• TV Land Pulls Dukes of Hazzard off the Air (Guess Why)

i'm glad that the message that we got out of a kid murdering 8 black people out of racial hatred is "the confederate flag is bad", not anything you know, actually worthwhile. i'm sure pulling the dukes of hazzard from tv will make the next cop who kills a black kid or the next employer who dumps all the black sounding named resumes into the trash think twice before doing it!! so cool that it is getting so much support from people, too, showing that we definitely actually care about the real issues and not only trying to wipe the surface grime off of a septic tank that's burst and spilling all over our yard. [editline]2nd July 2015[/editline] if you actually care about the racial issues in america you should be livid that we're just fucking around with flags. its pointless, it does nothing but make us look better, like putting makeup on a corpse
Please stop airing Hogans heroes. It has Nazi symbolism in it.
This is such an embarrassing moment in history.
State's rights over a federal government that was ignoring much of it's populace?
I feel that this "positive context" is missing a lot of context itself
Is anyone really that offended by the flag? I already figured it was more of a "oh that guy might be a racist."
No. very few people were offended by the flag, or even gave it a second thought until that church shooting. Then selective outrage began and now everyone's playing professional victim. And then white guilt is caving to it This is how I see it anyway. It's like the bullied kid who no one likes committing suicide and suddenly everyone in the school is pretending he was a special snow flake
I'm all for taking down the flag in places but this seems like a bit much, I would say contextually this isn't really the same thing
It's okay, Dukes of Hazzard isn't even that good of a show.
even if it's a shitty show, this is a pathetic and childish reason for a show to be put down I don't know if it is or isn't though so I can't say, but either way, what in the hell
Please stop airing Hogans heroes. It has Nazi symbolism in it.
it's funny and sad that people aren't also pissy about Nazi's, considering they are the biggest racists that have ever existed I bet if a neo-nazi did the shooting no one would be doing this
H-hey look it is guys we're important too we care!!! Look at us!!!! We can do it too!!!!

Everyone I've talked to has said they think the flag is dumb and that was prior to the shooting.
Well, this pisses me the fuck off. I actually really enjoyed watching that show. Again, this does nothing to solve problems in this country. Lets ban a flag, THAT WILL FIX ALL THE PROBLEMS! I mean, what the fuck is wrong with these people? This is making things worse, not better. No one actively gave a fuck about that flag before the shooting besides a few groups. We all knew racism is still an issue, but instead of tackling it, we want to ban a flag.
What's the positive context of the confederate flag?
The Southern/rural lifestyle, it's disassociated from the racist negative context.
I hope all this hub bub doesn't lead to Adult Swim pulling Squidbillies.
But we see Nazi flags on TV? why aren't we rioting over that? This seems to have gone way overboard.
But we see Nazi flags on TV? why aren't we rioting over that? This seems to have gone way overboard.
Le's be honest here. Nazi flags are overwhelmingly portrayed as symbols of hate and everything else the nazis stood for when they are shown e.g. in Hogan's Heroes (as someone else said). The Confederate flag, as portrayed in Dukes of Hazzard, is portrayed in a neutral/positive light (being on the protags' car and whatnot). And it was also clearly used in a Civil War reference - The car's name is literally General Lee. I'm not saying that Dukes of Hazzard is strictly racist because of that, but what you're presenting is a false equivalence Ed: Like if there was a German show called like "Kaisers of Häzard" where Friederich and Hans Kaiser drive their souped-up Volkswagen beetle "Der Generalfeldmarschall Rommel" with a swastika flag on the roof, the show might not be racist but the undertones would still be there
I think a lot of this has got out of hand. I mean hell Charleston South Carolina is named after King Charles II who encouraged the expansion of the slave trade. Should they rename the entire city because its named after a guy who supported slavery???
And now the owner of the original General Lee from the show is painting over the confederate flag. :suicide:
And now the owner of the original General Lee from the show is painting over the confederate flag. :suicide:
I thought this was a joke at first, but holy shit they actually are.

The flag is a part of history, as much as the Nazi flag is. Retroactive censorship is not just stupid, it's damaging to history as a whole.
The only reason this guy is doing this is for 15 mins of fame.
The only reason this guy is doing this is for 15 mins of fame.
I call for a guy to pull a Happy Gilmore and go to everyone of his professional tournaments and yell "JACKASS" right when he's about to swing on the ball.
I hope all this hub bub doesn't lead to Adult Swim pulling Squidbillies.
Adult swim? Caving to emotional backlash? Hah! You're funny. I think AS are the last people who would give a fuck about the confederate flag nonsense.
at this point why don't the US just pull a germany and ban it entirely
at this point why don't the US just pull a germany and ban it entirely
Because freedom?
Adult swim? Caving to emotional backlash? Hah! You're funny. I think AS are the last people who would give a fuck about the confederate flag nonsense.
Except they've caved to public/online pressure at least three times before.
Wow you guys really support a show with a clearly racist car? If a flag can cause a shootig, who knows what a fucking car with a flag can do
Wow you guys really support a show with a clearly racist car? If a flag can cause a shootig, who knows what a fucking car with a flag can do
A drive-by racist shooting....
It's kind of like any other symbol, it has multiple meanings depending on how it's used. If people shun it from it's positive context, then it will remain with it's negative context.
What "positive context" has the flag actually got though? "Southern pride"? "Heritage"? Neither of those were what the flag stood for in it's inception, they aren't what the flags history actually reflect. A flag flown by a group of (for lack of a better term) traitors to their country, fighting for the ability to avoid changing their laws (to stop owning other humans for one). Any "positive contexts" it has are all incredibly recent additions to the "meaning" of the flag that totally gloss over the history of it in favour of being proud of some arbitrary factors about your life. It makes a shitty monument to your family history as it hardly represents the individuals fighting under it according to the tons of people who keep claiming that Confederate fighters weren't all massive racists and were merely fighting for their towns. People removing this flag from things is a total non-issue. People are finally seeing the flag for it's actual historic context rather than the really recent "pride" context, and are deciding to not endorse such a context by removing it from things they own or disallowing the flying of it on their property. Is it the solution to the massively racist shitstain that shot that church up and his ideals? Not exactly. But it's a sign that society is changing to not accept racist ideology even in "passive" senses, and that's progress. (also for those claiming that this is "removing history" or whatever. it's not, people still know the history of the flag and will continue to know the history of the flag. people are just opting to not endorse such history by flying the fucking thing)

Please tell me how fucking removing every trace of this show is a good idea? There isn't any racism (that I remember), it's all because of a harmless fucking flag.
