crackwhores are more interesting than something that will affect everyones lives in three days most fbers profiles have something like Political Views: i dont give af politics r dumb
To be fair, though, that's pretty spot on. One thing I wish human society could rid of is politics because politics always gets in the way of what needs to be done. Too bad that will never happen...
I don't think August 15 is really a concern though, I mean there's no way they will keep this up for more than a few days if default actually happens, the Democrats will be pretty much forced to accept Boehner's plan if it comes to that.
politics are necessary for people to get what they want, otherwise, the guys with the biggest guns and armor will call the shots and then you have a totalitarianistic dictatorship
We need some augmented vision up in this shit government.

People need to get their voice heard, and need to be represented in society. It becomes a problem though, when people put their party in front of the people that represent them.
i'd much rather they not accept the plan i'd rather be dead than be under republican rule
I'm sorry, Democrats tend to reason things. The fact is, if they do nothing, more people will be hurt than with Boehner's shit plan.
I don't see how any American will ever vote Republican if they allow the economy to default.
If they do that the country is fucked anyways. Why can't they do something to get rid of the Republicans? They are committing treason against the country so obviously
Because at least 3/10th of the country support the crazed bastards. So unless you want to start a civil war we're not doing anything.
Without politics and politicians, there is no government, at least not in America.
I understand they're a necessary evil, hence why I said "Too bad that will never happen," but sometimes I wish politics didn't have to be such a brick wall when things need to get done and get done fast. Like this. We need a solution to the debt problem, yet both parties (mostly, if not almost always, the Republicans) are more interested in bashing each other then trying to compromise. Compromise is a corner stone of democracy, and if neither side compromises (yet again, Republicans), then the democracy fails as a whole. That's why I'm sick of politics.
they aren't evil, it's the currupt bastards, and by extension, the corporations, that control them good places like sweden and norway and shit have a good political structure where everyone has freedom and shit
Scandinavia is chill.
Fuck, I have this stuck in my head
Fuck, I have this stuck in my head
Well, that is the situation.
"It would be the end of the world as we know it."
But I feel fine.
You are now posting in the Pink Floyd Megathread [editline]31st July 2011[/editline]
But I feel fine.
No, damn it! R.E.M. Megathread is that way -->
Global credit flows underpin global capitalism. Without them, countries would re-erect protectionist barriers and globalisation would come to a crashing halt. Asset prices would tumble, prices for core goods would rise and the world would become a lot smaller. Almost without exception, for the average person it would mean a massive destruction of wealth and a severe reduction in living standards.
Basically, if the US doesn't pass some sort of negotiation by August 15th, the global culture we know and love is probably going to come to a halt too.
I understand they're a necessary evil, hence why I said "Too bad that will never happen," but sometimes I wish politics didn't have to be such a brick wall when things need to get done and get done fast. That's why I'm sick of politics.
That isn't so much a problem with politics as the political climate, which is very hostile to either sides compromising because neither side can understand each other. The fact that you have members of the Tea Party calling for the execution of gay men and women and Democrats yearning for the destruction of the Republican party just goes to show that.
Afraid I'm gonna have to differ from the trend and go with "appropriately sad songs":
ITT: Post music that can relate to the debt ceiling crisis. Ninja'ed! :ninja:
they aren't evil, it's the currupt bastards, and by extension, the corporations, that control them good places like sweden and norway and shit have a good political structure where everyone has freedom and shit
I doubt Sweden is as good as people claim it is.

Devaluing human rights? Playing with fire by being political and corporate puppets? And no, i'm not supporting one party systems, just get rid of the corruptest of them, and start with new parties, more than 2 please.

What's the best case scenario at this point?
This song will become the new theme music of Fox News if the US defaults or the Boehner plan is passed
What's the best case scenario at this point?
China magically likes us.
What's the best case scenario at this point?
Repubs have a change of heart, or democrats vote for an insane far right bill.
Everyone should read this Telegraph article on the consequences of default http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/8659658/What-happens-if-the-US-defaults.html It postulates that the full consequences may not be felt until August 15, when US debt interest payments are due, but that, if we reach that date and the debt ceiling has not been raised, "It would be the end of the world as we know it."
So basically there's a good chance that the world will be in an apocalyptic situation should the US not raise the debt ceiling by the 15th? Is that somewhat legitimate or is it sensationalist and scare tacticky? Because saying the world as we know it would end is kind of a big deal.
What's the best case scenario at this point?
Absolutely? The House passes the Reid plan immediately. Realistically? There are some last-minute amendments to one of the plans which convince the other party to back it, and it's passed in time for Tuesday.
That isn't so much a problem with politics as the political climate, which is very hostile to either sides compromising because neither side can understand each other. The fact that you have members of the Tea Party calling for the execution of gay men and women and Democrats yearning for the destruction of the Republican party just goes to show that.
Do not try and play the card of "republicans and democrats are just as stubborn!! you cant blame one!", because it just isn't true. Democrats don't like the Republicans, and if they "yearn for their destruction", that hasn't stopped them from compromising.
In all seriousness, what are the odds of this happening? And what will actually happen? I know it will apparently be "the end of the world as we know it", but how? What does that mean exactly?
