If its a full meltdown the real danger would it be melting through down to the water table wouldn't it? Because that would cause nuclear geysers of doom to erupt and spew radioactive steam everywhere.

I realise the reality of the situation would be a whole lot more horrific, however.
Is the meltdown confirmed or is it just fearmongering sensationalist bullshit? I'm about to add it in the title
Is the meltdown confirmed or is it just fearmongering sensationalist bullshit? I'm about to add it in the title

[9:54 p.m. ET, 11:54 a.m. Tokyo] A meltdown may have occurred at at least one nuclear power reactor in Japan, the country's chief cabinet secretary, Yukio Edano, said Sunday. He also said that authorities are concerned over the possibility of another meltdown at a second reactor. "We do believe that there is a possibility that meltdown has occurred. It is inside the reactor. We can't see. However, we are assuming that a meltdown has occurred," he said of the No. 1 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility. "And with reactor No. 3, we are also assuming that the possibility of a meltdown as we carry out measures." Edano's comments confirm an earlier report from an official with Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, who said, "we see the possibility of a meltdown." A meltdown is a catastrophic failure of the reactor core, with a potential for widespread radiation release. However, Toshihiro Bannai, director of the agency's international affairs office, expressed confidence that efforts to control the crisis would be successful.
Copied off CNN

yeah they keep saying multiple reports with low credibility i'd just wait for a second explosion to be reported, then you'll have your answer
I say wait until its confirmed before you change the title.
I say leave the title alone, changing it makes the thread look 101% more stupid. It's fine as it is. If those engineers can't even tell if the nuke is melting down or not, i'd say that the reactors are in no good condition at all, without monitoring equipment i'm sure those reactors are going critical. Even then, if they vent that steam, they'll fill the sky with radiation, if they don't the reactor will do that for them :geno:

If you aren't then your as dumb as bricks if you think the US nuked japan.
I don't think adding to the title will make the thread any more stupid, why not just add "possible meltdown"? As it may take some time to find out, that's appropriate at least.
I just hope you are joking. If you aren't then your as dumb as bricks if you think the US nuked japan.
What the FUCK are you talking about
I say wait until its confirmed before you change the title.
Well then why not just modify the title to 'possible partial meltdown'? That's what we're getting from the Japanese themselves at the moment. They may not be sure, but they're there on the scene right now, so their word is the best we have right now.
your as dumb as bricks if you think the US nuked japan.
it was the ILLUMINATI !!!!!11!!!!!!11one
Is the meltdown confirmed or is it just fearmongering sensationalist bullshit? I'm about to add it in the title
NHK's live stream is in a mad loop around four or five stories. I would have to double check but they said something about that when all cooling failed eariler today, the tops of the fuel was exposed to open air. If there was a partial meltdown or damage to the rods, it happened then. Soon after they started dumping seawater into the reactor and things started improving in terms of temperature and pressure. Edit: They shuffled the stories again but they say it here it is: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/13_06.html So yes, there has been a meltdown.
Is the meltdown confirmed or is it just fearmongering sensationalist bullshit? I'm about to add it in the title
Government is saying that they are going to assume there has been a meltdown.

What defines a meltdown?
What defines a meltdown?
The fuel is allowed to heat up enough that it turns into a molten state.
What defines a meltdown?
When containment fails and things starting melting towards the core of the planet i.e down the way. Does exactly as it says on the tin to be honest.
What defines a meltdown?
What Mel Gibson does after he's had a few.
So yes, there has been a meltdown.
God damn. That's damn serious. [editline]13th March 2011[/editline] The power plant is located right within a heavily populated area, right? IF it's going to be a mini-chernobyl, I don't even want to think about the results.
