America's democracy was made to practically be uncorruptable- three different branches of government, one of them having two separate branches that each have lots of people and representatives. What happened is that we just assumed that since it was so hard to corrupt, it wouldn't be corrupted. Then all of the super rich came into being, people with enough money to buy the world and then ship it to mars and back, and with that much money it barely made a dent in their pocket to buy ou the hundreds of people who work in government.
So would you say the government was most corrupt from 2009 to 2010, when one party ruled over all 3 of the law making portions of government? [editline]15th July 2011[/editline]
Tax's pay for shit. I vouch for raising the taxes on the top 5% of the rich, and start issuing tariffs on companies that outsource. Honestly. We are about to default on our debt; politicians have to stop lobbying and start doing their job like we elected them to do so. :911:
Taxes could definitely stand to be hiked. But, at the same time, the government is spending way beyond it's means on pet projects for the politician's pocket. The out of control spending needs to be reigned in as well to gain the trust of the people back.
Unfortunately, that majority of Americans aren't the ones with the money to lobby for their interests.
Hey genius, the majority of Americans are the ones with the power to elect those who will cater to their interests. Don't blame the system because the people are fucking idiots.
In all honesty I hope for riots and anarchy in this country because it'd get more done then the mother fuckers who just sit at Capitol Hill to keep their seats. Fuck this country's politics.

Fuck this country's politics.
To be honest, riots and anarchy would fuck this country over. We're more stable than you think. We don't need a rebel uprising.
It's pretty much useless because the US is more or less totally in control by rich old white men. Majority: Hey, we think that you should have more taxes or the same taxes as us. Big Business: ...Fucking proles.
To be honest, riots and anarchy would fuck this country over. We're more stable than you think. We don't need a rebel uprising.
It isn't about current stability though, it's about trying to maintain that stability for as long as possible, which I will admit the current US government has done for well over 200 years, but it now is being influenced by corruption and stupidity. We need to do away with the two party system, remove a lot of the "lifer" senators and representatives, and maybe make the Presidential elections based on majority rule instead of the fucking electoral collages we have.

It won't change until we get even more in debt and politicians start getting huge salary cuts.
Well I definitely know that won't happen.
It might.
boy did i wish i was born somewhere other than america(of course i would exclude any dictorial countires,3rd world countires,or any country that requires more work to live there than it does here, thus meaning i would be born in a black spawn pit of darkness, being nowhere) Im don't follow any religion or political side(im one of those people that you might call a "synical asshole"),but I think the taxes should be raised on the rich. Why?Cause who the hell else in the world other than dictators has this much money?
Its a shame the American democracy is not functioning as well as the six nations political system it was partly based off of.
Its a shame the American democracy is not functioning as well as the six nations political system it was partly based off of.
Six Nations? I'm thinking of Iroquois for some reason.
Anyone else getting the feeling the Republicans are instinctively working against everything the democrats suggest no matter what just out of spite, being pissed since Obama was elected?
Don't raise the statutory tax rate, just close the loopholes. Source: http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=784
Anyone else getting the feeling the Republicans are instinctively working against everything the democrats suggest no matter what just out of spite, being pissed since Obama was elected?
That's why we need reform in my opinion.
Six Nations? I'm thinking of Iroquois for some reason.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Nations More or less just a different name for the same thing.
hey guys let's fix the economy but not do what you need to do to fix the economy FLAWLESS PLANNING
Exactly. And two parties can hardly represent the opinions of those 400 million.
*312 million* [editline]15th July 2011[/editline] I think that people need to step back and think of how things are now compared to how they were in the years just before the Great Depression. It's scary how similar the atmospheres are.
Financial problems has brought them down, not their political issues.
Belgium still has no government and they're all placing austerity measures in place, if their government has to do austerity measures it's more than an economic problem. Meanwhile the deadline for the debt ceiling is on August 2 and our government seems to be right on track for getting something together, slow and deliberate just as it was designed to be, all in all I think we're doing a lot better. [editline]15th July 2011[/editline]
Its a shame the American democracy is not functioning as well as the six nations political system it was partly based off of.
Really are you sure because it's still around.
Aside from the fact that popular choice means absolutely nothing, how much taxes are the rich already paying, exactly?
Aside from the fact that popular choice means absolutely nothing, how much taxes are the rich already paying, exactly?
In income taxes? Nowhere near what they used to.
In income taxes? Nowhere near what they used to.
But what is it?
I think it's around 35%
They don't need it there are PACs and what have you on every side of every issue honestly this pessimism about the American government is ridiculous and kind of out of touch with reality. Oh right because Belgium, Greece, Spain, Italy, and UK are all in so much better shape.
Think you're the one out of touch with reality here.
Bah taxes. Tax everybody and put tariffs on everything. Use the money to pay for technological and industrial development along with education and health care. Start to remove useless parts in the government and modernise and maximise efficiency.
Oh right because Belgium, Greece, Spain, Italy, and UK are all in so much better shape.
It's funny, you listed those countries but you somehow forgot America itself.
"Obama was giving his third press conference in two weeks on the debt ceiling. The Treasury says the country will run out of money and will have to default on its debts in early August unless the $14.3 trillion limit is lifted."
And here is another from Al Jazeera:
US President Barack Obama has wrapped up a fifth day of talks to strike a deficit reduction deal and clear the way for a debt limit raise in order to avoid default by the government.
Yep, America is in such better shape
Essentially what we can determine is this:
I admire your optimism that government would willingly shrink itself.
It would if there was money in it.* *But corporations actually like big government because if its in their pockets then they have shit all to worry about. Smaller governments with less power actually pose a bigger threat.

Smaller governments with less power actually pose a bigger threat.
I mean a smaller government with more power, with the power to eliminate both plutocracy and aristocracy.
