This doesn't teach kids good life lessons. Contributing to the killing of a large mammal is an extremely distressing experience for someone who has never done it before. To ask a child to do this is not giving them a balanced view on eating animals. This is quite disgusting in my opinion. Though I'm sure almost everyone on FP will probably disagree with me because I care about another living thing.
X1 Disagree.

Why the fuck did the children vote to kill it?
Far too many people being overly sensitive to pointless issues in this thread. This is a life experience, and one that any children brought up in a country (rather than city) environment are already being exposed to. Children brought up, say, on a farm will be quite aware of what happens to livestock - why should children in cities remain oblivious? Why are people trying to attack the way this is run, when this is exactly how things work in the real world? This isn't 'protecting' the sensibilities of children, this is growing them up ignorant.
Yes, and if they are actually teaching someone how to keep a farm, why the fuck would you kill your limited resources off for meat instead of utilizing a renewable resource if all you have is a few sheep. Either way you look at it the kids are stupid.
They are killing off the sheep because it will net them a much higher price than just selling the sheep's wool. That way they can afford to buy more animals. Selling the wool would get them virtually nothing compared to selling the meat.
And most wool is imported now. Wool farmers make a loss in Britain.

I'm sure he would like to help people in Africa, but since even millions of pounds worth of charity haven't helped them, something tells me he won't be able to do alot.
Eh, parents want their children to remain children and less grown up. Teachers want the children to act more adult and take responisibilites. Media is trying to make money out of a story like usual. Me? I'm eating a turkey sandwhich.
It's true, many parents just can't bear the thought of their precious kids growing up.
Many parents are stupid, as this whole fiasco proves.
I'm 15 and I remember what I got in my Sats when I was 11. 5s in all subjects, though in English reading I think I got a 4, but overall it was a 5. 100% in maths :smug:
The sheer fucking stupidity of this makes me want to punch these idiots in the face considering that it's the kids that've raised it and want to eat it.
It's true, many parents just can't bear the thought of their precious kids growing up.
Introducing children to certain things too early can have adverse effects.
Introducing children to certain things too early can have adverse effects.
Like condom jokes . . . *shudder*
Sometimes the parents are more immature than the kids. Oh the irony.
Introducing children to certain things too early can have adverse effects.
It's not like they're going to slaughter it right in front of them. The children should understand that their food doesn't just appear out of nowhere.
I feel like this is an important life lesson for the children. Sometimes, even when you give something tender love and care and watch it grow, it will still be slaughtered and eaten.
I always knew primary kids were ruthless. I mean it's realistic, I know - but seriously, I would have thought they'd want to keep it.
A bunch of them did, just not enough of them That's why it's fucked, it's not like all the kids wanted to kill the sheep The ones who didn't probably ARE traumatized lmao
A bunch of them did, just not enough of them That's why it's fucked, it's not like all the kids wanted to kill the sheep The ones who didn't probably ARE traumatized lmao
By bunch, you mean 1 right?
A bunch of them did, just not enough of them That's why it's fucked, it's not like all the kids wanted to kill the sheep The ones who didn't probably ARE traumatized lmao
Man, I didn't even think of that. That IS fucked. Imagine if they did this with high school kids and the same thing happened, there'd be a huge rift in the group after that.
By bunch, you mean 1 right?
What makes you think it was one? Edit: Oh wait it was one lol boxes please
Also what's going to traumatize a kid more; having a sheep taken away to be made into meat, which they should know happens already, or have a national newspaper call them ruthless killers, have Paul O'Grady try to tell them what they wanted to do was evil and wrong and having their parents protesting against something that they said they wanted to do?
It's not like they're going to slaughter it right in front of them. The children should understand that their food doesn't just appear out of nowhere.
It's not them knowing where food comes from that I think isn't right, I think it's the idea of giving children a life or death decision.
I hate people who get sentimental over animals that are bred only for their meat and possibly fur/wool/hide etc
I hate people who get sentimental over animals that are bred only for their meat and possibly fur/wool/hide etc
Yeah, erm sorry to break this to you, but humans didn't create animals.
It's not them knowing where food comes from that I think isn't right, I think it's the idea of giving children a life or death decision.
The school is teaching them how to run a farm, for god's sake. It's a decision farmers make. I wish my school had done cool shit like this.
