pictures taken of it (not that it isn't cute!), but there's humans out there that need the money far more... But there's no cute pictures of them.
I want to make it clear, I'm not trying to rain on one's parade. This is a very nice thing to do. But I can't help but feel so much money put into this when it could be used to help... Humans.
A lot of people would much rather see animals live on and prosper over humans. We're a destructive species. Compare it to this; What has that Lion done wrong to the world and what have we? Just by us developing almost everything we're slowly destroying this world as it was.
That's the way I see it anyway.

You forgot to add how humans are breeding constantly and overpopulating.
And umm, OH, we like to kill things that don't breed often.
Hey check it out guys I'm a human!

Fuck lions, they're bunch of assholes anyway. Not even lions like lions.

Humans adapt. We have been utilizing new technologies since our dawn.
When a few million proved too much a strain for hunter gathering, we switched to farming.
We used irrigation. We rotated the crops, invented tools. We grew crops on larger scales and invented ever more ways to increase efficiency. The industrial revolution came and freed people from the feudal system.
Whatever problem humans face, we will invent something to fix it. Now stop being so pessimistic and thinking that your own kind is awful, in reality humans are the greatest product this planet has come up with.

what has a lion done for the world that's good
fuck Lions Lions can eat my dick
we have fucking science and make discoveries
hell, billions of years from now, if we haven't fucked ourselves out of existing, we could be somewhere else in the universe, or everywhere in the universe
are you saying you'd trade that up so that some meaningless asshole species can spend another million or so years before they extinct the shit out of themselves
besides eventually this planet will be hitting the shitter anyway so fuck it

I like how your perceiving past problems to have anything to do with overpopulating a planet.
You forget that in this day and age, and with every approaching day, that humans are now living longer life spans. We have no restrictions on population control, leading to television shows featuring mommy's with over 18 kids, not to mention one very obvious mental disorder.
This is such a recent development, and yet there is so many people with this mirror in front of them (such as yourself) who parade the mindset that its all OKAY.
I will probably die before I have to worry about things becoming unbearable on this Earth.
But I'm empathetic enough to refuse spawning another pitiful person who would inevitably witness the crashing of the reality we have become so adjusted to.
Resources. That is all it truly comes down to.

you guys better get to making Mars habitable or killing a bunch of motherfuckers or we're fucked
Since when did using pronouns necessitate "bothering" at all?
I don't care whether an animal is a boy or girl and the animal doesn't either. I'm not going to take the time to figure out what gender an animal is and I'm not going to hesitate when calling it an "it", since it doesn't matter.
It also bothers me that you hate people for saying something arbitrary. It's sets a bad precedent and I'd prefer irrationality to be shunned, since it only leads to problems.
fuck this thread is full of stupidity
people insist on categorizing EVERYONE and EVERYTHING like it's the way of the world
@JgcxCub
-people on the internet (which is infact a microcosm) have wildly varying opinions about which is more worth putting money towards - innocent useless animals, or potentially useful (or not) people
@redbadger
-big fuckin deal. hundreds (or thousands, whatever) of species go extinct every day for natural reasons. have you personally ever caused a species to go extinct? I haven't. i'm not obligated to do shit for animals that i've had no part in bringing closer to extinction, personally
@B!N4RY, thisguy0
-because some people would prefer to save a dumb cute "innocent" lion than an "innocent" stranger that they've never met, likely will never meet, and cannot know will ever contribute anything of importance to the world. which is funny because the lion definitely won't contribute anything either except being cute and inevitably dying sooner
@blade_raider
-this is exactly what I'm talking about, gross generalization on all sides. there are so many questions i don't even know where to start.
what do you define as wrong? if the lion lived in the wild (I'm certain taht the people who donated would do the same if the lion was a wild cat) it would eat animals alive and cause many creatures to die in agony. on the other hand, some people save lives and ease suffering just because they're passionate about doing so. conversely some people do awful things like murder and destroy the environment whilst lions just do fuck-all. so how can you clearly define right and wrong when you're speaking in such ridiculously generalized terms?
again i'll point this out: who's "we"? is it reasonable to say that you or I are actively taking part in "slowly destroying this world" simply by living in a society that other people have established before us? if that's true, shouldn't you leave all vestiges of civilization behind you and go live in the wild so that you're no longer taking part in it?
when i think of humanity the first phrase that comes to mind is "fucked up" because while yes, we do incidentally fuck up the environment, kill one another, and a bunch of other terrible things, we're also intelligent, capable of doing amazing things when we want to, and most people are "good" people
@ sobotnik
-so what? I'll agree that for the most part scientific progress is a good thing, but everything you just listed doesn't prove anything. humans adapt? CROWS adapt. with new technologies, metallurgy, bigger populations, came better ways to kill each other and bigger wars. with the discovery of the new world, entire cultures were destroyed in mere decades. with the industrial revolution, an entire new type of poverty was created. every single thing that can be viewed as fantastic has a less-than-fantastic side that is often overlooked. generalizations everywhere. the notion that humans are the greatest thing that this planet has ever produced is entirely a matter of opinion
@ mister sandman
-so what's so great about humanity spreading across the universe? what if we turn into total assholes like the borg and just want to assimilate everything, reliant on computers to live (which given how we are already I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL)
what if humans go extinct in a thousand years and twenty million years later the descendents of lions become intelligent and form a much better civilization than we ever had?
loads of words that would stretch the page if quoted.
You are very pessimistic.

If I knew Lions would become an intelligent species with a better civilization I'd probably root for them, but I don't and they've made no signs of doing so ever. All I want is for an intelligent species (us) to make as many scientific discoveries as possible. Also what's to say intelligent Lions don't become asshole borg type things too? I can't beat down my species for something I don't know will happen.
You are very pessimistic.
would you care to elaborate
Yeah lions are cute and endangered, but not worth the money imo.
That's all well and good, but what the hell you don't see people doing this for homeless people that are starving to death or dieing from some shitty disease. It could be some people's fault for fucking up and becoming homeless, but still yet...
[editline]23rd July 2011[/editline]
It costs $12,500 a month? That's a lot of money..
And that could go toward helping desolote people in bad conditions, yet they try to help and animal that will probably be dead by the time technology can solve the problem of paralysis.
[editline]23rd July 2011[/editline]
We're all part of the biosphere, humans and lions alike.
We've already, as a species, destroyed countless other species of animals and their habitat. Thinking only about our own kind is pretty selfish, especially after all we've done to them.
That makes you sound like a dick and that you don't care that 4 billion of your own kind are in shitty ass conditions and are dieing every day, maybe you should think about your own species more asshole.
