Oh god another bandwagon is being formed on facepunch.
Yeah, I hate facts and opinions too.
Attention! Gonna repost this because it's important to know. http://wow.joystiq.com/2009/04/12/activision-blizzard-is-not-blizzard/ Blizzard is not Activision-Blizzard.
Yeah, I hate facts and opinions too.
Just you wait. When a thread pops up about starcraft or diablo or something. Somebody is going to mention "BLIZZARD ARE JERKS" in the thread and it's because of this thread and the newspost spreading ignorance.
I never got to see the videos. :frown: Are they reuploaded anywhere?
For goodness, sake doesn't these people know using copyrighted name without permission is bound to get you into a lawsuit.
The World of Warcraft map for Warcraft III never got anyone in trouble. Why, you may ask?
[img_thumb]http://shufflingdead.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Bobby-Kotick.jpg[/img_thumb]
Blizzard has turned into a really horrible company since they combined with Activision.
yeah but it was shit @ MrFish
Blizzard should have taken the high road and invited the modder (or modders) to join Blizzard and to develope WoS.
Next stop: Vimeo
Just rename it to Galaxy of Starcraft. See if they come at him again.
The two may as well be one in the same now. It's not like the Blizzard devs would personally be involved in finding and shutting down unapproved 3rd party mods of their games. That's something that happens on the legal/executive level, which is the driving force behind Activision and Blizzard these days.
wasn't there a lawsuit just a couple years ago that worked the same where the actual development company didn't care but there was nothing they could do about it because the publishers owned the IP? (edit: i think it was a halo rts or mod for an rts or something, bungie didn't care and somewhat embraced it, microsoft pissed a turd) so...what makes Activision and Blizzard any different? [editline]19th January 2011[/editline]
yeah but it was shit @ MrFish
this project is/was way too early to be anything but shit, as well, so that's irrelevant.
I don't understand what the big deal is. Some dick from Activision was like HURR COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL on YouTube, so that somehow bears the same meaning as a cease and desist letter? No, not at all. He didn't receive a cease and desist letter for his mod, he simply got videos of his mod removed from YouTube--which may or may not be more of an automated process, not to mention that Activision-Blizzard isn't actually Blizzard. All this is coming down to is "Oh no my videos have been removed from YouTube! SHUT. DOWN. EVERYTHING." Boo hoo, that doesn't change anything.
Upload a Starcraft 2 gameplay video to Youtube and you'll find that it won't get taken down. This video was taken down, even though it was of the exact same game. Now, why would Starcraft 2 game footage be okay and encouraged, while this video isn't. Because it shows a SC2 mod that Blizzard probably doesn't approve of.
Wait a sec, Starcraft AND a MMO? a Korean gamers dream.
I think I remember what you're talking about. If it's the one I'm thinking of some guys were making a Halo mod for Command and Conquer Generals and they got shut down and then literately the very next day they announced Halo Wars or whatever.
Fuck, blizzard is probably making WoS (World of Starcraft) to live alongside WoW. The guy should sue blizzard for the name and make them buy it off him.
Blizzard's next-gen MMO is now World of Starcraft, confirmed.
Blizzard's next-gen MMO is now World of Starcraft, confirmed.
I would actually love to play that.
Blizzard has turned into a really horrible company since they combined with Activision.
Oh shut up already. You dont know what you're talking about.
Next stop: Vimeo
if you spent 5 minutes on Vimeo it would be pretty clear they don't accept gameplay footage
if you spent 5 minutes on Vimeo it would be pretty clear they don't accept gameplay footage
they don't? Halo 3 http://vimeo.com/10715583 StarCraft II http://vimeo.com/18168209 Team Fortress 2 http://vimeo.com/7357626 Penumbra: Overture http://vimeo.com/6445973 Unreal Tournament 2004 http://vimeo.com/6587504 are these not gameplay videos or something

Activision-Blizzard pretty much controls all the rights.
Blizzard has turned into a really horrible company since they combined with Activision.
Agreed, they were really friendly with their community and didn't constantly do desperate grabs for money from their players before they combined with Activision. Now we have buyable $25 horses along with $10 pets in WoW.
they don't? Machinima with a story is allowed, provided the story is more than "guys doing exactly what the game was made for (eg skateboarding or shooting people)". Machinima videos must be properly labeled as such in the video description to avoid accidental deletion.
those videos have such a minuscule amount of views Vimeo's staff probably doesn't even know about them
The World of Warcraft map for Warcraft III never got anyone in trouble. Why, you may ask?
that was a custom map.
that was a custom map.
So is this WoS project. What difference would it make, anyway? Both were made with tools that Blizzard provided.
