-icemaz you speedy fuck-
I think it's stupid to not allow already transitioned people into the military, but I don't see any reason why the military should be required to pay for someone's transition. It costs them upwards of $50,000 per person and during that period they're not fit to service.
This indicates it was probably Trump just coming up with it in the spur of the moment, or it's a distraction technique to pull attention away from Kushner and Manafort's hearings before the Senate Intelligence Committee about Trump-Russia this week. It wouldn't surprise me if he's doing this just because he wants to feel like he has power and can actually do things as President. He signed a whole bunch of executive orders, some of which he didn't even read, and most either don't define anything specific to be executed or were held up in court, and the Republican-dominated Congress has spent months failing to decide how badly it wants to fuck over America's health system. The government hasn't done anything for a few months except pass a bipartisan near-unanimous bill up to him that says the sanctions he took off of Russia are back on and Congress has to approve anything he tries to do to change Russia's sanctions, pretty much daring him to veto it.
I was thinking about this yesterday with the marijuana thing. There's no way he gives a shit about any of these issues but he repeatedly takes the riskiest and most backward stance possible. I wonder if he just signs anything that his cabinet shits across his desk.
The double cross that serving Trans people are going to feel victims of here is staggering. For most, it's going to be a case of 'The military said I was safe, so I trusted them and spoke up, now they're kicking me out because they fucking lied". Oh dear, you've just put another huge group of people needing medical treatment on the streets. Fuck the weak and the needy, right guys? And fuck our serving personnel while we're at it?

If you haven't been on hormones/estrogen/testosterone/whatever for an extended period of time and meet all the physical requirements with no past of suicide attempts etc. you're probably okay. But if you need medicine on a regular basis you should be disqualified, just like if you were diabetic. The middle of Afghanistan is probably the worst place to transition. The anxiety, stress, suicide attempts and depression that comes along with being trans-gendered could also be a factor in this decision.
genuine question: are people on medicine for, say, anxiety/depression/etc allowed in the military?
no
First, IAW AR 40-501, Chapter 2, 2-27: "d. Current mood disorders including, but not limited to, major depression (296.2–3), bipolar (296.4–7), affective psychoses (296.8–9), depressive not otherwise specified (311), do not meet the standard." "(1) History of mood disorders requiring outpatient care for longer than 6 months by a physician or other mentalhealth professional (V65.40), or inpatient treatment in a hospital or residential facility does not meet the standard."

no
This is a reasonable point and anyone who is Trans suffering from these disorders should be medically discharged if that is assessed as necessary and then receive all the post-separation care they were promised when they signed up. But it's still completely mad that any organisation could one year tell people they were now safe to be who they are, then a few years later kick them out for it. This will do irreparable damage to most serving people's trust in their service and government. Or at least, it certainly fucking should because it's abysmal.

I don't see why people are assuming Mattis would necessarily rebel against Trump on this, has he shown any real indication of being pro-trans rights? His moving back the enlistment date for trans soldiers makes me think he wouldn't exactly be against this like people are assuming
Okay hang on, I have one last point on this. Is this fucking utter bullshit happening again where Military personnel get their marching orders from fucking social media? I have met quite a few RAF ex aircrew and support crew who found out through Myspace or some shit that their aircraft were being scrapped on no notice back in 2008. My squadron found out we would be disbanded by an announcement by the MOD on Facebook. Please tell me Trump is not the first to break the news to Trans soldiers that they're back on DADT. Can anyone US Mil confirm whether this went through Chain of Command first or is this news? If the latter, fuck Trump all over again.
guys don't worry mad dog mattis the #1 the best the man the myth the legend will totally stop this I mean I saw some memes about him online so he must be great, right
This ruined my day. :c I've been trying to join the military for four years.

Some only need to take one medication, some dont even need tp take any (albeit after a prodcedure). For some people being transgendered does indeed come with a host of other issues, but for others they are just fine and there's nothing wrong with them (like me). I can do absolutely anything, go anywhere, do anything with zero issue. I can lose the medication if necessary as long as I get back to it at some point. This shit is such a non-issue that it makes me sick. [editline]26th July 2017[/editline] I want to puke. [editline]26th July 2017[/editline] This shit makes it real hard to be a fucking patriot.
Regardless where you stand, taking from comments I've seen in two of the locked military groups I'm in. Being trans in the military isn't not a very welcoming culture to begin with.
it doesnt matter once youre in
youre canadian you only put your life on the line for maple syrup and burly loggers :v:
Another day, another right ripped away by the fevered scrawling of a madman. How long until he goes full fuhrer and starts ordering public executions, I wonder? Now that I think about it, if he did go full nazi germany, would anyone even try to stop him? Probably not. Everyone's so placated. There's nothing that can be done by the common folk except yell angrily and hope our voices get heard.
whoa there kemosabe don't be all dramatic and shit im angru but drumpf is still a person and probably wont do any of that
Draft dodger proclaims specific minority cannot serve nation. More at 11.
