They're likely kicking Newton out of the textbooks because he's from England. Instead, they're substituting advances made by America's military.
You can't really kick Newton out of the curriculum, though. So much shit depends on Newtonian physics. No foolin'.
I live in Texas, and both of my parents attended a state-wide school meeting to try and get this to not pass along with hundreds of other parents. Obviously it was unsuccessful, but apparently it was a bunch of republican conservatives.
Fuck Texas, this is absolutely ridiculous.
Issac Newton is the biggest badass in space.

Can't we just like, sell them to Mexico or something?

If god had intended Texans to be on school-boards, he would have given them intelligence.

We should let Mexico have Texas back.

I wanted to keep it at a level the average Texans could understand.

I thought that Texans being dumb was just a stereotype, but wow. Turns out they really ARE a bunch of retarded religious fruitloops.

Bye Bye Texas, see you in Mexico.
In 2008, Texas had a gross state product of 1.3 trillion dollars, the second highest in the US. It leads the nation's live stock production, the cotton industry, goat and sheep products, and the creation of cement, crushed stone, lime, salt, sand and gravel. Their petroleum deposits makes up a fourth of our known reserves. It leads in natural gas production, wind power, and solar power. It is the headquarters of Dell, AT&T, and Perot Systems. NASA JSC is the crown jewel of their aeronautics industry, and they produce the F-16 and F-35, the country's largest fighter programs. They have more than a thousand seaports and the most airports in the country. The Texas Medical Center in Houston has the world's largest concentration of medical research and centres around cancer care, research, education and prevention. South Texas Medical Centre in Houston is sixth in clinical research.
The Union is not going to reject them just because of their education plan, and just because the state decided on this incredibly stupid idea does not make every last human who lives there a stupid, religious redneck.
Yes, throwing Newton out of the textbooks was a horrifically stupid idea, but the state has too much worth to simply be tossed away like a used napkin.
Not saying the entire state be tossed away, just the textbooks. If enough states like California reject modified Texas books and want their own, the impact of Texas being the largest buyer goes away and only Texas suffers for being stupid.

The north is mostly tertiary industry, which lasts and can't be moved to places like india for cheaper.
If push came to shove, texas is fucked.
OK, I'll accept medical advances, and maybe a little bit of chemistry, but the rest of that is just Engineering, and it's not really important to learn that at school. Maybe in a history lesson, but other than saying, "Britain has tanks, tanks break down." or "In the cold war there were nuclear bombs", it's not really that useful.

They're just showing how military technology and the like has advanced humanity.
If it wasn't for the military constantly needing to kill each other and patch themselves up in more and more fantastic ways, we would still be in the dark ages.
Damn Christians droppin' Newton.

The Renaissance buddy. Wasn't done for any war but still advanced technology and culture out of the dark ages. The absurd ammount of wars that occured in the dark ages didn't bring us out of it but some homosexual paintings and disregard for the church brought us to the modern era. You can see why they want to cover it up.
It saddens me that all those children will be taught lies.

A fair point well made.
And I just realised, How horrifyingly wrong do you think their history classes will be? :ohdear:

"Okay students, now we're going to learn about the rights we nicely afforded African Americans, and why those rights can be abused over time to get a socialist negro President from Kenya appointed by a board of affirmative action communists."
I don't know what's worse, this or Japan trying to remove WWII from their textbooks.
People are so dumb, I swear.
Dunbar you a straightup busta
Yes! Wonderful!
I go to school in Texas, and trust me, the kids here have enough problems with actual history. It really does need to be dumbed down.
And I don't see what problems you have with the right-wing bias. We need to keep liberal opinions out of the minds of our children. No one wants them to grow up conforming to the socialist president we have now.
/end of sarcasm

Y'all mad?
Makes me glad I live in Florida. All we have here is teachers who couldn't give a flying fuck about anything but the standardized test everyone has to take once a year. I didn't learn any science or history until high school because the test hits math and english so hard.

It's wishful thinking. I know that there are smart people in Texas, but unfortunately none of them seem to be running the schools.

Good idea since Clegg is actually trying to keep his word and be a good politician.
All for giving Texas back to Mexico say I.
This is surreal. It's like something from the Onion.

If they're so intelligent & important, why are the retards in charge of the educational system?
It's just going to end horribly.
Hello from Texas.
Shit is gay. That is all.
Fuck, man. America needs another revolution. Fucking ban religious fuckwits in government. At least the more secular leaders are looking out for EVERYONE's rights, rather than trying to promote their own agenda and putting their abominable cult on top.
Wow, 2 and a bit pages about Texas and no Hank Hill or propane.

"I got propane in my urethra."
Satisfied?
