Democrats: Please we'll give you anything, just give us a bill to raise the debt limit!!
Republicans: Okay, here you go.
Democrats: That's stupid, we vote no.
Republicans: Okay, here's another one.
Democrats: That's even dumber. Go fuck yourself.
The 'anything' they put forward is so much of a nothing even other Republicans turned it down in the Senate.

WTF, I thought you called that imperialism?
That's first world to third world, completely different.
bye guys, I love you all.
I wish the president could fucking just over power the other 2 branches in a time like this, I know it ruins the idea of equal power but this is getting desperate.
Well shit.
We're totally screwed this time aren't we. It's been nice posting with you facepunch. If shit hits the fan and we get debt'd to smithereens, I don't know if we'll still have internet access.
Time to buy some cans of food, gas, and bottled water.

Listening to this while the world goes down in smoke.
At least we'll have a part in the history books as the people who may or may not have survived the fall of the USA. :v:

Im glad I have so many canned goods saved up.
This is the part where Obama visits every citizens house and says "It's going to be okay" before smothering them with a pillow.

Republicans: We refuse anything with revenue increases!
Democrats: Well we refuse anything with cuts to SS and Medicare!
Obama: Compromise dammit!
Reid/Boehner: We'll compromise!
Boehner: I refuse to compromise anymore!
House Republicans: We refuse to compromise!
Senate Democrats: Here, WE will compromise, no revenue increases!
Republicans:... NO we changed our minds we want an amendment constitutionally!
^By the way, an amendment to the constitution takes an average of seven YEARS to fully circulate through state approval.

That would take a while I think
So I was talking to my grandfather last night, who happens to be the President of the Boston Institute for Developing Economies and a Professor of Economics Emeritus at Boston University. To sum up the conversation he says if we do end up hitting default we have about 1 week to rectify the problem otherwise we face total economic meltdown.
On the positive side the chances of passing a debt extension will be far more likely after we hit default just as when we bailed out all the banks after they failed a few years back. Even then it will take months possibly years to fix what would happen over those few days.

I did hear something similar on NPR. We have about $85 billion in the reserve, and the federal government decided that the first people that will be paid (in the way of who we owe) will be those who bought bonds. Now here's the scary part, the majority of that money? It's going to pay the INTEREST that's built up on those bonds, not even the bonds themselves, just the interest people have accrued.
can someone show how the democrats compromised on the bill for me?
i keep hearing about it but nobody ever gives an example
I hate everyone.

The last amendment to the US Constitution was ratified in 1992, 19 years ago. Technology and communiction has improved since then. Especially since it was submitted to be ratified by the states in December 1789.
We need an admin to make one of these threads a debt ceiling crisis mega-thread.
I live in Nevada and Harry Reid is a gigantic asshole.

Just in case.
