No one is being discharged for being trans(yet?). Dont ask dont tell was for gay soldiers and it was fuckin stupid. There's nothing indicating trans soldiers are going to face a similar fate to DADT. It's pure speculation from some random ass site that doesn't even come up on mediabiasfactcheck.
Speculation based on what has happened in the past on a very similar issue. Speculation that wouldn't be necessary if this was some sort of prepared statement from the President and SecDef.

WH Press Conference is live
Hopefully they give us some info about what the fuck is going on
Sorry for posting misinformation on accident, just come from a military family and always believed they were meant to defend rights.
I’ll back off, I think I’m too angry over this
Politico is saying this is to allocate funding for the Wall. What the fuck?

I can see this happening.
okay so like
where do we draw the line
Since it hasn't been drawn yet, drawing it here would be an excellent start.

That letter from the 9 year old sounds so staged or written by the parents. What kind of 9 year old already has political views to the point where they have a political themed birthday party unless the parents are really pushing/forcing them to support trump.

God forbid we ever try to generate more revenue to cover our ridiculous pet projects. Then again, folks have been saying we should cut down our military for quite a while, so maybe there will be some who agree with this mess.
Oh come the fuck on theyre glossing over it
Ok so pretty much what they are saying is. "Yeah Trump still supports Trans people but lol they are just so expensive"

This will literally actually cost the military more money than not doing it

The people who agree with this support increasing military funds. The people who disagree with this oppose increasing military funds.
The army is about being a cohesive unit. Brothers in arms and all that stuff. To succeed you need to absolutely trust your team. You need to look at a fellow soldier and completely trust your life in their hands and vice versa.
If a transphobe is in your team can you trust them. Can you do a mission and truly know they will watch your back? On the flip side would that change some ones opinion? Going to war with a trans person truly seeing they are just like you. Have fears and bravery and will stand by you if you stand by them? Would that change some soldiers outlooks? Maybe. There is so many questions it is hard to know. I don't even feel this debate is Right vs Left there are a lot of variables to understand.
As someone who believes in humans rights to freedom I think they should be allowed to freely work any job as any other person could. If they can pass the tests and the bootcamp then why not. It's just what would happen when they are in the army. As Alexia said they are a proper conservative bible bashing army.
Another question would be, how many Trans people would want to join? Aren't the LGBTQ+ society usually anti military? I could be wrong since I'm an outsider looking in it might actually be anti war.
The estimates for healthcare coverage for transgender soldiers is between $2.4 million and $8.4 million. Any argument that this is a cost issue is either ignorant, or purposeful misdirection.

You could say the same about racists.

thanks for serving your country tranny heres a discharge for being you
Edit: not dishonorable
I'm wondering how they calculated that because if you go through the maths like so:
For those six years, it cost about $185 million to recruit and train replacement troops and $7.7 million in administrative costs. Each individual separation cost $52,800 on average, according to estimates by the Government Accountability Office published Thursday.

There is no official or exact figure for how many transgender people serve. But the 2016 RAND study estimated that between 1,320 and 6,630 transgender service members are in the active duty military, while between 830 and 4,160 members are in reserves duty. RAND based its study on data from previous research, and estimated midrange figures of 2,450 transgender people in active duty and 1,510 in reserves. There are about 1.2 million active duty military servicemembers overall.
(52,800) * (2450 + 1,510)
So using the midrange estimate that'll end up costing us $209,088,000 in total
Anyways the majority of the DADT cost was training, so i'm unsure if the fact that this will be administratively different matters that much when making such rough estimates.
I think they are now saying that once Trump makes a decision he doesn't need to defend it. They keep throwing out "Trump still wants to protect transgender americans" and something about Military readiness.
The takeaway from the press conference: Trump and his national security team did this unilaterally with no input from the Pentagon, informed Mattis yesterday of their decision, and currently have absolutely no plans regarding existing transgender soldiers in the military.

Change a few words in this post and its a cohesive argument about why any minority shouldnt be allowed in the military, and they all boil down to "white military men are probably racist/homophobic/transphobic/misogynist!"

And they are, Mostly, In America.
I keep hearing national security team recommendation but no mention of joint chiefs.
What a mess. Sounds like they'll just dump it on the DoD to figure out.

"How is this Trump fighting for the LGBT community?"
"I think the president has made it clear that he fights for every American"
Post-truth era, indeed.
And they are, Mostly, In America.
Mostly? Those people are a vocal minority; just an exceedingly harmful one.
Something smells off about this. It seems cartoonishly harsh and out of left field, and considering the recent ACA defeat, it feels like a distraction more than anything else. Rule up the left and right to fight one another and be focused on this for the 10 minute attention span of the US voter, and in the meantime find some friends and ways to build up defenses to the investigation.
Exactly how I feel. It's totally out of the blue, totally unnecessary and the only motive I can see is trying to shift outrage from Russia and healthcare to LGBT issues.

whilst also pleasing his big russian daddy, since Putin isn't much for LGBT types either
Being transgender isnt a mental illness nor does it significantly impair you if treated lroperly.

I want to point out that it is a mental disorder, it's gender dysphoria.
But disorder != disease and disorder != bad
Just in case someone didn't know that.
Yea, i don't have an issue with this at all. Huckabee summed it up nicely in the first Republican Primary Debate last year:
How do you feel about Truman desegregating the military, just asking

I shit you not, today is actually the 69th anniversary of Truman signing the executive order to desegregate the military.
