Well your name has steam in it, you must be an expert in the subject.

Yeah, I once read an article on Steam from wikipedia.
And are you an expert on the subject of scorpions?
Big Pincers=Not very dangerous
Little Pincers=Don't touch

I'm an expert on Scorpios. I'm actually an Astrologist.
That doesn't look like steam at all.
It wasn't steam, it was hydrogen..
Lol the fearmongering guy on cnn goes:
"This could be the worst case scenario"
The news anchor asks him
"What do you mean by that?"
"I...UHH....WELL....UM...THE FUEL RODS....UHH...UMM.."
By the way, if you're a Scorpio, I have some advice.
Be prepared for big change in your future.
Chernobyl v2
Maybe not yet, apparently there's only a tiny amount of radiation let off so far.
It may be a stupid idea but since it's pretty much surrounded by water couldn't they just like.......flood the reactor wouldn't that help?
What exactly is that building that pops?
Anyone? Is it a Turbine building, a storage facility for Hydrogen, or the actual housing for a reactor(don't think so?)?
It may be a stupid idea but since it's pretty much surrounded by water couldn't they just like.......flood the reactor wouldn't that help?
Yes, great idea. How about you be the one to go up to the radioactive deathtrap and dump seawater on it, hmm?
It's the reactor hall, that houses the containment structure
Here's my share from my experience of visiting a similarly designed nuclear power station:
The containment structure (Practically the same design as the transport containers, as detailed:) itself is a big very thick steel cube, about half the size of an articulated lorry trailer. This thing is made to be one of the most indestructable boxes you can get: A test they once conducted involved two trains going head on at full speed, with said containment box in the middle; both trains, absolutely smashed.. containment box, slight dents, still had half the paint on it
This is the sort of thing the box is designed to keep together in, and as reports are now suggesting a steam explosion, I'd be relatively well assured it's still in once piece

The radioactive material is super heated, if you were to put water either directly on to the material, or fully initialise the cooling system when the fuel was too hot (as per what happened at Chernobyl), the energy is enough to rip apart the hydrogen and oxygen in the water and cause an explosion strong enough to release radioactive material from the containment structure; this was one of the possible scenarios of what occured today, but it appears not to be the case

Wouldn't that cause a massive amount of nuclear waste
Every channel on TV is the same channel right now, all emergency broadcast.
Actually they keep changing between it and their own news, but it's still all news, nothing else on basic TV.
Well it would be weirder if they were playing the scheduled re runs of Days of our lives

It looks like a pressure explosion which I really hope is the case.

I've seen that video, tis awesome.

I don't think anyone knows yet and that's the major cause for concern. They don't know how bad it is because they're not sure what exactly exploded.
Bear in mind, there's two other reactors that they have lost control of too in that same powerplant.
There must be a real chaos in the control room right now, one of the reactors went chernobyl and two others are giving beeping red lights all over the board.
By the way, didn't the Japanese prime minister went to visit the Nuclear power plant? Before it went boom I mean

Stop fear mongering you donkey. The reactor didn't go "chernobyl", if it did the reactor explosion would have been a LOT bigger. Chernobyl blew the concrete roof clean off and half the building was in ruin.

Flew over it with a chopper apparently.

Well this one had it's containment building completely blown to pieces hombre. Now inb4 helicopter crash, the history is pretty much repeating itself.
Chernobyl mk.2 no matter what you say, stop being such ignorant tool, you folks said that the reactor wont blow up. Say what now bro?

I think it's just for transportation though

Chernobyl mk.2 no matter what you say, no need to ignore the facts bro
The key to sounding even remotely credible is not using bro and inb4 in your educated opinions.
Now back to watching how this unfolds.

You have no idea what you're babbling about so I advise you to stop.

Dude, are you stupid? Nothing has happened to far that even hints at radiation leaking outside the reactor.
I don't think anyone knows yet and that's the major cause for concern. They don't know how bad it is because they're not sure what exactly exploded.
I believe it is indeed CONFIRMED that it was the reactor building, however officials say damage to the reactor is unlikely.

Umm, no.
Fuck.That
man, they are screwed now.
So according to what DaveP says, it seems that the reactor hall has been destroyed, but the containment structure is still operating. Good, I guess. As long as the matter won't cut through it once the full meltdown happens.
