I'm still skeptical it'll get passed in the house and the senate, but holy shit it's good news. The majority of people will have no idea how close we came to having out entire country tank.
glaber: "raise taxes"
earth implodes
Glaber would only be happy if there was a 105% tax rate.
An interesting concept in a tax rate above 100%.

Really? I don't buy that. Every form of media has been saturating us for weeks about how the global economy would fall apart if the default happened. The local news was airing footage from The Road Warrior and saying "This WILL happen to us!"
The first tranche of cuts will come in at nearly $1 trillion. That includes savings of $350 billion from the Base Defense Budget, which will be trimmed based off a review of overall U.S. national security policy.
Our defense spending got cut? Holy shit
Our defense spending got cut? Holy shit
$350 billion of $663.8 billion (last year's number) cut, which as far as I can recall was entirely untouched and just burning a hole in our pockets. I'll dig back into the numbers right now and make sure it wasn't some other budget I'm thinking of
$350 billion of $663.8 billion (last year's number) cut
just in case anyone is wondering, 2012's projected spending was $1.030–$1.415 trillion
It's just getting shaved back down by only 1/3 to 1/4 of its total, to about what we've been spending apparently. Spending was projected to skyrocket in the coming years so I'm glad it's just going to be leveled off instead.

It's been clarified that if the deficit committee's recommendations aren't approved by the end of the year the automatic cuts will come half from defense and half from Medicare
You guys scared me shitless throughout the whole thread.

It isn't Sensationalist Headlines for nothing.
I can't help but know that when I meet a republican, they'll scream that this whole thing is obama's fault, and that republicans should have gotten their way.
I can't help but know that when I meet a republican, they'll scream that this whole thing is obama's fault, and that republicans should have gotten their way.
I know of at least two people who'll be throwing a shitfit about how obama is terrible and he almost caused the economy to default because he did whatever to stop the bills or something.
Dalndox more than knows who I'm talkin' 'bout
I can't help but know that when I meet a republican, they'll scream that this whole thing is obama's fault, and that republicans should have gotten their way.
They're already saying that, but some are like "I don't know what the fuck because this isn't the time for politicking."
I agree. I'm pretty conservative but if I was there I'd be basically yelling at everyone to work together. Seriously, now's not the fucking time, people, for your stupid party war.
Man. Sure does look like obama is getting older. Fast.
Any cuts done should be to defense.
Of course, but both parties will be more willing to try to get a compromise going since the Republicans don't want defense budget cuts and the Democrats don't want Medicare cuts.
Even my post didn't bring him out where the fuck is he?
I mean I tried really hard how the fuck can he ignore a post like that?
I think you gave him an aneurysm.

I still don't much care for the notion that somehow both are equally at fault, when that simply isn't the case.
Man. Sure does look like obama is getting older. Fast.
Being a president will take it's toll, especially with the shit going on now. Just look at Bush when he was elected in 2000 and when he was re-elected in 2004.
Man. Sure does look like obama is getting older. Fast.
you're trying to stop the collapse of a nation filled with millions of people
yeah, try to stay calm :v:
So, we're not all going to die?
WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN DURING SHARK WEEK

sharks hate debt
I would prefer the Platinum coin plan so I can have a good laugh.

Mr. House agrees, but make sure they're chips.
WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN DURING SHARK WEEK
suddenly everything makes sense

Yes, we must be sure to destroy incoming Red Chinese missiles.

Then you are blinded by partisan politics. This whole shitfest is because neither party was willing to do the responsible thing and curtail spending somewhere. If they'd done their damn jobs and not continued to spend well beyond their means like everybody in the country who isn't a politician has to, this would have never happened, or at least been much less dangerous.
saw this coming, but still
