I didn't care that much about the enhanced AoE,I didn't mind the non-enhanced edition. I didn't care that much about the enhanced AoM,I never actually played it. But an enhanced edition of one of my favorite games ever? Sign me in
Is this like Age of Empires 2?
Is this like Age of Empires 2?
Not really, it's nearly completely different and more diverse in nearly every way. It's still great fun though. I never got the chance to play online, so this is something to look forward to.
Is this like Age of Empires 2?
It's like AoE except with guns and nukes and no walls
Fuckin' yes. It's everything I ever wanted.
so since I haven't played either game in so long, can someone explain to me how different this is from EE? I know they aren't THAT similar, but I do know they're pretty close.
Well, if anything, the game is slightly more similar to EE 2, due to the territory control thingy and some other things, but they're still really different, and RoN and EE 1 even more. The only thing that's similar is the main idea of evolving your nation throughout different ages but that's it really, i can't think of any other similarity that's not in every other RTS game ever.
Will definitely have to buy this when it's released, use to play it all the time when I was younger with my dad.
this is one of the games I never played. I heard about it, i wanted it, but I never could get it as a kid. Is it worth getting this in a few weeks or whatever?
yes it's definitely worth it if you like classic rts [editline]31st May 2014[/editline]
Is this like Age of Empires 2?
it's similar in the way that you choose a civilization, each with their own special abilities, and can upgrade a lot of technologies through a library (and ages too, going from pre classical era to modern/postmodern). besides that, it's not really like aoe at all. ill name a few differences ontop of my head: 1. units are build in small packs of usually 3 soldiers - exceptions are artillery and cavalry. 2. like someone pointed out earlier, no walls and you can make nukes and units with guns. you can however, make fortresses. 3. resources are infinite. everything from food, wood, metal, oil and knowledge (knowledge is gathered in libraries by scholars, and is used to upgrade technologies) is infinite. this may be a bad or good thing, but i feel the way this game is designed it's a very good thing. 4. civilizations have more than one unique units, usually 3 or so. 5. the game has a border system, borders expand from building cities (which you can only build inside your border), building smaller buildings near your borders (temples increases your border range) and also by destroying another players town there's a small timer and when that timer goes down that city will be yours and thus your border will also increase. the border system is very interesting because it limits where you can build resource buildings and also in certain game modes (diplomacy, i think its called) your units will take damage outside of your borders (attrition) unless you carry supply wagons with you.
You can still download the trial addition (worked for me with windows 7) and play skirmish type battles (and one campaign I think). It's a lot of fun. Unfortunately you can't use the scenario editor (ever wondered who would win, 30 marines or 300 spartans?), but you can still try the basic gameplay.
Is this like Age of Empires 2?
rise of nations is more like a 4x game meets an rts, especially in conquer the world mode
