Has to be voted on by the house and senate.
I feel like the Senate will pass it just fine, but the House... I'm still nervous.
Obama has given an overview of the deal $1tn will be cut over the next ten years. In addition, a bipartisan committee will be formed to look at further ways to trim the deficit, including possible tax increases or further cuts. They will report by November and their proposal will be then be "put before the entire Congress for an up-or-down vote" If "[they] don't act" (unclear whether this means if the committee doesn't report, or if their proposals are voted down), huge cuts that Obama says even the Republicans "would find objectionable" will automatically come into effect instead. Also the debt ceiling is raised presumably until 2013 as Obama said it won't be a problem "in 6 months, in 8 months, in 12 months"
I'm watching CNN, and they've brought on a few people from Congress that have already said they won't support the bill. Who knows what will happen.
They're cutting defense?
Damn, I was looking forward to the anarchy.
Odds are you'd be one of the faceless thousands who'd be beaten and mugged.
Causing the bill to not be passed at this stage, even going so far as to publicly show yourself as the one who killed it, is tantamount to political suicide. The terrifying thing though, is that a lot of the Republican freshmen didn't plan on getting re-elected in the first place.

That's awfully idiotic.
So they would willingly risk their political careers just to make sure that the bill doesn't pass? That's awfully idiotic.
Not as idiotic as risking the global economy.

The terrifying thing though, is that a lot of the Republican freshmen didn't plan on getting re-elected in the first place.
It's kind of ironic that we finally have politicians acting how they were meant to in Washington, not trying to get re-elected. But with the Tea Baggers it's such a backwards ideology that it's making things worse.
What exactly are they cutting RE defense, and how much?
Cutting defences? If that's their way of saying cutting down on the offence, Then good fucking job! Well played!
WHY DON'T WE JUST TAKE THE DEBT, AND PUSH IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!?!?

So they would willingly risk their political careers just to make sure that the bill doesn't pass? That's awfully idiotic.
They're not technically risking anything because they never intended on having a political career. They don't care if people hate them and they're un-elected, in their mind they did what they thought was right for the country.

I don't trust those assholes to do the right thing, and they're dumb enough to completely clusterfuck the economy into oblivion.
Progress, finally. Pity we have to wait till tomorrow before we get a definite answer.
Cutting defence? Surely they're cutting offence.
I hope this actually goes through.
Defense is important, but hopefully they fucking raised the taxes on the rich. If they didn't, just wow.
"That's too socialism and too good for dem nigger ghettos"
Everybody that I know is saying there's going to riots 'n shit. I call bull on that, I say everything is going to go normal except there's going to be more, "Extreme Couponing" from people trying to save money. If nothing else, say hello to another depression.

I could imagine being a republican becoming taboo if their stubbornness ends up causing it.
i'm glad they came to an agreement, but this whole thing still sets a bad precedent for politics
Uh I don't think the defence cuts are going to be anything like as big as you all seem to expect they'll be.
Uh I don't think the defence cuts are going to be anything like as big as you all seem to expect they'll be.
that's just it they'll be negatable, I know the current budget is way bigger than it needs to be, there's a surplus of cash just kind of sitting aside for nothing right now. LOTS of budgets we've already snipped in the past have been this way and Fox noise bitched and moaned and made it seem like it was terrible losses and we're gonna be sending police out in cardboard box cars by next week oh nooo
Military spending should be around 2%. Glaber where the fuck are you, you are supposed to be outraged at this.
Military spending should be around 2%.
hahahahahaha what
Military spending should be around 2%.
Wow, Sobotnik, and it seems like you used to make a lot of smart posts. What the hell happened to you?
I've seen glaber reading this thread. Why no replies glabs?
I've seen glaber reading this thread. Why no replies glabs?
Even my post didn't bring him out where the fuck is he? I mean I tried really hard how the fuck can he ignore a post like that?
Obama has given an overview of the deal $1tn will be cut over the next ten years.
So nothing has changed, then. The US Government spends something like 80 billion dollars a DAY. And that is 1 trillion dollars cut over the next 3,652 days. [editline]31st July 2011[/editline]
and FUCK YOU to every republican. I could imagine being a republican becoming taboo if their stubbornness ends up causing it.
Also thank the Democrats. This disaster could have been seen a lot farther back had they passed a budget in the past 2 years.
glaber died from learning that the gop are fucking idiots
You know shits going to hit the motherfucking fan when Glaber stops defending the Republican party. STILL WAITING HERE GLABER TOO SCARED TO COME?
