You can catch the next one. :v:
I'm happy the only person in my family that is into new age bullshit is just into essential oils, even then only as a supplement.
Holy shit what? I wasn't expecting to see one of the cases I'm involved in show up here.
It also seems to be beyond misinformation by the looks of it. I mean it has it's own entry on Tony Stephan, someone who is completely irrelevant to this case, and 'dangerous supplements' known as literally just a collection of vitamins and minerals.
This is so silly, I don't know how anybody could actually let this happen.
Wacko fundies who legitimately believe in faith healing are one thing but this is like "hey your kid is literally going to die, maybe it's time to swallow your pride and give him some real drugs" "oh nooooooo we can't he'll get sick!"
Sounds like they're trying to wash off blame for their way ofgetting rid of an unwanted child

Jesus, I'm having so many anger twitches right now.
The couple is claiming that they are being unjustly persecuted, with a recent social media post from David Stephan dramatically lamenting “Will we ever be free?” before asking his followers for money. They are pleading not guilty on all charges.
Hooo boy murdering our kid was expensive. Money please??
-Snipped-. That information wasn't supposed to be public yet. Trial is still ongoing.
Whoops.
Although I'm still allowed to say David Stephan and Tony Stephan are not the same person. Tony Stephan was involved in the Truehope file which the author doesn't seem to know all that much about either. The article is so uninformed it can't even get that right.
Snip

Documents on hand. I work under the Macisaac Group of Law Firms.
This is one of our current cases and I was surprised to see it here.
The Truehope file, being the other file mentioned in the article, was significantly larger than the current one. Still haven't finished archiving everything from it's 10 year running.
That was one huge clusterfuck that's for sure. Even had BillC 36 in there.

Huh.
Well, I'll be a bit more skeptical of the official story, but no offense, I'd need to see some evidence they're not the fraudsters they certainly appear to be

When you say fraudsters are you referring to their fund raising or the so called fraudulent product that's unrelated to this case?
If the former I'm afraid the answer is very mundane and won't do much to sway you. The crown has been very effective in drawing out the length of the trial and their lawyer, Shawn Buckley, doesn't work for free.
Afraid I can't give much more than that.
Meeting them in person I can say they do certainly fit the stereo type of the anti vaxxer though so I can see why you are skeptical. They're not crazy I would say; they're just significantly less trusting after the stuff health Canada pulled a handful of years ago.

Well sure I understand the lawyer aspect of it, I'm not terribly confused there.
It's their products which they were sued by Health Canada over and won that case, though reading up on it my faith in the courts on that particular case is tested.
Anti-Vaxxers are welcome to their opinions, but when their opinions kill a child, I'm the least sympathetic person around.

Alright. Let me explain the Truehope file where the whole sued by Health Canada things comes in.
It's been a handful of years though so apologies in advance. Trial lasted 10 years but the story goes back 20.
It starts with Tony Stephan. Father or grandfather of David, I forget which. There are a lot of Stephans.
But anyway Tony's wife was diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder 1 and ended up committing suicide. One of his son also was diagnosed with the same disorder.
This led to him attempting to find a way to cure, or at least subdue the effects of, bipolar. One thing led to another and a conclusion was reached that the disorder was caused by a nutrient deficiency.
Whether or not that's actually the case I don't know nor do I care. What matters is it led to him and someone else to formulate a collection of vitamins and minerals which I think is called EMPowerplus now.
Started distributing it in his small town and some universities did some publications on it.
That's where Health Canada comes in. I honestly forget why they even went after it but natural health products were not common at the time. It all got out of hand from there.
Truehope won that trial for what it's worth.
So that's Tony Stephan. David is related to Tony but had minimal involvement in the Truehope file as far as I know.
Edit: Whoops. I'm not sure I was allowed to divulge that information on the current case yet. I'll have to check.
Edit: Nope. Still not publicly available. Afraid I'll have to snip it.

As fucking stupid as these parents are, if true, isn't the recommended age for a meningitis vaccination like 11-16?
Not that it excuses them from not getting any vaccinations ever.
Jesus Christ, meningitis is no laughing matter, it's literally an infection of the brain and has a very good chance of causing long term brain damage if you survive, but also is equally likely to cause your brain to shut down all together

And just how are we supposed to know you aren't pulling our fucking leg? What proof can you give us to show what you're saying is true?
Surely you can I dunno, sign a business card with your username and post it? No offense but simply claiming you're some lawyer who has access to the case does not instantly convince me.

legally speaking he may not be allowed to disclose all that
when this is all over, he better post new updated news articles for what happened

I dunno shit about law but isn't he at least able to verify his identity?
Anyone can claim to be anybody on the internet is all I'm saying.
Just when I thought I've seen it all, humanity goes and surprises me with the epitome of stupidity called anti-vaxxers.

I'm not a lawyer. I just work under one involved.
I also got told a little after posting that I am not to comment on the article. It's retroactive.

Hey, eating cheers me up, doctors should really prescribe 2L tubs of cookie dough ice cream
That poor kid never stood a chance, with parents like those. We can only hope they lose custody of their other children.

The kid already had meningitis, the parents refused medical treatment and antibiotics.
edit : ops a bit late.

I understand you're joking, but for the sake of discussion: they probably aren't prescribing that though. It's not gonna be stuff good for the soul. It's probably shit like maple syrup (probably for those actually really harmful detox cleanses your body doesn't need and should ever get ever) garnished with cayenne pepper and other garbage. That's not exclusive to Canada - people here in the United States do that. Oh, and don't forget the other holistic stuff either. Peppers will cure cancer!
You should be eating peppers and other hot foods because you love yourself and want to be a strong, hardcore man like me and my brother. You should be eating ghost peppers raw and jumping out of planes for the fun of it like my brother, not to perform a magic trick with your tumors.
