Of course, but this country is a powder keg right now. I'm usually good at guessing what's going to happen but this is one time where I actually don't know how it's going to turn out. I'm honestly a bit disturbed and scared, but I'm as ready as I'll ever be for whatever happens. If we do default, I wonder how far it'll reach into services for the average American. I partially rely on SS income, as I'm stuck back at home with my mom. I'm pretty hopeful that will not be touched, there's safety nets in place so it won't be but I'm prepared for a worst-case scenario.I don't think so, the founding fathers were afraid of mob rule. I don't know, though.
You crazy ratfuck rifle humpers have been predicting the breakdown of civilization for decades. How about you go do the one man shuffle in the middle of Alaska for a year or two and realize how insane you are when nothing happens?
This sounds pretty dire. But I still don't know what a "filibuster" is.
I'll be honest with all of you... I've actually considered buying a gun because I'm scared of what comes next month. I might just be paranoid, but too me the gun is nothing more then insurance when shit hits the fan.
You. Are. Insane. Tell me, do you even know exactly what the effects of a default would be? Do you really think that the US government would be toppled by some bit of partisan crockery?

Cause the multiple outlooks of whats going on, happen too range from paranoia and Y2K insanity.
Explain it then. Cause the multiple outlooks of whats going on, happen too range from paranoia and Y2K insanity.
Explain what? That arguably the world's most powerful country isn't going to completely disintegrate to the point you have to fend off your property with firearms? I actually need to explain that to you?
Ok, I have an Idea, lets call this The Boehner Killer, make everyone call it that, so, in the history book, it will be a funny day in that class.
Explain the default. I haven't been able to find many straight answers anywhere without some bullshit regarding the two parties. I just want to know what does it mean for the average person.
Explain the default. I haven't been able to find many straight answers anywhere without some bullshit regarding the two parties. Basically we sell the country, or, at least a part into the government. Not sure if that's it.
america is gettin fucked by boner
Explain the default. I haven't been able to find many straight answers anywhere without some bullshit regarding the two parties. Oh wait, that's not right, it will cause the energy field holding Xenu to shut down, releasing a thousand years of darkness in which you will have to fend off the Plague God and his unholy armies.
Interest rates go up (mortgages, credit cards, etc.), overall state of the economy goes down, certain members of the military aren't paid, Social Security/Welfare/Medicare/Medicaid/Unemployment Insurance don't go out when they're supposed to if at all.
But now I know that it's just fighting a God of Darkness for centuries I feel much better.
At first, I was really scared I would lose my unemployment benefits. But now I know that it's just fighting a God of Darkness for centuries I feel much better.
I didn't say it would be a goddamn walk in candy land did I?
So basically alot of goverment workers not getting paid, and we'll most likely see a lot of holding on social services?
At first, I was really scared I would lose my unemployment benefits. But now I know that it's just fighting a God of Darkness for centuries I feel much better.
Oh don't worry, you'll not be receiving unemployment insurance on time. [editline]30th July 2011[/editline]
So basically alot of goverment workers not getting paid, and we'll most likely see a lot of holding on social services?
As well as interest rates going up for credit cards, mortgages, and loans.

So unless aggravated government work drones form cannibal kill teams in protest and start carving a bloody swath across the nation, I think we're good.
Not a whole lot to worry about then if your in a somewhat high middle class family?
As well as interest rates going up for credit cards, mortgages, and loans.
That's sort of a given when the economy hits the shit. [editline]30th July 2011[/editline]
Not a whole lot to worry about then if your in a somewhat high middle class family?
Except for the raving bands of dirty foreign mongrels come to steal your wealth with their communist anchor babies? Nah.
Yes. So unless aggravated government work drones form cannibal kill teams in protest and start carving a bloody swath across the nation, I think we're good.
But think what would happen if they advanced through the sewers?!? Without the Merc Hazmatt Teams the sewers will be left undefended against the threat of lizards! They could come up and attack you through your toilet you know!
Obama has the "power" to force a bill through the system, but he has decided not to use it. Rather, he wants both parties to have an agreement about the bill. Also, lawsuits against the governments.

Some truths can only be figured out on your own.

How about you go do the one man shuffle in the middle of Alaska for a year or two and realize how insane you are when nothing happens?
Maybe I like to be prepared for whatever comes along, but perhaps you should check yourself before spouting off and calling me a "crazy, ratfuck rifle humper." I'd really appreciate that because I don't fuck rats, I don't hump rifles and furthermore I'm only marginally crazy. Not only that but I'm not a fortune teller. I'm not saying this is the breakdown of civilization because I'm not crazy, but if it gets REALLY bad I'd much rather stay put and out of the way if people go insane. What's the problem with being prepared? You have car insurance, don't you? Do you gleefully plan to crash your car, because I sure as hell don't hope riots break out and people get retarded. That, speaking from a sane, rational point of view, would be very bad.
Tell me, do you even know exactly what the effects of a default would be? People riot because a certain sports team won/didn't win and REALLY you expect them to be calm about this? Your resounding faith in humanity shocks me, good sir.
Correct me if I'm wrong but if the debt ceiling doesn't raise, that doesn't automatically mean we default on our debts, correct? Wouldn't there be several weeks or even months before we were actually far enough behind on debt payments to default? If that's the case, the way it seems so far is the Republicans are attempting to delay raising the debt ceiling beyond the deadline so that in order to avoid a default after the debt ceiling doesn't get raised, the Democrats will be forced to choose between drastically cutting costs or defaulting. Is that what's going on? Sorry if this post doesn't make much sense, I'm tired as shit.
Obama issued a message about the current situation: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/43954740#43954740 Anyone from any side want to tell me he's being anything but reasonable and fair?

This sucks in my situation. My family has some debt we have to pay off and we sometimes can barely afford our bills. And to think I'd never live to see another Depression. Been nice knowing you guys. :(

Well shit. It's a little scarier when you put it like that.
WHEN the debt defaults, I lose my social security checks, and get evicted from my house ...

Did I mention she is seriously ill and no one is hiring right now? This is pretty much my end :v:
