The Exclusive Gap Between PS4 And Xbox One Has Become A Canyon
Bought an Xbone mainly for Rock Band, Gears, and Halo. Also had an enormous 360 digital library from when I played on 360 with Games for Gold.
I think it's been completely worth it so far. I didn't really get interested by of the exclusives on PS4 (except Ratchet and Clank and LittleBigPlanet 3), but on Xbox I have Halo, Gears of War, Forza, ReCore, Crackdown, and last-gen titles through BC, which I'm counting as an exclusive because only Xbox One can play last-gen games. Those things have justified my XBone purchase, on top of being able to play multi-plat games which I prefer to play on console (such as CoD, which is fucking awful on PC due to low player counts).
GoW, Forza, Recore are all available on PC and Crackdown isn't even out yet and that probably will be on PC too so they're not really exclusives.

Which is great. Microsoft has grown in my eyes, because they give you options. Maybe it's not great for their hardware, but it's great move as a game publisher.

Yeah, this is very true, but I put them on there because they're exclusives of XBox as a platform, what with the Play Anywhere, Cross-play on Forza and Gears, and the fact that they all use Xbox Live. I suppose this thread isn't really about the platform, but more about the console-only exclusives that you can't get on PC. If you narrow it down to that list, Xbox really just has Halo and backwards-compatibility of previous 360 exclusives that weren't multi-platform.

So yeah, if you don't care about Halo and have a decent PC, there's no reason at all to get an Xbox One right now.
sad to know that even when consoles die off Microsoft will still try to desperately strong arm you into upgrading to whatever newest version of Windows to play whatever IP they own.
That's not how consoles really work.
I guess that goes to show that non-portable consoles have very little actual purpose in this day in age other than to sell themselves using exclusives.

Exclusives and for the more casual/core gamers. Most people that i know that own a playstation or Xbox got it to play Fifa, CoD or battlefield.
My wife and I both have Xbox ones, and we're loving it. We can play games that I've bought on my account on hers at the same time so we've saved quite a bit of money.
I used to have a PC capable of gaming... But the Xbox has done a superb job of feeding my need especially with games with gold :)
Also not sure how up-to-date this is, but:
PS4: 104 exclusives
Xbox One: 34 exclusives
Exclusives as in that they are only on that console and not on PC as well.
I'm not gonna argue that the Xbone has more exclusives or whatever and I don't have a horse in the race, but considering that Microsoft is starting to release games both on Xbone as well as PC, that list is kinda bound to give a skewed picture - and it's likely to get "worse".
Here's a sad image that the OP doesn't seem to talk about, exclusives sales, aka the reason you buy that console. While I could extend it to the Top 100 games on each platform, but that would be too long. So here's the Top 25 best selling games on the PS4 and Xbox One, with the exclusives to each title bolded.

These numbers come from vgchartz, and while I can't give the promise of 100% accuracy to the numbers, it should give a rough idea.
I have both, but I mostly play the Xbox for two reasons: I find it frivolous that I have to have psplus to play online when it originally was free and I spent the better part of two years trying get my Xbox live account from my brother and his friend.

With Nioh having sold 1 million copies in just two weeks worldside, i can foresee that you could add that to the list in bold as well soonish. :pudge:

It was perhaps free but that was a move to just undermine Xbox, there was no way they could generate profit with free online services, even Nintendo does it

Wow, Gears UE sold the system more than Halo MCC? Almost hard to believe, I heard almost nothing about Gears UE when it came out, yet there was massive buzz about the MCC.

Final Fantasy XV isn't exclusive to PS4. It had a Xbone release. Gears of War Ultimate Edition isn't exclusive to Xbone either. That had a PC release. Gears of War 4 isn't either as that had a PC release.
My brother got an Xbox One for Christmas and now we're struggling to bother with it despite having Rare Replay, Gears of War 4, and Halo Master Chief Collection. More notable PS4 games and even 3DS games are grabbing our attention (like recently getting into Monster Hunter) than what we've got for the Xbone.
I actually just ordered a PS4 recently because of all these really interesting exclusives I've been wanting to try out, finally going to give Last of Us a shot now. Not to mention I bought it for pretty cheap, so why not.
Xbone has the x360 emulator and its DVR functionality which i love compared to what my tv is but after getting my PS4 I've turned off xbox gold and have been thinking about converting my xbone library to ps4, it just plays so much much better
And yet they refuse to give us PSABR2.
If I had to buy a console, I'd go with the PS4 no doubt in my mind. In my eyes the Xbox has grown this image of bro jock dudes, sport games, Kinects, and suits. PS4 feels to me to be more about gaming and games itself, and are adventurous enough to even support VR, and the games feel more varied.
Only reason I would like to have an Xbone is to turn it into a devkit and mess with DirectX, but I can do that on PC anyways.
Xbox getting not only mundane exclusives but also slowly killing the concept off is going to hurt bad in the long run, all in all
I have an xbox one that was purchased by someone in my house, and they don't really want to use it. Both of us have literally zero reasons to ever even bother with it. Looking at the Xbone store is actually pretty pathetic, ESPECIALLY when you're already a PC gamer, and that's looking at it's store.
Just from memory I already can tell that a PS4 would actually see more use if I had one, even as a PC gamer. Even the Wii U, a console that was considered a flunk, has more appeal than the xbone.
This just seems so arbitrarily biased. I had the same deal in my dorm room last year with both a PS4 and an Xbox One connected to the same TV. The PS4 sat and collected so much dust we ended up using it as a doorstop for the closet. Consoles' differences are so similar in value and function that it's negligent and boils down to user preference. If your group of friends all have an Xbox then the xbox will be a good time and vice versa with a PS4.

How is this biased?
An xbox isn't going to serve me anything, at all.
If anything I wish the xbox was better off because I like their controller more than the ps4's. I also owned two xbox 360's, and by the end of it have 30+ games still in a drawer.
[editline]24th February 2017[/editline]
Like I'm looking at once BASIC FACT, and that is that xbox's exclusives aren't as numerous or as quality as PS4's. Microsoft is also slowly making more and more games also available on PC, meaning that owning a Xbox "PC for your living room" one has less and less of a benefit.
For you it might be preference. In the grand scheme of things, they're both plastic boxes that eat discs and play games.
[editline]24th February 2017[/editline]
I'd go so far as to say XBOX/PS elitism is the most petty shit I've seen since the only thing that matters is the quality of their games. And as it stands, even the failed Wii U feels more worth a purchase than an xbox right now.
Really im only going to use my PS4 for Persona 5 once it comes out. The thing is dead to me now that I have a good PC

You do realize it's Microsofts fault companies are instating subscription fees, right?
I find it hypocritical that you would demerit PS Plus and then turn around and play on the console that made subscription fees popular.

This has to be the most moronic logic possible
so because xbox live was always overpriced its ok for it to be a paid service? But its unjustified for PS to do it because xbox did it first?
What?????

The video game console elitism has existed since the 2600, as far as I can always remember it's been a problem regardless of the consoles currently competing with each other. If you ever get the chance Google has a text board that has archives dating back to the early 80s, and you can easily replace the different console manufacturers and make posts of today.

Console elitism hit its peak in Nintendo VS Sega. Before that I doubt it was as severe as it was during the Sega VS Nint. That was some real marketed war.
Now a days its still bad but it just sort of grows more and more pathetic looking because of the fact that XBox and PS are like, the same exact thing when compared to the differences they share with PC and Nintendo consoles. But sadly xbox users still think they're better than PS users, and vice versa
It feels like the PS4 has made more advancements in general than the Xbox.
Just look at the controller! The touchpad, if you've ever used it, is a wonderful tool and can add new options to games played with it.
It also has the speaker in the controller so eg in rally motorsport games, you can have your co-pilot shout out the directions and they will come out of the controller, rather than your sound system. There's also the in-built motion sensor as well, which works really well as tilt to steer in motorsports games because you can steer much-smoother and with more precision compared to the thumbstick. Then there's the light on the back of the controller which lets you play VR games but also other games which use the PS Camera to track movement of the controller.
I find the XB1 controller slightly-more ergonomic, but it's also somewhat heavier than the DS4, and has less functionality than it does.
between nioh, yakuza 0, horizon, persona 5, and nier (although that's coming to PC as well) it feels like the PS4 is really coming into its own this year.
and almost all of those are from japanese devs, and no one there gives a fuck about the xbox
ps4 + pc is definitely the master race for core gamers this generation, the switch seems to be targeting the more casual audience and the xb1 is a wasteland
