something along these lines is posted several times in each thread like this
I'm sorry! I feel bad for laughing at the title.
and fuck this i'm not even going to bother, this will result in one side of the argument calling the other blood thirsty whilst the other calls them dumb for 10 pages until someone gets banned and thread is closed.
I mean, does a 4 year old even know what gay is?
and fuck this i'm not even going to bother, this will result in one side of the argument calling the other blood thirsty whilst the other calls them dumb for 10 pages until someone gets banned and thread is closed.
in other words, you don't have a valid argument
Sounds like a plot to a horror movie.
in other words, you don't have a valid argument
A lot of the time threads just boil down to "Yes it is" "No it's not", where both sides understand the other's point of view and just disagree with it. And then it gets really dreadfully boring.
I think everyone should have the ability to leave an argument under such circumstances without being branded the loser
obviously a mentally disturbed man

not really
if he actually brings up some points rather than just saying "it's dumb" I'll respond to them
The most important right on Earth is the right to life. It is an inviolable right and can NEVER be forfeited through one's actions. Capital punishment can never be justified because it deprives a man—needlessly—of his most important right, the right to live.
Exactly what does capital punishment contribute to the society? If a murderer gets executed it will not undo their crimes. It will not bring back their victim to life, it will just take an extra person from their life. If the desired effect is discouraging other people to do the same crime then it clearly doesn't work. Take for example the U.S., the ONLY western country which still uses this method. Do they have less murders per capita than other western countries? No, the murder rate in U.S. is either on par with or above other western countries.
What makes it okay for the state to murder another person to show that murdering is wrong? It's double standards, really. The state does not have the right to decide whether you should be allowed to live or not.

I'm sorry, but that's not how debates work. You can either concede, or adjourn and come back later, but you can't just leave and say "nope it's my opinion you can't criticize me".
i'm gay and i live an hour from dunham
great :(
I'm sorry, but that's not how debates work. You can either concede, or adjourn and come back later, but you can't just leave and say "nope it's my opinion you can't criticize me".
We have to add another option, which is not on the level of concession of defeat.
I'm going to create a hypothetical situation, and I'm not comparing anyone in this thread to anyone in my situation. Imagine you're debating with a complete buffoon who refuses to accept that he's wrong, and has every intention to continue in this way. If you throw your hands in the air and say "I give up!" is that a concession of defeat?
An argument doesn't have to continue until someone loses.
I'm quite certain that this isn't a "debate" by any means, in fact it's really rare that facepunch manages to have intellectual debates whereby both sides respect eachothers beliefs.
People are free to leave when they already know how this little argument will turn out eventually.
I understand that a well-reasoned debate is rarely possible, but the very least Melnek could do if he's going to leave is not be ridiculous about it with the whole "no that's dumb" argument he put up at the end.
Only in America... And Africa... And the middle east. Civilized west? Europe seems to be where it's at these days. I'm not surprised, shocked or taken by surprise in any way. It's a fucked up nation anyway. Hatred and bigotry runs thick in the streets like tar, Stifling anyone who's not born to rich or influential parents.
Poor kid. What a sick deprived fuck!
you are in denmark, I don't think you are entitled to use such mouthwatering imagery about the level of hate in America.
Honestly, its not that killing is terrible at all under the right circumstances.
I think killing a person can be entirely justified.
For example, if someone killed my father and mother. I would not hesitate to kill him given the chance.
You didn't actually offer a justification, you just said you'd do it.
I also like how you equate having your daughter killed to "making me angry". Try, "permanently altering my life, my emotional state, and, oh yeah, killing my child".
No I didn't equate those at all.
Unless it was the government's kid that was killed
Johnny didn't ever really say anything about a situation where YOU killed the killer of YOUR daughter. You brought that up.
Not all murders are equal, the motive for a murder can and will affect the sentence. In the case of retributive justice, i.e. killing the killer of your child in sheer rage, you would probably receive a more lenient sentence.
If you murder a murderer in a blind rage right after you witness them committing it, you could easily have that passed off as voluntary manslaughter
But after the person is arrested and in prison there is absolutely no excuse for killing them, for either an individual or the state
Johnny didn't ever really say anything about a situation where YOU killed the killer of YOUR daughter. You brought that up.
Exactly. The post I was responding to was attempting to justify the death penalty, not revenge killings.
I like that this thread turned into a flame war, these idiots should be banned.

Flaming is something like "you're an insufferable twat!", what's happening here is "your ideas appear as though they are forged in the mind of an insufferable twat!", it's different.

There's this dude, name's Barrack Obama. Commander in chief of one of the most prosperous nations on earth, maybe you've heard of him. His mother was an activist, a teacher, and a few other things. Didn't have much political influence at all. His father was a kenyan who happened to earn a scholarship to a university in Hawaii where he met the formerly defined woman. Having influential parents can definitely improve your chances of, or even guarantee that you succeed in life, however if you put your mind to something and are lucky enough to achieve it, you can go pretty damn far. America is not a shithole. There are racists, bigoted, and religious idiots. Admittedly probably more than in many other comparable countries. Many of these idiots decide to do atrocious bullshit like the stuff listed in this article. However to assume that it's the norm, to assume that every day one runs into bigots and racists on a regular basis solely because of news articles is frankly flawed.

Well, I feel terrible now.
its funny because this is just most major religions on a different scale.

I'll make use of something i said earlier on the issue.

Most people tend to use the US as "OMG ALL RELIGIOZ RETURDS!" because, outwards it seems that this is all there is to that country. The people who are sensible are too busy living a well-balanced, normal, sane and best of all QUIET life to bother raising their voice in defence of the image of their country. Why bother? They can't out scream such a heavy concentration of pure ignorance and determination. USA is generally seen as stupid because that is what we are allowed to see. Luckily for them, their most redeeming character is their current president. When bush was around, no one was even giving a shit about them. Now we have some hope.
Separation of church and state in the US is just there for show. It's a big fat fucking illusion. Sure it's separated on paper. but in practice, because of all those retards that yell and scream religious bullshit, it's not separated. We get inbreds in state governments making religious laws with religious reasons. Welcome to fucking medieval Europe. Enjoy your citizenship and no rights.
America was meant to be the country where you could be yourself, individual without people throwing shit at you. Now it's joined the middle east as a place where being yourself is a "Big mistake asshole! Not in my Uhmurica!".
The only reason that USA hasn't earned the "Third world nation" stamp already is because of their military and their cultural significance in media and entertainment. It's a matter of time now. sadly. I hope we'll see changes for the better. I had such high hope when Obama took office. That hope dwindled when healthcare was apparently satanism. Well fuck. Ace logic there Droopy!
I'm sorry if I'm getting a bit verbally violent. I just think the world is ass-backwards when it still holds on to America being the best the world has to offer. This hasn't been true since the 1920's and when people actually decided to improve it in the 60's, they were just shut down by butt-hurt, stock-up country-folk with their hunting riffles and nigger-bludgeons too far up their ass. Meanwhile, people lost their legs and lives shooting at "Damn Chinks" in another war that no one gave a nautical shit about. Sound familiar?

It's not a norm to be a retarded bigot. But it's acceptable and that in and of itself is disgusting. It's a norm to look the other way. it's a norm that anything Jesus related is insta-legal. It's a norm to let right/left wing fanatics run a country with election campaigns looking more like a streetbrawl than views and passions for a nations well-being. It's a country where the law is outdated by 210 years and everyone is to goddamn patri-fucking-otic to see it and even address it. All th
What exactly makes these things OK when it's America, but all ass-backwards everywhere else? I don't see it. I'm piss tired of the double-standard that it portrays internationally. While the cause is admirable and well-meaning, it doesn't mean much to anyone when it comes from where it's coming from right now.
Americas greatest problem is its botched attempt at cultural tolerance which resulted in a fuckton of intolerance and respect of other peoples private lives, ethics and perspectives. It failed, time for some damage control please or step down from the world throne. I'm tired of my country being run by a country that is below our living standards. I'd much rather if everyone could learn something from us and improve their lives doing so. But no, it's Sociatanism!!!

I guess you're actually referring to the drawings? If so, good job judging the most educated, tolerant and statistically most happy, safe and drunk nation in the world.
Sorry, our minor problems do not rival a culture soaked in prejudice and need for control. Individualism is cool and all. Just not when it progresses onto egoism.
At least we do not let shitheads run our state, passing anti-gay, anti-abortion and anti-intelligence laws every day, do we? we don't have millions of people voting against a man because he's black or for him because he seems "most christian". Mainly because we do not let certifiably insane people vote.
No offense to sane religious people, you guys are individuals of outstanding moral and logical fiber. Besides, everyone is religious when their situation is dire enough.
