Tiger Woods announced that he is taking "an indefinite break" from professional golf, according to a statement posted on his Web site Friday.
"I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children," the statement says. "I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try."
The 33-year-old golfer, who tops the sport's world rankings, has been mired in controversy since he crashed his car outside his Florida mansion late last month. The crash prompted authorities to cite him for careless driving and fine him $164.
Woods was not required to talk to police about the wreck, and declined to talk with investigators on several occasions.
In the week following the crash, Woods apologized for "transgressions" that let his family down, on the same day that gossip magazine US Weekly published a report alleging that Woods, who is married to Elin Nordegren, had an affair with a 24-year-old cocktail waitress named Jaimee Grubbs.
US Weekly's report followed a National Enquirer article before the crash that the athlete was having an affair with a New York nightclub hostess -- an assertion the hostess vigorously denied, according to The New York Post. See the statement on Woods' Web site
It was not immediately clear how Woods' apparent hiatus would affect his sponsorships, which include Nike, Gillette, Gatorade and Electronic Arts.
After initial allegations of extramarital affairs and Woods' earlier admission of undisclosed "transgressions," his sponsors pledged their support and opted to retain the golfer as their spokesman.

It's a shame he's been putt into this situation.
But I guess he brought this on himself.
Just leave the damn guy alone. Since when did it become ok for everyone to dive into his personal life? If he doesn't want to talk about it let him be.

He did kinda bring it on himself by keeping quiet...but again, what right do we have to know everything the guy does?
A little birdie told me that this could be something to do with all those affairs.
It must suck to live your life in a glass house, can you imagine how terrible it would be to have everyone pointing a camera at your life?
Just leave him alone. A man of that caliber needs to go to the driving range quite often. :smug:
That's the only golf word I know by the way.
Tiger Woods is black.

I agree, plenty of wood to go around.
Just leave the damn guy alone. Since when did it become ok for everyone to dive into his personal life?
Since he became a celebrity/professional athlete.

Yeah the media really fucked his life up. It really pisses me off, like... a lot.
Tiger Woods is black.
So?
I agree, plenty of wood to go around.
Oh Tiger!
I'll admit his behavior hasn't been up to par from a role model, but if I had to hazard a guess, it looks like he's wedged himself into quite the situation, and he's afraid he'll drive his loved ones away. I just hope he can iron out all his problems. I can understand why some people are really teed off by his behavior, but he's still just a human, and it takes a lot of balls to admit your mistakes.

You forgot wood. :downs:
He should do something about his family problems.
golf clubs
Looks like he fucked up on the driving range.
I guess this wood be a problem.
I guess he got wood too many times around those cheap floozies he slept with.
It's a shame that his personal life has had to intrude into his professional life. Now we lose a good golfer because the media loves to start a frenzy.

Yeah that's what pissed me off. The media, and the late shows are all making fun of him and blowing it out of proportion. It's sickening.
Yeah that's what pissed me off. The media, and the late shows are all making fun of him and blowing it out of proportion. It's sickening.
I find the actual news to be worse. Late shows are just poking fun at him as they do with everyone else, but the news shows keep trying to merge his professional life with his personal one. They keep bringing him up in relation to morals and all that shit. That, I feel, is what drives a person crazy.
No one is even going to be able to take him seriously after all the news coverage.
No one is even going to be able to take him seriously after all the news coverage.
Yup. News sucks.
I know Tiger Woods doesn't want to spread fame and all but the media and his reaction are doing just that.
Yeah the media really fucked his life up. It really pisses me off, like... a lot.
I'm glad someone actually see's this. No matter if he keeps playing golf, his life is scarred from this.
Also, I actually watch golf, so this sucks beyond measure. I seriously want to slit the throats of the paparazzi now, god dammit. Welp, back to cheering on Stricker I guess.
We should honor this great man who served in the Golf War.
See what I did there?

Paparazzi suck ass. They should be shot.

I would think it's even worse if you're a golfer in a glass house.

It isn't their fault they can make money selling shit like this to so many people who worship celebrities as gods.
Tiger Woods is like Magic Johnson. I don't care that Magic got HIV, he'll always be a great basketball player.
