Except Europe needs what's inside those pipelines and Ukraine has no right to interfere with any of that.
Europe does not need it that much, there are other sources. Even then, most of Europe doesn't actually rely on Russian gas.
Wow, way to alienate basically everyone who supports you in one glorious act of self-destruction. [editline]10th August 2014[/editline] Except Europe needs what's inside those pipelines and Ukraine has no right to interfere with any of that.
Europe will just start having the United States transport oil from the Bakkens, North East, Gulf of Mexico, and Alaska. They could also just build nuclear reactors, because you know... That'd fix their electricity problems.
You are correct. Now, riddle me this: They are losing money. Ukraine controls one of the largest sources of revenue. Do you think they are just going to sit around and leave Ukraine in control of it, ESPECIALLY when Ukraine is threatening to shut it off? They will protect that revenue stream AT ALL COSTS. You've now left Russia desperate and Ukraine is STILL unprotected. Congratulations, you've just made the situation worse.
Its a stand off, Russia can invade the Ukraine, but the Ukraine is not only going through a nationalistic upspring but a lot of troops now have more combat experience fighting in their own territory. This isn't Georgia that was sprung up from nowhere, the Ukraine is prepared and expecting an invasion, they can't beat them, but they'll do a lot more damage.
Is everybody conveniently forgetting that Putin lost a whole lot more than he won out of this ordeal? He wanted to prevent Ukraine from signing agreements with the EU. The Ukrainians preferred the EU over Russia and ousted their puppet of a leader. Putin and co threw a shitfit in Crimea and Donetsk, and while they got Crimea, Donetsk is being recaptured by the Ukrainians. what is Europe supposed to do? Go to war with Russia for a peninsula? Manufacture a rigged independence referendum in Chechenya? I would've preferred to see the EU help Ukraine a bit more with humanitarian aid or something but we already signed that agreement they wanted, which is the reason the whole revolution started. This shit isn't worth starting a war over. This shit also isn't worth handicapping our own economy when we're still reeling from 2008.
There's a crucial difference between voluntary help and work you have agreed and been paid to do.
except in this case europe is doing fuck all, so in return they get fuck all back. If i was helping supply goods to you, and some fuck comes along and pushes me around steals some of my shit and i'm left in a poor position and in need of help and you see this but don't help, then i have every right to cut your goods off because you failed to help ME out regardless if i am being payed to do so.

Hell no. They are going to destroy them to hurt Europe for not preventing it, and to hurt Russia for invading.
How about Russia turns the free oil back on, and in return Ukraine doesn't turn off Europe's pipeline :v:
