It's almost as big as a football field. This does not look good, folks.
You said it, chewie. I've got a bad feeling about this.
Well shit, February 15th is my birthday.
I just realized something. In metro 2033, the apocalypse happened in 2013. :tinfoil:
I just realized something. In metro 2033, the apocalypse happened in 2013. :tinfoil:
oh SHIT
oh SHIT
EVERYONE, TO MOSCOW!
Even then, as long as it didn't hit anything populated, it'd probably burn away and then just be a really big, really hot space rock that landed on the ground.
actually you're more likely to get a frostbite from an asteroid that's just landed than burn yourself the more you know
Chances are it'll fall into the ocean anyway, 78% of our planet is covered in water
Then you get Tsunami.
I just realized something. In metro 2033, the apocalypse happened in 2013. :tinfoil:
Though it was nukes, not big ass rocks being hurled towards us.

It's only 60 meters, nothing to really shit your pants about...
It's only 60 meters, nothing to really shit your pants about...
until it lands on your head the moment that new game you want so badly comes out.
It's only 60 meters, nothing to really shit your pants about...
60m is massive.
Will most likely hit the ocean. If it hits an unpopulated area and someone is near enough to film it hit, that would be excellent though. EDIT: Actually, that would be fucking bad if this hit land, considering that the Tunguska meteor was roughly 50-100 meters.
If it hits the ocean, it will create massive tidal waves that will kill thousands
Fuck no, I can't die a virgin.
its ok you can have sex with me :)
I wonder how much rock a nuke can turn into powder/vapour. I guess there are two big problems with nuking it though... Firstly, setting a nuke off in space disables, like, all the satellites. And secondly, non of our ICBMs are configured for nuking space rocks, and like their names suggest, are ballistic, so guidance to get one close enough might be a problem. Therefore, there would need to be some serious guidance software and possibly payload design work done before we could nuke it even if we wanted to.

Very high intensity IR is enough to do some serious damage, even to rock.
oh wow don't even be worried about this 99.97800000% chance the asteroid will miss the Earth http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/ip?2.2e-04
1 in 4500 is still high by meteor standards.
60m is massive.
It is pretty damn big, but it's not a world-ender like many people here seem convinced.
It is pretty damn big, but it's not a world-ender like many people here seem convinced.
Yep, if your within a decent radius to it then your fucked but other than that everything will pretty much be dandy unless it smashes into a volcano or something stupid.
1 in 4500 is still high by meteor standards.
Well, by torino scale its a 0. "The likelihood of a collision is zero, or is so low as to be effectively zero. Also applies to small objects such as meteors and bodies that burn up in the atmosphere as well as infrequent meteorite falls that rarely cause damage."
The chances of it hitting a populated area is pretty slim if you consider that pretty much 2/3 of the surface of the earth earth is water and most of the land is unpopulated. But if it did hit a major city it would be a catastrophe, like a large H-bomb going off right over it, scary shit.
It's only 60 meters, nothing to really shit your pants about...
The power of the impact would resemble a nuclear bomb, but it's not going to hit us regardless.
Fear mongering attempt is successful.
The power of the impact would resemble a nuclear bomb, but it's not going to hit us regardless.
Imagine if it hit the moon. That would look awesome from down here.
Third, you won't even do anything to it since there is no atmosphere to transfer the concussive force, and space rocks can't die from cancer.
What a nuke would do however is make the rock highly radioactive, which is just slightly counter-productive.
Asteroid is radio controlled by neo nazi aliens.
