Instead, someone set up a phony but official-looking Twitter account in the name of Mayor Jim Ardis and proceeded to tweet about drugs, sexual exploits and even crack-smoking Rob Ford, the disgraced Toronto mayor who's seeking reelection. Although Twitter suspended the account, the fraud was reported to the Peoria Police Department, which launched an investigation because the account impersonated a public official, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail, Police Lt. Willie King Jr. told The Times on Thursday. As part of their probe, investigators executed a search warrant at a local home earlier this week. Five people were questioned in connection to the scandalous tweets, the Peoria Journal Star reported. Several electronic devices were seized. The raid yielded one arrest — for marijuana possession. Troll twitter accounts are serious business.
Jeez, it was just a bit of a joke, nothing really serious, learn to differentiate jokes and actual malicious behavior instead of policing every single stinking thing.
Nevermind, didn't read the article correctly.
The raid yielded one arrest — for marijuana possession.
Hahahha
Peoria has a huge chunk of river front area that has been abandoned to nature. They're finally going to tear down and rebuild though. http://m.pjstar.com Richard Pryor is from Peoria [editline]19th April 2014[/editline] It's a safe town...If you're 6'5" and 230lbs. Then you can walk anywhere. I should call my old roomies, if they're not part of the drama somehow [editline]19th April 2014[/editline] It's a safe town...If you're 6'5" and 230lbs. Then you can walk anywhere. Doesn't this technically kinda violate the first amendment?
It seems that 9/11 was, after all, one of the most successful terrorist attacks in history. Both short-term and long-term.
It seems that 9/11 was, after all, one of the most successful terrorist attacks in history. The same one that was meant to get America to leave the Middle East and stop supporting Isreal? You sure you know what you're talking about?
Are you guys even talking about the same thread as the rest of us?
Are you guys even talking about the same thread as the rest of us?
I accidentally rated you... just.. yea. That possession thing is funny though. I kinda expected him to get in trouble impersonating a mayor even though it's clearly a humorous joke.
It seems that 9/11 was, after all, one of the most successful terrorist attacks in history. Both short-term and long-term.
wow so deep! no.

It's got more to do with the fact that the terrorist act radically shifted US foreign policies and domestic ones as well. Spawning suspicion that is bordering on paranoia, aggressiveness towards non-Americans, discrimination based on ethnic background, censorship, etc. Effectively transforming the US into a very fearful state. That is terrorism by definition, which is why it was very successful.
It seems that 9/11 was, after all, one of the most successful terrorist attacks in history. Both short-term and long-term.
How is this relevant
It seems that 9/11 was, after all, one of the most successful terrorist attacks in history. Both short-term and long-term.
Ok now you're just grasping for straws to just smack America with aren't you? :v:
It seems that 9/11 was, after all, one of the most successful terrorist attacks in history. Both short-term and long-term.
Other than this statement being overused, nonsensical, and plain idiotic, it has absolutely nothing to do with the thread at all. Congratulations, you won. You won absolutely nothing.
What the fuck guys

"gee it sucks that america is more involved in middle eastern affairs than ever before but at least their citizens have to wait longer at the airport we showed them" "also I heard a mayor in Peoria, some city I've never heard of and don't give a shit about, raided some homes. this is definitely going to help us establish a theocracy"
The fuck is with this thread. One second its about a mayor, then al Qaeda.
The fuck is with this thread. One second its about a mayor, then al Qaeda.
well if the illuminati hadn't butted in this never would of happened
I can't wait til my generation (late 80s-early 90s) and younger become the leaders of this world. Once that happens, we might actually have just punishments for "cybercrime" and not knee-jerk reactions like this. Creating a fake Twitter account is not exactly on the same level as actually impersonating a public figure. There's a huge, albeit subjective difference between the two. Punishing online criminal activity (though it's a stretch to say this qualifies as such) is in its infancy and I've yet to see a just ruling over a case that involves the internet.
I live right next to Peoria and heard nothing about this :v: Either way, Mayors in Central Illinois aren't shining examples of politicians. Multiple mayors of my town Pekin have been ejected from office for gambling using city funds.
