Huge blast at Japan nuclear power plant - a partial nuclear meltdown has occured

Even when the radiation levels are 20 times bigger, it's still really small when compared to Chernobyl disaster.

I think it's just for transportation though
How would you like to have this job?
"Yeah, I think of ways to try to crack nuclear containment equipment."
Dude, are you stupid? Nothing has happened to far that even hints at radiation leaking outside the reactor.
They did release radioactive air, and I doupt that steam released in the explosion will be anything but healthy
So according to what DaveP says, it seems that the reactor hall has been destroyed, but the containment structure is still operating. Good, I guess. As long as the matter won't cut through it once the full meltdown happens.
You mean that the actual containment building is okay? I thought that was what blew up.

More than anything.
well to be fair, it quite obviously is dangerous
cars are dangerous too, what's important is if the risks outweigh the gains
It is indeed, as long as things are not planned properly. I doubt this would have happened if it was properly built to sustain earthquakes (or just not built at all if it couldn't be made to safely sustain them). It was the same with Chernobyl, human error (in that case it was the graphite tips of the control rods).
Also we don't have another reliable energy source for the moment (with our ever increasing energy consumptions wind, hydro and solar power might not be able to keep up) except fossil fuels (which are depleting and are more dangerous than nuclear energy).
You mean that the actual containment building is okay? I thought that was what blew up.
No no no, the reactor HALL blew up, it only houses the containment structure, it's apparently not THE containment structure.
Well this one had it's containment building completely blown to pieces hombre. Now inb4 helicopter crash, the history is pretty much repeating itself.
Chernobyl mk.2 no matter what you say, stop being such ignorant tool, you folks said that the reactor wont blow up. Say what now bro?
I declare you as mentally retarded and ask you to leave.
The reactor is having issues, the hydrogen coolant exploded and caused the explosion which means there will likely be no new explosions, the other two towers have been alright as far as I know.
And if this is Chernobyl v.2 then I'm the Virgin mother fucking Mary.
They did release radioactive air, and I doupt that steam released in the explosion will be anything but healthy
I wouldn't think anything coming out of a nuclear plant would be healthy, you don't hear of nuclear plants releasing fresh air and carrots every day now do you
No no no, the reactor HALL blew up, it only houses the containment structure, it's apparently not THE containment structure.
I wonder what caused the hall to blow up, seeing as everyone is shouting hydrogen and/or steam it seems a pipe must have melted and have blown up something containing a lot of the stuff.
USA lost lives on 11/9/01 and Japan has lost more lives on 10/3/11 Add both the dates together and you get 21/12/12 the day of: 'world ends'
No no no, the reactor HALL blew up, it only houses the containment structure, it's apparently not THE containment structure.
I was under the impression that this explosion was caused by the metal fatigue in the containment structure failing when they released the steam from the reactor to cool it, which would mean that the structure is gone, but the reactor is sealed.

Shouldn't you be wearing a tinfoil hat and operating magnetically-sealed basement doors right now
Shouldn't you be wearing a tinfoil hat and operating magnetically-sealed basement doors right now
I'm 1 step ahead.

The numbers don't lie. :tinfoil:
The numbers Mason, What do they mean?
Probably nothing.
The numbers Mason, What do they mean?
That's something we may or may not find out in the future.
I wonder what caused the hall to blow up, seeing as everyone is shouting hydrogen and/or steam it seems a pipe must have melted and have blown up something containing a lot of the stuff.
Hydrogen gas that accumulated in it, I think. It's kind of the same with Chernobyl, but there the whole reactor hall got set on fire and the core was exposed. However, in here the hall collapsed from the pressure blast but the core is only partially leaking.

Yeah and if you add together 105605 and 105607 you get 211212 which is 21/12/12 do you need anymore proof open your eyes people and see through the lies of the governements
usa lost li and japan has lost more lives on 10/3/11 add both the dates together and you get 21/12/12 the day of: 'world ends'
11/9/2001 + 10/3/2011 = 21/12/4012
Oh my god we'll die in 2 thousand years
Any more news on the reactor?

I had a bowel movement on 4/11/11, does that get factored in?

Holy shit, can I see your Delorean?
:fuckoff:
so im guessing that means yes
if so the philosophical ramifications have yet to be known
Analogy:
The reactor hall is like a swimming pool with a thermos flask at the bottom of it, and inside the flask there's a substance that, of its own volition, will generate more heat. The cooling systems surrounding the flask keep the internal temperature of the substance to within a safe level (as, if the insides get too hot, the pressure build up makes the thing go pop). What has happened is that the cooling systems have seemed to have suffered from a massive over-pressure due to the heat inside the flask. Earlier in the day, there was talk of releasing the pressure within the reactor hall, and there's a possibility that what happened is either that pressure release being a lot more than expected, or that the pressure build up was enough to cause a breach of the cooling systems. The over-pressure was enough to destroy the building surrounding the swimming pool, but hopefully the thermos flask is still in one piece, and hopefully there's still enough infrastructure in place to control the nuclear reaction to within a safe limit or 'shut it down' (which is a totally separate process from cooling the reactor)
The radioactivity of the steam released if it was a case of an over-pressure would be pretty trivial (of the order of magnitude of 10 or 20 times background radiation, next to the reactor core at Chernobyl was a factor of 1000000000, give or take a 0)
11/9/2001 + 10/3/2011 = 21/12/4012
Holy shit, can I see your Delorean?
Well I would but that would cause time kompression.
I can only post on the internet about the status of my shit and it's relation to retarded conspiracy theories, farewell people of the internet. Remember me as a prophet!
