No. It's the law. If you advertise a ferrari at $1 but it's only $1 due to a printing error the customer is still within the law and IN THE RIGHT to pay $1 for it.

In the UK maybe.
Good. Show me the source code for the bug.

#include StdCasinoKit
a = 0;
if(a==2) {player.status = player.status.wins};
else {player.status = player.status.loses};
calc(a);
calc(a)
{
int b;
b = rand(1,2); //This should be 1,1, at current the player can win. Fix in new rev!
return b;
}
As you can see, the 'random number generator' was set to 1 out of 2, as opposed to 1. If it generates a 2, they win. It should not generate 2, thus it is a bug.
Honestly this is why I'm never going to casino's, it's all a bunch of bullshit to stem as much money as possible from you.
I came out with 900 euros from 20 in a casino in Spain :)
Man hits $55 million jackpot, offered $90 and a meal instead
Damn, I thought it said $90 as in $90 million...
Pffffff glitch? Yeah, I'd like to see the source code too.
I think even if it was a glitch casino owners should know the risk and pay up to what they owe. They already make a living fucking people over, if once in a blue moon it happens to them so be it.

In Finland at least, that would do jack shit. Law is law.
How did they settle on giving him $90 what the fuck that's a very strange amount of money to settle on.
I can only imagine that the gambler was trying to at least get something out of them.
"Come on, just give me something! I won!"
"$100."
"That's all?! Can't you give me anymore?!"
"$90."
He didn't win but the machine glitched and outputted it as a win.
Like that dude said, you get third place in the race but still get marked as first place by mistake.
How do you know he didn't win? Maybe he did win but instead of showing 2,5 million the machine showed 55 million. If the machine says he won it means he probably won, not sure about the amount though.
He should have sued.
"Fuck you, the machine says i won money, it's your machine, give me money."
They should give him the 2.5 mil jackpot.
Sounds like the software glitch is there fault. Not to mention it seems like it could be used as an excuse to not give a winner there money.
Apparantley the bug made it appear that he won, but the machine was a 5-slot machine, and he only got 4 of the 5 needed to win, but the machine said he won, so that's probably why the casino's disputing it.
Finally, I knew something was fishy going on, a casino runs on reputation, take that away, and well, shit happens.
I think a payout of 2.5 million (apparently the maximum legal payout?) is appropriate. The issue isn't so much who is responsible for the accuracy of the machines, be it manufacturer or casino, but rather what risks it poses for the consumer. If a casino can claim some declared wins are invalid, how is the "average joe" going to know whether they have truly won, or if the casino is telling the truth about any glitches. A further issue is, how do you define a glitch?
For the sake of protecting consumers from dishonest casinos, the man should be paid the winnings he was shown.
Honestly, I hope the guy gets the $55,000,000.

Casinos don't make their own slot machines, they likely don't even handle maintenance and repair for them.
And I'm sure there's some sort of government agency that inspects any machine when a casino claims it malfunctioned, they would actually need to prove it
Something like this happened here in Singapore

I don't know if he actually won, but if the machine really outputted

Yes but they have to, and most people lose more than they get anyways.

I'm pretty sure any idiot knows that's a glitch, and if they don't, what are they doing in a casino?
You may as well ask whether the average asshat would know if the dealer at the blackjack tables was cheating. Maybe not, but then get the fuck out of the casino!
The people who made the machine will be the only ones who have to pay out, just like when atm's fuck up and give away free money the people who programmed the atm have to pay the bank for the money they lost.

Actually you have to give the money back if the ATM glitches.

Never heard of that. Any source?
The funny thing is that (I think) all Austrian casinos are state-owned. :v:
Yeah, bugs aren't intentional, and it did get his hopes up only to be met with some pocket change and a big mac... but you still aren't looking at this from their perspective.
Your casino is doing grand, people in, people out, money money money.
SUddenly, a man explodes in joy saying he won the jackpot of $55 million.
Thats funny, that shouldn't have been possible. Jackpots aren't supposed to be higher than $2.5 million.
He runs around happily, and then your boss gets to tell him that his win isn't legit, there was an error that has never been seen before in their systems and its actually a false jackpot. They'd be more than happy to pay for a nice dinner and $90 (which seems like it'd be the money he spent that night, possibly gas, or the fare at the hotel he might have stayed at), but they're sorry that this has happened and they'll try to not let it happen again. And then the dude flips his shit and refuses the dinner and $90, and may have been a total ass about it, we don't know because the article doesn't say because its aimed to make the casino look like a bunch of dickbutts. He could have been a total ass about it, and the casino threw him out cause... he was a total ass about it.
You didn't read the article, did you?
Guys, 43 million euro probably came up on the screen because 2^32 = 4 294 967 296 (if the last two digits are used for cents, it makes it "nearly 43 million" It's a maximal value a 32 bit number can have, and when it turns up, it pretty much always means that something got wrong and something got divided by zero, or something reached negative value when it shouldn't have.
It's rather obvious bug in the machine, and although I am somewhat against casinos and this sort of institutions, I can't really blame them for their behavior. They quite probably aren't and never were prepared to hand out that amount of cash, and you can't really blame them for refusing to pay it.

My local Walmart has misprints all the time and usually if they can find it in time they post a notice saying that "Sorry, this was advertise as X but it's really Y." If you get the sale before that posting goes up they're obligated to selling it to you for X amount of money. It's the U.S.

They should at least pay him the $2.5 million.
Thing is that if the jackpot value went bonkers, the "win/loss" algorithm probably did, aswell, and he probably wasn't supposed to win jack shit.

Yeah, this pretty much seals it. He should have been glad for the $90 and the meal, they might have told him to fuck off.

For what?
Sue them for deception.
