Wait I thought denmark was for palenstine? Sure I heard something like that a while ago.
Blame Pia K & Co. for kicking up a fuzz
Because Israeli influence.
So much for the paragons of human rights.
If this is just a General Assembly vote it will pass in a landslide. All of these countries have already recognised the State of Palestine, and will vote for it Edit: I think they are going for 'non-state observer' status. In that case, it will be a GA vote. So there is no veto
Why the fuck Finland is not recognising Palestine?
Why the fuck Finland is not recognising Palestine?
Because USA supports Israel, and we suck USAs dick to maintain good relations.
If the Eastern EU supports it, and the Western EU is against it, does that just mean the EU's stance on it is neutral or up in the air? I'd be inclined to think the Western member states would make the decision, but I don't know.
The EU doesn't have a unified foreign policy. That's a power that the member states doesn't like Brussels to have. [editline]11th November 2012[/editline]
Why are all of the "First world" countries against?
US relations. Better not piss the boss.
If I were the US President I would support Palestine. I'm jewish, so I could get away with it.
watch out for Altair, Abbas, he's a loose cannon
Wait I thought denmark was for palenstine? Sure I heard something like that a while ago.
Denmark and Norway are for palestine in public support atleast, everyone keeps condemning the gaza bombings and all that.
How come most first world countries are against it?
These are just nations who have already recognized it formally. There are several more, especially European (e.g. France, Scandinavia) who have said they will vote yes at the U.N. and recognize.
Also a lot of those are NATO countries.
Cool. I really hope I see more Palestinians than there are already on the streets.
Because USA supports Israel, and we suck USAs dick to maintain good relations.
Well, there's progress.
President Tarja Halonen says that Finland could recognise the Palestinian state. Speaking at a gathering of political journalists on Thursday, President Halonen also said that she hopes that recognising Palestine might get more extensive support in the European Union. She sees “movement” in the EU on the issue. Finland recently upgraded the status of the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Finland. The head of the mission is now entitled to use the title of Ambassador, even though full official diplomatic relations have not been established between the countries. In September, Palestine applied for United Nations membership, and the processing of its application is getting started.
I'm going to have to repeat what the PM of the PNA said about bids like this to the UN are not going to change a damn thing. I admire Abbas's effort, but it seems like it's all going to be fruitless.
