Now that I think of it, I've neglected our Asian neighbors, Japan and South Korea, they're the ones that will be the most fucked from this due to how much the U.S has invested into both.
I'd be really worried about South Korea seeing as if the US takes a downward swing in it's economy the majority of our resources and troops will have to pull out leaving the north to do whatever they want.
And it's not like the US would be able to go to war in South Korea's defense if something did happen.

The worrying thing is... I see no talks, no talks at all, that if we default, we'll pull out of Afghanistan.
Do not try and play the card of "republicans and democrats are just as stubborn!! you cant blame one!", because it just isn't true. Democrats don't like the Republicans, and if they "yearn for their destruction", that hasn't stopped them from compromising.
I'm not saying that both sides are equally stubborn, and I'm not about to say that in this particular issue the Democrats have been stubborn - they've been more than willing to compromise - but as a whole in this political climate both sides aren't willing to walk in the other side's shoes.

I agree, why is that not part of the negotiations at all?
I mean, the war in Afghanistan and Iraq (yes, we still have troops there for those who think we don't)
are a massive drain on our finances.

When the others side's shoes involve cutting spending an unthinkable amount and depriving those who need it most of essential services, I can understand the sentiment that they wouldn't want to walk in those shoes.

Clearly proving that we're better than them is far more important than the cost.
I get the feeling everyone is fucked

The fact that you think it's insane to try to understand where another person is coming from just proves it.
Just because it sounds insane to you doesn't mean you shouldn't make an active effort to understand why they feel that way. It's more important to at least get a glimpse of why they feel that way, so at the very least you can find ways to convince them that thinking like that is NOT okay; instead of just saying "Well, fuck, they're dumb; fuck them."
It's mainly because Red Scare as to why Republicans are bad shit as they are. So in the end, COMMUNISM DESTROYED US!

Most Tea Party people aren't open to that kind of discussion. They've made it clear in the House that they're unwilling to budge on anything.
Someone is going to give in. We wont be fucked I don't think but times will probably get a little harder. I am keeping myself informed but I'm not to scared.
So, are we going into another depression if things don't work out? I've got a few of my peers telling me that things will be fine and nothing will happen, and another group of peers basically saying that they'll prepare for the worst and stock up on things.
I dunno who to agree with and I dunno how this will affect us.
I can easily see Texas leaving, they're basically their own country, they could easily become self-staining.
By that logic alone the NCR should be formed.

Listen to the Tea Parties, and republicans. They don't WANT to discuss, they simply want their way. There is no debate, it's their way or the highway.

Things wont die, instantly, but they will gradually decline unless we figure out how to get out of this.

It depends on if things are sorted out and there's a compromise reached. If the debt ceiling isn't raised by the 2nd start preparing for the worst.
I can see the democrats just giving in and giving the republicans everything they want. What would leave everyone worse off? Republicans getting everything they want or the global economy collapsing?
Republican plan is worse because it sets them up in a good position to get a 2012 candidate elected. I don't know which is worse, Republican government with Tea Party elements for 4 years, or another Great Depression.

That's what I told my dad, I said that things will go downhill into another depression and he said we'll be fine.
What should I, a seventeen year old teenager, do?
I'm going to lay down what I think will happen right now so that I can see how close I was in a few days' time.
With GOP leadership struggling to convince the House to pass their own bill, and the Reid plan apparently facing a filibuster in the Senate, it seems to me impossible that that plan is going to get anywhere near the President's desk, considering that even if Boehner came out and fully endorsed it, it still probably wouldn't pass the House.
But with the overwhelming Democratic rejection of the Boehner plan, and with Obama saying that even if the Senate passes it he will veto it, it seems equally unthinkable that that plan will make it either, at least in time to avoid default; after the first cheques bounce I think the Democrats will be quicker to rethink their position than the Republicans.
The only way I can see a plan being passed before default is if a new compromise plan is brought up through cross-party negotiations. The problem with this is that the House only just accepted the Boehner plan, so any compromise would have to lean very strongly in that plan's direction, to the point of being almost exactly the same as it. However, even if it is basically identical to the Boehner plan, the Democrats would obviously rather pass it off as a new "compromise plan" than just publicly cave in and accept the Boehner plan.
So that is the only way I can see a deal being made before default: The parties come out with a compromise, but in reality it will have to give the Republicans everything they want.
Edit: Of course there is stuff about how the Democrats are supposedly weaker than the Republicans so you can say they would lose out anyway, but I'm just saying that even if the GOP leadership said "okay Dems, you win, we'll accept your plan" they physically couldn't rally their own House to pass the bill.

Well being that my father is a state employed worker, he's taking this much more adversely than yours.
Especially since:

As for advice, if you're planning on going to college make sure you've signed on with a flat tuition rate, and joining the military is a no go now.

I don't think there's much you can do. If we default on the 2nd start making a survival kit and buying supplies if you have a car. Short of trying to be as best prepared as you can there's not much anyone can do about this.
I mean if you really want to be crazy change all your money into gold bars, dig yourself a bunker in your backyard and make yourself a bug out bag.

The 10th and 15th are more important dates in the "end of the world" kind of scenario here.
I can see the democrats just giving in and giving the republicans everything they want. What would leave everyone worse off? Republicans getting everything they want or the global economy collapsing?
Both are really bad. If the democrats don't give in, both sides would be blamed but republicans would be blamed more. However we would have a terrible situation on our hands. If the democrats do give in, then the republicans will have learned nothing. Except they can toy with us and get whatever they want. At least that's what I've been able to put together.
It's a shitty spot to be in.

If the democrats support the plan they don't need many of the republicans in the house to support it.

I know but whether or not we reach a consensus by the 2nd is a good warning sign on how things will be come the 15th.

I have a pocket knife so that's good for weaponry. We have a medikit in our kitchen for god-knows-what reason. I cannot drive yet but if things get really bad, fuck it. You have to disobey the law sometimes.

oops lol
Too tired to think anymore so with that massive oversight I'm going to bed
My grandpa in all 70 years of his life has never seen the government default, said they were close at times but they pulled through. I told him "Hey, could be a first time for anything!"
He just laughed.
